Sometimes though, those pesky screws (especially Eastern-European we have here) won't willingly be screwed into their places. And then, some external "persuasion" is needed.

Some on the otherhand very hard to un-screw.
Come to think of it, that's why I love our family screwdriver. Makes live much more easy. (And hammer a final resort or a second-hand weapon).

There's a Xenosaga joke about it somewhere, regarding KOS-MOS, her armor, Chaos, Shion and a screwdriver.

I think, it goes along something like this:

Shion catches KOS-MOS and Chaos in "act". Shion gets pissed, and then notices, ekhm, KOS-MOS's lack of clothes.

*KOSMOS WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Shion yelled.
“I was happy to be of service” Kosmos automatically responded.
“Uh Hey Shion what’s g-going on”chaos said while trying to fit in his booty shorts.
“What the heck where you doing to kosmos chaos! I didn’t even know her clothes where removable! *Chaos quickly hides screwdriver*.

Maybe isn'at as awesome, but it still brightened up my day (I must be desperate )

The story of Wilhelm catching Miyuki making weapons for Shion and co. is much better though, in my opinion...

Most metals use screws (or bolts, which is technically a screw anyways) as nails would just slide out of metal. It's wood that uses mostly nails (though there can be screws there to.) Medieval goth is what you're looking for (wasn't sure if you meant that or goth as in dark and brooding.) Thing is, most of the medieval goth stuff was masonry. If the futuristic architects didn't want to use bolts or screws I guess they would have to use some weird high power drill hammer (yes that's an actual tool.)

Or perhaps that cool plasma buzz-saw from the movie Titan A.E.

CrimsomWolf

HolioArtillery

Or some weird, object binding grav-force.

I mean, it's the future right?

That might create a problem when other things come near it or touch it. Imagine leaning against the wall and then not being able to get off the wall ;o

Though I suppose if the grav-force had a small field, you could make a core structure using such a material and then coat it with another strong material that starts somewhat liquid, then hardens (like concrete) until it's thick enough the field can no longer be reached (or if you want to get technical, just looses any strong force, as even a single grain of sand generates gravity that reaches across the universe, it's just to minute to mean anything.) Then you smooth out the semi-liquid and a hardens. Perhaps some sort of liquid metal that sets itself. More than likely though, it would just be built from the ground up from said metal-concrete stuff. Your gonna need some sort of tool to shape the grav-force material anyways. You can't escape the use of tools.

CrimsomWolf
Apr 17, 2009, 04:47 PM
Use high-powered force to shape a unified blocks of materials (super-dense, resistant composites, rocks etc.) and then put them in place and bind them... maybe wield with plasma, or once again, compress with grav-field, to make all blocks compress and essentially form a uniform object.

HolioArtillery

You're not going to be able to create any sort of grav-force that just pulls shit in to make a building. The tool that generates would be likely pull itself in and destroy itself. Nor are you going to be able to do it to make blocks. Gravity doesn't work that way. Maybe some sort of energy force, but not gravity. You'd be better off just running a high electric current though metal to melt it (we do this now, check out electric arc furnaces) and then pouring it into a mold of your choosing, then building the structure with the pieces. Which is probably how Warhammer does it anyhow.

CrimsomWolf
Apr 17, 2009, 05:00 PM
Then create an elastic forcefield (which can be shaped, let's say into elements into building) an pour the semi-molten materials into the field. The whole thing cools down, forming a unified, sturdy structure.

I'll admit, the whole gravity thingy was rushed, but I'm not good at math/physics and it's already midnight here.

Also, I can swear that this imaginary girl from my mind is making a plasma scythe right next to me.

Well, assuming you can generate enough energy to create, shape to such a high degree of detail, and then hold the field long enough, while still having the generator out of harms way from the semi-molten steel, I suppose that would be fine. Though I honestly find it highly unlikely it would be the chosen method of building gothic structure.

Why would you limit yourself to every ship and city having the exact same carbon-copy in the first place? Surely you could run an architectural school to pump out fine artistic minds to think up structures of brilliant form and function.

Personally not to sure I'd want an all encompassing empire. Wth would you do at that point? I mean, if there's nothing to conquer, where's the fun at? Vidjah gaemz?
