Is anyone else having trouble connecting to the 360 server? I was on and some friends asked me if I was having any trouble connecting. They said that the connection to the server failed. I logged out to see if I could get back in and I could not. Does anyone have any information on this?

I wonder if SEGA will try to give compensation if they can not fix this problem soon? If so i hope that it is not another week of the event because that would throw us even further behind the jap. server.

DAY.WALKIN

If casts aren't robots...enlighten me to what they are.

Bio-mechanical androids. Largely synthetic in origin, but human-like in appearance and function. Hence the emotions, human-like body, and ability to process physical sensation through touch like a human would.

You asked. ^^;

On topic: This is bizarre, with even the official forums down. I wonder what happened. :-?

You know what.

When I think about it, it is like SEGA planned for this downtime, hence the extension already put in place. Maybe some hardware or software within SEGA's network is being upgraded.

Valvalion
May 17, 2009, 07:55 PM
Hmm.

Don't they usually just inform of an 'Emergency maintenance' if that's the case?

Firehouse
May 17, 2009, 07:56 PM

Mm... Interesting I woke about and couldn't get on PSU, came here and found out this. So how long this been going on? Is there certain people like myself that can't get on or is this for everone.

And from the looks of things it seem as if SEGA haven't said anything yet... but i could be wrong.

I'm not getting an error problem I just can't connect... at least that what it says.

It Looks like there may have been some sort of Power outage or something that knocked one or two of the servers off line by the looks of the official boards.

Let's just hope that they are working on it seeing the time..

Well, I was just disconnected while in my room and can't log back in, and my friend was booted from universe 7, so I'm assuming that the entire PC/PS2 server has crashed? Heh, figures.

Overlord Zenon
May 17, 2009, 09:33 PM
i'd not go yet of course the servers would go into maintence mode after going offline, they'd have to find the issue and resolve why it happened

Dragwind
May 17, 2009, 09:33 PM
The user was indeed an imposter, and pc/ps2 servers just went boom.

Triple_S
May 17, 2009, 09:34 PM
Right after Chillaura says that they are working on getting the PC/PS2 servers back up, error 071 turns into "Error 051: Could not connect to server. The server could be undergoing maintenance.", so that bit of info seems legit. Can anyone who is/was on confirm if the servers went down for maintenance?

I can confirm that the servers are most likely being worked on now. I was in Uni 10, taking a pic of the asploded Uni 1 and 2 when I was disconnected. Upon trying to sign in, 51.

May 17, 2009, 09:54 PM
That's not the way status checking works. A server status checker pings a server, and if it does not get a response within a reasonable time, it shows the server as being offline.

I don't know how SEGA runs its server status display, but I logged in about 30 minutes ago and got booted about 20 minutes ago. Whether the servers are up or not, I'm not sure, but I keep getting a time out to the patch server.

Out of boredom and no one being on, I decided I'd start chipping at story missions on my new character because I want PA fragments, partner cards, and a sense of accomplishment once I get them all done. I did up to Ep2 chapter 2 part 2. First try, I got a C on the trial, okay, do-over... Second time, I got an S on the trial, but died a nazi-BS-death on the boss. Third try, I defeat the boss, but he takes the entire universe down with him and then some. :(

Hey Everyone,

Clumsy here, I'm writing to give everyone some insight about the outage, because as you've noticed, our servers are completely offline for PSU. This is due to an air conditioner failure in our server room, which affects just about everything at SOA, including the Xbox Demo servers and the PC/PS2 and Xbox 360 servers. We are working to save our servers and get everything up and running, but will have to wait for our room to cool down and the techs to fix the AC.

As you might expect, the outage is affecting our key sites, forums, and blogs. It makes it difficult to update anyone on the reason for the outage, but thankfully PSO-World is very quick to pick up on the outage and alert everyone. Incidentally, we won't be doing our forum upgrade tonight following this issue.

At this time, I have no idea how this affects the current event and can't field any questions you may have about it. Please do spread this around so everyone is aware of the problem.

Thank you!

It's sort of like a computer (It is in a sense). If it overheats too much, it'll shut itself off to cool down. It won't, more than likely, from my own experiences with such happenings, have never lost information.

Well, in a small office I work in, my boss's office gets extremely hot, even with the AC on, and it's only got one server and one workstation in it. If they had all those servers in the one room, and their AC broke, then it doesn't surprise me in the least that they exploded. Especially seeing as how it's a Sunday, and the AC could have been broken since as early as...... I'd wager Friday night, around maybe 6 or 7 at night PST, then it was like a little temperature time-bomb waiting to go off.

I just really hope that characters were saved alright when they got shut down. I'd hate to lose all my money I just made and the Flowen's + I got yesterday.

And if there is, I wonder what they'll give us. Outside of what we're already getting as event rewards, I don't see what else they could give us. Its egotistical to demand that a freak AC accident must be somehow prepared against.

Shit happens, and it happens to everyone. It just seems to me, though, that Sega tends to have more freak accidents than average. How does the saying go... an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure. Considering how low on the totem of priorities customer support has traditionally had within Sonic Team, it seems to be a case of lost in translation and lack of funds. Considering how "Event centric" PSU has become, you'd think they'd put a bit of EXTRA effort into making sure things go smoothly even if just for a short time. Something like this happens during every event, and regardless of how long the servers have been running fine in the interim, it gives the strong impression to Event Subscribers that it's always and consistently like this... because every time they re-sub, something like this happens.

But PSU/PSO have always been a side cash generator to help fund the development of Sonic titles. Whatta ya gonna do?

Still... it'd be much more appreciative if the Phantasy Star franchise was given to a development studio which would nourish the potential the franchise has, rather than treat it like the red-headded step child.

(Maybe I've been fighting the crazies on the conspiracy websites too long, but maybe Sonic Team did plan this all along! We got an extra week of the event out of the blue... maybe they screwed up and announced the comensation extension before the "total accident". Somehow it all ties into Yuji Naka being the gunman on the Grassy Knoll who killed Kennedy, and Girl Scout funded Al-Queda/CIA terror cells. We're just not seeing the big picture. That's why Alex Jones was kicked off YouTube... because he tried to expose the plot and the "Sega Illumin(ati)us had him silenced)

Hey, an Air Conditioner failure is a freak accident, no need to utterly crucify Sonic Team as a whole.

However, since we are paying customers, we are allowed to voice concerns and expect a decent level of service.

Perhaps if this was some random free bullshit PC mmo, things would be a lot different and we would have no ground to make complaints.

I never played it, but I'd assume it's like any other Xbox game. Just log in to live, start up the game, and it should pop up saying "there is an update available for your system / this game. Would you like to download it now?" If it didn't pop up, then there's probably nothing wrong with your copy, and it's still them having problems.

What a mess. I've played Final Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft, Ragnarok Online, PSO Ep. I & II, and many other non-RPG online titles and never seen such an issue. For something so vital, why wasn't there a better backup plan implemented? Technical issues are inevitable, but there's no excuse for poor preparation. I'm surprised more people aren't upset. I wouldn't be the least bit affected by a rollback and I wasn't looking to play much yesterday, but this still bothers me.

As sad as it sounds, people expect the worst now with PSU, in regards to how Sega handle problems. It's such a frequent thing that a lot of people just accept it now :disapprove:

Anyway, I can log on fine again, and it doesn't look like I lost anything aside from one level on a Laser Cannon (only low level so it doesn't matter). According to the front page news, compensation is planned for it- I just hope it's not another week of the event. I love the event, but extending it another week would be too much

Maybe they'll give us our bonuses at the next maintenance, and have them be active for a week while the event's going on. Can you imagine what the double PA xp AND the pannon rooms will be like? Walk in with a level 1 art, walk out having to switch to a master class to get it the last 10 levels to 50.

On second thought, that might not be a good idea... maybe just give us our real hand gun+ and Moatoob idol from the PSP launch event now instead of with the kill count rewards.

We can hope for something nice, but from past experience, don't expect too much. ;]

I have been trying to go on for hours. There are no updates, no other issues, no other options, nothing. It just says that I can't connect to the server. I tried deleting and re-downloading the game (1 Gb off of my monthly limit down the drain) and it STILL doesn't work! :( Is this happening for anyone else? What can I do? Who can I talk to? I don't have much time of the weekend left, and I really want to play before I have to stop playing for two days!

Some of us complain because.... well, some of us work during the day (like me). Others work at night (and they're the ones who are probably playing now).

There was no roll back and whomever made up that false claim was slightly delusional. I have yet to see any of my gear missing and it was quite a few 50% mukpromoto's all of which was in my inventory at the time i disconnected, and was still there when i returned this morning.

Too many people have complained about missing gear, EXP, and meseta to make this a false claim. I can't imagine said players appreciate this comment. How would you feel if you were one of those with missing items?

While I'm not pleased about last night's server outage, what you're saying about FFXI and WoW (I would include PSOBB and error 906, but you neglected to mention it) is FAR from true. Yes, Blizzard's customer service might be an improvement over Sega's (I'd expect this given the substantial amount of revenue they must generate), but when I reactivated my old account in January (I've played WoW intermittently since day one), the backlog of traffic still persisting due to WotLK was causing widespread server lag, and the particular server I played on had to contend with 500+ login queues in the late afternoons/evenings, which wasn't nearly as atrocious as the issues the more populated servers were having to endure.

Then, last month, I decided to open a new alternate FFXI account in addition to retrieving my old one during the Return to Vana'diel Campaign, but the payment registration server was down for over two weeks during that time (just Google USC-60257 error), so I simply shelved my new copy since, fortunately, Shred the Darkness was about to launch.

(And I'm merely highlighting my most recent dealings with server isssues, so keep that in mind. I won't even begin to delve into the convoluted mess that engendered the chaos surrounding Star Wars Galaxies' login servers not too long ago.)

Case in point, yeah, these little tribulations we have to endure with PSU might be vexing, but other MMORPGs are not, in fact, immune to such issues either, so don't make such generalizations. Mkay?

But that isnt the problem because there was no rollback. Had there been a rollbakck alot more people would have been effected not to mention we already know SEGA doesn't back up the servers on weekends. I'm assuming the people who are complaining either never had such items or PA'exp to begin with and just wants make sega look bad. Because if this rollback did occur it would be alot more than a couple of people complaining.

The issues you laid out for WoW were due to overpopulation. You're comparing apples to oranges. I imagine Blizzard prepared for the expansion and the spike in activity as best they could. In this particular case, it appears SoA was not in the least bit prepared for AC failure. As stated, for something so vital, I'm definitely disappointed. People are still having trouble logging on, items and experience are missing, and SoA's response is underwhelming. Should we be happy with the situation? Do you feel SoA was prepared and responded as best they could? Keep in mind we are regular paying customers. They aren't doing us any favors for which they aren't compensated.

I think the rollback that people are complaining about is if they played after the mass exodus of guardians from the servers happened. If you were one of the... oh, I'll say 30 people who stayed connected and you got stuff, you kind of got the shaft. If you were one of the 50 or so who got something right before the servers went down (such as, "Hey, a Heart of Dulk! Why is no one talking? I got disconnected? Where's my Heart of Dulk now?") you probably got the shaft. If you were taking it easy before they crashed, you were pretty much alright. At least, that's the general consensus, from what I gather.
