I enjoy ED. It has a certain snark to it. And it's not afraid to troll itself.

And I think a lot of people are upset by it because a lot of it is true. And people hate being reminded of just how retarded the internet really is.

Truth always hurts, IMO.
Amen to that

I think internet is the way it is because people, when they are relatively anonymous and in big groups get what I call "monkey's mind" a.k.a attention whoring

Basically, they do sometimes very stupid things to get recognition, even negative one.
Supposedly because we're herd animals.

I bet half of us really aren't as we present ourselves here... though thoughts of me not really being into games/anime , cheerful Outrider, friendly Nitro, Talon not caring about whole fantasy/foxgirl stuff, Shin the Witchlover etc. may be rather... horrifying.

My leaning is more the inverse of that... I think people present themselves more honestly over the internet to a degree, because the anonymity frees them from normal social constraints.

Ever since my bro introduced me to Encyclopedia Dramatica I've been in love with the site.
So far my favorite entry in Encyclopedia Dramatica so far is the one about Kingdom Hearts.
Though you've be warned, it's gets pretty...disturbing once you scroll down.

Nitro just doesn't approve of ED because it rants on Runescape.

Mewnie

I don't think this argument can be solved really - people are too unpredictable and unique (in terms that each one of us is often vastly different psychologically) to make any certain conclusion.

Or it may be somewhere in between - there are people who bahave more like *their real self* over internet because for some reason they can't behave so in normal society; some on the otherhand behave differently, even if to see how it might be to be someone different.

I'll stop here, before we get on the Cretan Paradox.

I'm actually quite cheerful.

It's just that the internet brings out my RAGE.

Or it's that when people state opinions on the internet, they're more willing to state them as fact and not opinion since they don't really feel like they're speaking with another person (because of no face-to-face or voice) and are more willing to be unrealistic in their discussion.

As a result: people say Xenosaga is the best, I say it's the worst, hilarity ensues.

JUST USING THAT AS AN EXAMPLE, GUYS.

The internet is the one forum wherein even the most shut-in of individuals can not only be heard, but be both held on high and drug though a ditch of feces... by the same individuals.

It's also for trolling. Nowhere in the real world can one make another so angry as online under the guise of anonymity. And certainly not with as few of words as can be done as through online.
