lol let's just prey it's gone.

why? maybe someone out there is thinking about getting the game and isn't sure. This person tries the demo and decides to get the game, and shortly after get the expansion. We get a new member, and Sega has 10 more reasons a month to keep the game online.

You guys don't understand the concept of bringing more people to the game so that it survives, do you? :(

From what I understand, most of the people who play the demo don't actually decide to pay for the actual game.

But don't mind me, I'm a PC. :V

most people i know that have played the demo have been turned off so much they wont even think of buying the game. and this is just because of all the morons that actually do play the demo. so in a sense the demo is more of a deterrent than anything.

"Most people"...

I love that phrase coming from market researchers and people who actually spend time and money checking on every single gamertag that downloads a game to see if they actually have the game as one of their purchased games in a near or far future.

from everyone else, that phrase means jack.

I believe you need to stop taking the time to smell your own ****.

The demo made me want to play the 360 version, and its why I switched from PC to 360.

Get off your high horse and stop assuming your opinion = everyone's.

And you really shouldn't assume your opinion is greater than everyone else's. Both sides of this argument have merit, and unless we can sit down and talk with every single player from both the 360 version and the demo then we'll never know what percent of people that try the demo actually transfer over to the full.

That being said we can guess. From what I can see the demo could be taken down for two reasons. One, Microsoft is no longer wishing to support it. Two, Sonic Team is no longer wishing to support it. Since most companies operate on the premise of making a profit (no lulz about Segac needed), we can assume that either company looked at some data and found that the demo just wasn't serving its intended function.

The problem is I'm not pushing my opinion on everyone else, then bashing anyone coming in here saying the demo is a PoS. Which is what the person who had 23% of the posts in the topic (at the time I posted) was doing. I'm simply stating my opinion, that guy is stating his opinion and calling that one single guy out and making jerk comments. So, if he is gonna be a jerk about things, he obviously isn't gonna listen to reason and my only other option is to use the same tactics he does.

I don't know about most people but I got psu before I ever played the demo just cuz I wanted to see the story then tried the demo. When I played the demo most people were trying to sell stuff and porn didn't really make want to pay. Psoworld kind of got me to a little cuz I saw how much I could get.

When I visited the demo, I got several XBL messages for nude pic trading. >_> I didn't decide against the 360 version for that though because I knew such riffraff was only there because it's so accessible and free, but I was kind of shocked by that and how many people there actually were. Eh... I'm indifferent to axing it off. I don't think it has much of a negative or positive effect on the actual game, and most of the people that join now have either played before or knows someone that plays. I don't think many people join randomly enough to try the demo anymore.

We don't need to ask each person because Microsoft already does.

I don't know if those who played the demo (as some people here call them, n00bs, as if they were never noobs themselves) were annoying, or if PSU will be better without them. What I do know is that the demo system is one of the best ideas Microsoft has ever had (said so themselves a few E3's ago, and I agree) and that demos do lead to game purchases; they track what games you own based on your Gamertag even if you don't have Gold, your download history, all purchases, etc.

Why is the PSU demo down? I don't know, but demos have a great track record of leading people to buy the actual game, and without it PSU will lose yet another avenue for regular gamers to learn about our game.

To watch people celebrate that pisses me off. It is self-destructive. If more people don't play this game it will hasten its demise, and what is one billion times worse, it jeopardizes the chances of the franchise.

I already lost Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon, Skies of Arcadia... It hurts OK? I don't wanna lose another one.

No no, its coming out this Christmas in a bundle pack with Starcraft: Ghost. You guys need to get your facts straight.

And yes I do believe its down, which I think kinda sucks but don't find surprising. If Sega was actually interested in their overseas player base they might do us the kindness of creating (and sticking to) a real update schedule or take the time/money to invest IN ONE FUCKING COMMERCIAL.

No, I'm not bitter.

a lot of games don't get on TV. when PSU came out they bought IGN's front page, which really surprised me. I think they also got a lot of publicity on some RPG site... i forget the name but its like an MMO info site.

did you ever wonder why the 360 version has so much more population than the PC & PS2 combined?
of course, there are several reasons, for example that the only other "real" online RPGs on 360 are FFXI and Sacred 2, whereas PC has lots of such games..

but the demo definatelly IS a factor!

my brother started playing during the carneval event and his "player-number" says like 99900..
recently, i've seen a lot of new players around with 106000 or even 107000! this means the 360 has had an increase in players since the carneval event of like 6000 to 7000 players, which is a lot for a "dead" game!
now from where should all those people know about PSU, if not from friends who play PSU or from looking through the xbox marketplace and finding the demo?

and if you want to make your friends play PSU with you, it's never wrong to show them the demo first, because, seriously, who'd pay $10 a month for a game he doesn't even know just because his friend says the game's cool?

especially since PSU doesn't have a free month like PSO had, the demo is really needed imo..

demos are good for advertising but the people on the demo..well lets say the demo is better going offline I mean doing that will make ppl come to the paid servers if they really love the game and the population thing the server is bigger but remember that the server is shared with the japanese side as well
