Just taking the time out to introduce myself and say hello to everyone here! (Before I even get started, if I did somehow miss the correct area to do this in, please by all means move it there, and I'm sorry.)

I've played around with Phantasy Star since my early childhood, and I'm taking the time to get back in to Phantasy Star Universe now. Me and a friend of mine decided to pick it up, and we'll be playing a lot over the summer. I've played PSU once before, but I never got too high level (50 or so I believe...) so I'm still sort of a noob. ;)

For starters, my character name is going to be Fahros, and I'm going to be on the Xbox 360 servers. My gamertag is "NFS Fahros" (without the quotes of course) if anybody wants to friend me up for some PSU action. The time I played PSU before wasn't on my 360 though, so I'll be starting from scratch.

I've been out of PSU for over a year or two now, I could really use some help, if you guys don't mind at least a couple questions:

1. It seems new classes have been introduced? I want to roll Force this time around. If any of you could tell me what the highest burst damage Force archeatype class is at the moment, I'd really appreciate that, as I want to go with that. I always play the burst oriented caster in MMO's I play, so might as well do the same with PSU.

1-B. If anybody has a link to any good guides for said class mentioned in question 1...I could really get in to a guide right about now. I'm not sure what spells to get, what spells to avoid, what to level up first, etc, etc. Hell, I still need to be refreshed on what elements are strong vs what, if I remember right this game had a sort of backwards element system compared to what I'm used to.

2. I was playing the PSU demo today, and I remember being able to buy a open shop from the room decorator vendor, but in the demo it wasn't there. There's still player shops isn't there? I'd be a suicidal panda if there wasn't. Hopefully it just wasn't there because it was...the demo.

3. Speaking of player shops, how's the economy now? Back when I played you could sell photons for some decent pocket change, hah. Still the case? Harder to make money now? Easier?

4. Oh, something I'm really worried about. I played on PC last time I played, and it was really easy to just type to people. On 360, how do most people communicate? Does seriously everyone go out and buy one of those little text pad adapters for the Xbox 360 controller? I guess it's not bad, only like $30, but meh...I'd hope most people just communicate through voice so I could avoid the 30bucks sink, but then again that'd probably get annoying, with all the kids playing this game...

What else what else...

I think that's it right now, I might edit more in later!

But yeah, gonna be making a brand new character, so if you want to play some let me know, me and my friend will be getting started right away. I'm downloading Ambitions of Illuminous as I type this.

Oh...on a side note...

Did this website get re-skinned lately? I remember being a member of some PSU forums a while back when I played...Similar to these but looked completely different. Also my old account's gone so makes me think these are really just completely different forums, but the search item function was almost identical. Hrmmmm.

Anyway, seeya all around, and thanks in advance for any answers/advice!

I always play the burst oriented caster in MMO's I play, so might as well do the same with PSU.Okay, im not entirely sure what a "Burst oriented class" is, but through context ill believe you mean "High damage high cost"? (OMG high damage but WTF low defense?) If thats the case, then Masterforce or Fortetecher is the way to go. And you asked about new classes, so ill go ahead and tell you. Im GUESSING you've been out longer than the expansion has been in, though.

Expansion classes :

Acrotecher - Mix between generally fast hitting weapons and technics. Technic casting speed is increased for this class. (Hunewearl, more or less.) Attack technics go up to lv 30. (2nd phase change) Acrofighter - A general mix between agile striking and ranged weapons. Nothing heavy. Attack speed is increased for this class, but it has no technics. I forget the photon Art caps.

Newly added classes (most recent)
Mastergunner - Pure offensive ranged class. Has a very limited selection of weapons, and i believe the only rank of equipment you can equip is S-rank. Firing speed increased, only class with access to Lv50 Bullets. (In other words, badass.) Fighmaster - Pure offensive Striking class. Has a very limited selection of weapons, only equipment you can equip is S-rank. Attack speed is increased, only class with lv 50 photon arts. Masterforce - Pure offensive Technic class. Can only equip S-rank force weapons (madoog, rod, wand). Only class that can achieve Lv50 Technics. (WTF rape graphics.) However, support technics dont go past 10. (Huge bummer.)

(And just a note that will most likely piss you off about forces, Sonic Team recently released a patch that defaults the Graphical Effect of your Technics to Lv 21-30 (2nd phase change). That means if you have technics Lv 31+ or 41+ (graphics that make you feel like Jesus), everyone in your party will view them as 21-30.) So, around the time you REALLY start liking your force, just remember people really dont know what you're talking about when you say your shit looks cool. Personally, it took almost 50% of the flavor out of even being a force for me.

1-B. If anybody has a link to any good guides for said class mentioned in question 1...I could really get in to a guide right about now. I'm not sure what spells to get, what spells to avoid, what to level up first, etc, etc. Hell, I still need to be refreshed on what elements are strong vs what, if I remember right this game had a sort of backwards element system compared to what I'm used to.Check the guides forum. Tons of them there.

And the elements system is just simplified, thats all. Each element has its strong and weak point, but they always are the same. For instance, On fire enemies you use Ice. On Ice enemies, you use fire. The damage you deal is only REDUCED when you're using the same element against the enemy. For defense, it works the same way -- It reduces damage taken from same element enemies. Opposite element enemys rape you though.

2. I was playing the PSU demo today, and I remember being able to buy a open shop from the room decorator vendor, but in the demo it wasn't there. There's still player shops isn't there? I'd be a suicidal panda if there wasn't. Hopefully it just wasn't there because it was...the demo.Oh CHRIST dont play that demo ever. Its horrible.

But yeah, the shop vendor thing is definately still there. Couple of other neat room features too.

3. Speaking of player shops, how's the economy now? Back when I played you could sell photons for some decent pocket change, hah. Still the case? Harder to make money now? Easier?Cant say, ive been gone for too long, and even when i was on, i was playing on the PC/PS2 servers.

4. Oh, something I'm really worried about. I played on PC last time I played, and it was really easy to just type to people. On 360, how do most people communicate? Does seriously everyone go out and buy one of those little text pad adapters for the Xbox 360 controller? I guess it's not bad, only like $30, but meh...I'd hope most people just communicate through voice so I could avoid the 30bucks sink, but then again that'd probably get annoying, with all the kids playing this game...The " HEL YAH" psu texter bullcrap? Nah, i dont think anyone actually bought that crap.

If you have a USB Keyboard, just plug it into your 360. If not, just get a Ps/2 --> USB converter and use that. However this is Xbox Live, so people both type AND talk on 360 -- it works out pretty well too. And i personally havent ran into too many kids on the subscription. The $10 fee weeds all the 9 year olds and porn advertisers out. So yeah if you have a Mic or a USB keyboard, you're set to go. Otherwise you're stuck with the onscreen KB, which....well, gets you killed.

What else what else...

Did this website get re-skinned lately? Yup.

Final notes...

Being a force on PSU is hard work. Kind of a mental thing, too. You're damage will be great, but depending on how you play you'll start to feel like you're in the backseat when you see the Hunters throwing off 3000's and 4000's and dropping dragons in seconds. The damage forces deal, however, is less in big numbers but in multipliers. We dont really do that good vs. one giant enemy -- crowd control is where we excel. Where they can hit one enemy for 6000 damage at once, we can hit 4 for 2000. Or 6 for 1200.

Im saying that because alot of people started off knocking Masterforce for not being able to hit 12 targets at once and deal super retardo amounts of damage, but thats not what the class is for. Forces in this game are the damage spreaders. Almost all of the technics are designed that way.

Welcome back! I am glad that you have enjoyed PS, me too! I started on the genesis with the original games and have stuck with the series ever since. As a matter of fact, PS games are the only video games I play! Asides from the occasional Shining Force or Mario 64 Rom. If you play on the PC, my name is LadyDatura. I am a casual player now, but can be found on Uni2 Paracabana Coast helping out with SeedExpress runs. Not now though, too late to be collecting rares and lvling PAs! Hope to see you around!
