Ooooh, niiiice! (Actually, it's probably just the appeal of the twin tails in the drawing)

Bathtowel... doesn't take much to win ST over it seems

It's both a handgun and a dagger! (twin version too)

EDIT: they just updated the page with the models for the in-game items:

LMFAO @ the bath-towel.

Coolest weapons in the game when they get out.

Coolest clothing in the game when it gets out.

Sad that Sega could never come up with something like these on their own. :disapprove:

The Kakuwane Suit is a contribution from the Dev team... ie. they couldn't come up with anything better themselves.
A plus if it makes kakuwane noises as you walk...

Was kinda hoping one of ours would've made it in.

But looking at those winning photos and the handwritten Japanese on them...yeah. I doubt Segac even considered us lowly Westerners. XD

Some nice stuff there but I can't really agree with the winning clothes(not feeling the whole Samurai thing)or the Kakwane suit(EVERYONE hates those things, why would you want to look like them?).

Ffuzzy-Logik

Some of those look pretty silly, but not bad overall, really.

Oh, and inb4we find out that these will all end up being G-Cash items olloloololloololol.

Nice of them to hold a contest though, do the winners earn a reward other than fame?

Nice new clothes and weapons but that Kakwane suit is something lol, who whould go around running like a big frog xD, rappy suit not good enough or boring to them and lol at the towel clothes, looks like they have more pervs there than here, must have gotten it off based on anime with girls with towels comming out of the shower or bath, also that handgun looks nice.

Jul 22, 2009, 05:36 AM
Are those the only ones being put into the game? I hope they put more than that in.
I wish they would have accepted more "serious" looking weapons. PSU doesn't need a cartoony rappy fan slicer or a strawberry mechgun. >_>

God knows we don't need a froggy suit.... >_>

Really don't like most of those designs.

- The female clothing design linked in first post looks dull, and not enough to stand out from existing clothes.
- Bathtowel? Really?
- We didn't need a Kakwane suit, Rappy Suit is bad enough.
- What the hell is that gun/dagger? It looks so mashed together; although I'm mildly interested to see how ST will make it work (waiting for a handgun that you can't actually use the blades on).

Looking through some of the other designs...
- Bil De Vear rod? We already have two Bil De Vear items (Bil De Axe and Bil De Horn Axe in PSP).
- The male cast parts were probably the best design, but at the same time they don't look different enough to distinguish from the parts already available, aside from the cloth parts.

Very disappointing selection, really.

Frog Suits! 2 more suits to go :o and Strawberry mechgun. Eh I'd rather see the rare red bees as a mech. http://www.pso-world.com/forums/album.php?albumid=744&pictureid=7719

Yea most of these designes are "meh" at best. And one of the winners (One with the black/red wavey sword) didn't really even try. XD There had to have been more creative things then that in the submissions.

It reminds me of Armored Core: For answer...EVERY time I step into co op mode I see a mech that resembles either a gundam or other anime mech. They even forgo useing the shoulder slots for weapons.

For unique as the Japanese make things, they can sure be uncreative. :\

Calsetes
Jul 22, 2009, 09:43 AM
The "Red Power Ranger Suit" as I call it looks like it might be something Chaz would wear from PS4, probably my favorite of the series, which is cool and would TOTALLY go on Calsetes (well, aside from the helmet. That might go on him in SPF wear...)

Other than that, the winner for the clothes piece looks decent enough - might have to get it for Eimi or Narau if and when we get it.

Edit: If I had For Answer, and for the system you have it for, you'd have to check out some of my designs - they don't look exactly "anime-style," but they don't look like non-anime-style either. I do use my shoulder slots though - no point in wasting slots and weight.

Besides that Handgun/Dagger in the OP (that I mysteriously haven't noticed on the website), I'm very disappointed with the selection.

I've seen much better weapon designs in the PSOW thread, and all the clothes design are pretty bland and boring.
We have more than enough Fanservice crap for females, and I was looking forward to something a bit more manly or punk-style for males - samurai/white knight stuff is overrated.
And I won't even comment on those bulky Armored Core/Gundam-wanabee CAST parts... :/

Yeah, there were at least 5-6 things in the thread here a while back that beat the other stuff by miles. Looking at the weapons, there is a fairly interesting bow though, composed of floating crystals. (Or so it seemed)

The designer calls it the Lavis Arrow, something I'm sure fans of the Lavis weapons from PSO will enjoy.

Personally, I like the Bil De Vear rod the most. Dark Meteor's pretty cool, too.

Yes, i have to agree that the user submitted art i seen here at this site is superior to those picked in JP.

I really like those Cast parts - Now the incentive for me to make a male Cast has increased several times..!

With all of these events and easy EXP missions, recreating characters in a matter of days.

The "Angel Saber" and "Lavis Longbow" look so cool..! (Not actual names but they were what came to mind, heh heh)

Even if they were GUARDIANs Cash only, I'd strive to get some of these - but... are they only doing those few clothes/weapons..?

I might just make a Human Male just for the Samurai outfit. I just hope its not a disaster like the Guardians formal and we have to hunt some rare monster for it's corny ass rare item drop so we can wear it. Also I wonder how that Gun/Dagger weapon will work. Oh and I knew that only the JP entries would get picked. Thank god I didn't waste my time submittin anything.

The bathtowel looks pretty neat and so does the winged saber, though I thought it was a slicer at first, which I think would have been kooler.

I for one wouldnt mind the kakwane suit, I need something new to laugh at, since psu is now considered a joke! Well, I actually like the idea of having a froggie suit =3

I'm WAY dissapointed there's no archive for all the non-winning ones.

I totally totally want to see ALL the designs. The hilarious gag ones and just everything everyone submitted. Why aren't they doing a gallery for that? They did it in all the other contests they've had. I would of loved to see the stuff they DIDNT pick to compare it to both their picks and our stuff too.

The funny money wallet one is a great example. I'd love to see more where that came from. You knew that nothing World was going to win, but anyone who entered showed them the world means biz, and will participate which is what counts. Still, I'd like to see who we topped via a big gallery...or who topped our stuff too.

Bath towel is funny/creative but it is not awesome etc. etc. Winning sword being inspired by the Orca Whale is curious (hard to see) and the design is quite slick, but I love looking at all design varieties. The moatoob bows on here I thought were really memorable, even above their impossible dagger/gun (it would be a new wepclass, they're not going to invent one to shoehorn that thing in there)

Still...when added to the game, I'll be interested to have a look.

Well, the dagger pistol is listed under the following weapon types...
"Handgun, Dagger, Twin Handgun, Twin Daggers"
So... either they'll have two versions of it (besides single/twin anyway), or the weapon will have a melee switch, which would be highly welcome as a change-up to things.

What'll happen is probably we have to switch it manually on the equipment screen. It'll act like setting up TECHs for wands or something. But that would be awesome.

Alnet
Jul 23, 2009, 10:39 PM
^ What I was thinking was that it'd be like a Twin Knives normally, but the shoulder button for when using Handgun/Crossbow/Mechgun/T-MAG would switch it to Twin Handguns mode. That way, you'd have a Twin Knives PA and a Twin Handgun PA on at the same time.

As for the element... suppose that it'd either depend on the Twin Handgun PA, or it'd be element locked when dropped/synthed, and that element will permanently determine what Twin Handgun PA it has. I can see the latter being more probable.

Waki Miko Syamemaru!
Jul 23, 2009, 11:30 PM
Either that or the weapon itself is Nuetral. The only way it could change elements is what bullet PA is loaded onto it. F*ck yea this weapon rocks.

Ffuzzy-Logik
Jul 24, 2009, 12:09 AM
Most likely, they'll just make four separate weapons with the same model: a handgun, a twin handgun, a dagger, and a twin dagger. Don't expect them to do anything revolutionary.

I did some research on that when I saw it earlier today, and it turns out that it was submitted in a costume design contest for Fantasy Earth Zero back in 2007.

I figure it's probably the original designer submitting their work for a new contest. Still, if the design was used in FEZ, I think it puts a red flag up for its use in PSU.

if it really is the same designer, that's reeeeeally cheap of them submiting the same design twice. doesnt the design technically belong to sega once you win? i mean the reason the character known as charcole was killed off in thunderbolts was over a dispute about ownership and rewards

Unlikely, why would the original designer even need to resort to copypasta their original design?

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/FoLina/PSU/clothes_best.jpg
Notice how the green outline is still visible on most parts of the costume, and the sword?
Source files missing perhaps?? It's a cut-paste job however you look at it...
In fact, the outline on the sword should have been a dead giveaway. Guess everyone was too busy looking at the female outfits to care what males got :o

And I look at the other link, and wow nice stuff... Especially the Imperial Guard. And all ST can pick as the winner for females is a BATH TOWEL!

I like the pile driver knuckle thing, that would have been awesome to see in-game. Same thing with the full-blown kimono thing and the last entry there (just kind of glancing at them quickly at work, don't want to get caught looking at questionable material for too long). A few might warrant me to take another look though, once certain people leave.

Hmmm.
None of them really appeal to me, really.

The first three are awfully generic - I like kimonos/yukatas, but goddamn, we already have more than enough traditional wapanese stuff in that game that has so much potential for more inventive stuff.

I really don't like the look of the fourth, and I would see the last two in a Dead or Alive game as bonus costumes more than anything else.
Though I wouldn't be surprised for them to chose the bondage costume. Only lacks this one for PSU to have the whole panoply of otaku fetishes in female clothings. :|

I think they're still missing a "school girl" style sailor suit, although I guess the Amorosso suit comes close but it's still not a full-blown.... whatever the official name for them is.

Still, I was hoping to see more male non-cast stuff that wouldn't look like someone was dressing up to go raving or something. Is some battle armor aside from the SPF gear that much to ask for?

DAMM.
They plagerized their own contest. There's no doubt whatsover that that's either plagerized or a re-use which they said not to do at the start. They said they didnt want anything submitted anywhere else or to anyone else before the contest even started. What a scandal that must be over there...

If you're bitter: "At least the world entries/usa/eu/wherever didn't plagerize anything...and THEY weren't even welcome at the contest!"

Secretly I am hoping this incident helps them to consider allowing in everyone who plays the game and pays for it into the events for the game that everyone shares a like for. It only makes sense for fans and the bottom line.

To Katy: those are fun!
If there are any more, is there a link to them? Seeing all the other designs that didn't win is great.

It makes no sense whatsoever. The JP version of the game is for use in Japan onry, why should they have to accept foreign entries for a JP onry game? Importers are evil gaijin breaking STs ToS in the first place!
ST wasn't smart enough to block foreign IPs like other games do (Monster Hunter, Arad, FEZ, etc), but that's another matter.

If you're bitter: "At least the world entries/usa/eu/wherever didn't plagerize anything...and THEY weren't even welcome at the contest!"
Just because you're bitter about not winning, doesn't mean that they weren't welcome. :-?
Do you always kick up a fuss whenever a chinese/korean/japanese MMORPG has a design contest, and you can't enter? Or is PSU the only game you care about?

And how do you plagiarize your own contest by picking the wrong winning entry, anyway?

Tch that sucks. I really liked that Samurai costume!!! It was so cool. Now what do we get? Kakwane suits and a bath towel for the big winners.

Frakkin Kakwane Suits pisses me off for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe because it's aesthetically displeasing to the eye. The only good pick was the DG-Z weapon and the M CAST outfit. The rest is a debacle. I would've loved to see some of our submissions get picked. But then again US/EU are dirty gaijin that are unworthy to the Japanese.

I find this bitching hilarious, you seem to be underestimating the ingenuity of the Japanese if you think that a frog suit and a towel were their best contest entries.

I just don't understand what was so fantastic about the towel and Kakwane suit. The weapons however were pretty nice. I really like the dagger/gun combo and that whale sword. I wonder if it makes a whale noise when swung? Also if you enjoyed my bitching about that you should hear me bitch about people who wear they're socks up to they're knees. People find it equally hilarious.

The Kakuwane suit isn't a contest entry... It's the dev teams contribution to the game.

As for the bath towel, you can imagine the judging went sorta like this.
Ooh! too hard to model... pass
Wah! too hard to model... pass
Wow! too hard to model... pass
Bathtowel! perfect! gentlemen we have a winner!

I'd never actually seen contest fraud succeede so well before is why I commented again.

Yes it's happened before the judging and gotten caught, (seen that) and yes like on Xbox/killcount people etc but that was more of an error. I thought it was pretty crazy that someone would jump against the rules like that, make it to the top, and then stay there for such a while.

I wouldn't of complained at all in ANY form if the whole segregation thing played fair. If they want to block IPs and all of that, that's cool. The game being 'jp onry' is no problem at all if we have a 'eng only' version of everything they do. And they've been *pretty darn good* about that in-game wise--even dropping us some 'impossible' items such as the link up with PSU PSP items that we couldn't have because our PSPs won't link. If they'd said 'world will be getting this contest too...' everyone would've had a fit of excitement and JP would of only gotten their own countries' entries.

Everyone was so keen to muscle in on their contest because it's pretty much a given that "it ain't happenin' outside of JP" (ie, 'world' will never get it's own shot--however world will eventually get their costumes that win) I knew that none of the world entries even had a tiny speck of a chance to win including my own. I only did it/encouraged others as a type of 'show of force/enthusiasm' that there's people out here who do pay good money and who are genuinely (still) interested in what they've got on offer. The 'bitter' bit was only for people who consider the JP side to think 'holier then thou' and the rest of the world as 'lame/dirty' but yet the rest of the world was not the ones who did cheat. Do they really think so? There's no way to know...

Reason for bath towel: totally agree.

Thankfully, one of the first things they assure us is that none of these items will require GC.

Also, all of these items (with the exception of Chevalier Fluge) will be included in PSP2. Chevalier Fluge (male cast parts) will become available, however, as one of the game's first free downloadable items.

It's exactly as Lina said. According to the submission guidelines, by submitting a piece of work, it effectively became the sole property of SonicTeam, giving them the rights to do whatever they please with it. Also, slightly before (or maybe it was just after) PSP2 was announced, a little disclaimer went up on the item design contest site saying that submissions may be used in future titles.

Uh, on the whole "copying somebody else's work" thing, it's not ok to use some other guy's entry from some other contest, but it's ok to use the design off another game? Because any way I look at it, the "kotetsu" or whatever saber from that twin saber set with the wing saber, is a replica of "brotherhood" from Final Fantasy X... (Tidus' signature weapon after Wakka gave it to him...) So uh... yeah. The "3D" version sort of makes it harder to realise but if you look at the design the guy sent in for the contest and compare it with brotherhood's artwork, they're practically the same sword but in PSU style... lol

I see your logic and I agree with it, but I don't call it an incidental overlap when both are a sword with a hook end and a hilt that's like a dragon's mouth (eye and all), with a cloth hanging from the end of the hilt. I wish I could easily google and find good artwork of the brotherhood sword from FFX, but it's of no importance anyway, I just wanted to point it out lol. I wouldn't want them to withdraw yet another item because they suspect it's copied from another place anyway, lol.

Also, yes it's very lame that they haven't picked another 1st place winner for clothes and parts as soon as they found out that the original 1st place winner would have to be disqualified completely. Boo to that.
