Revising recent training programs, the Supervisor's Lesson has prepared versions of Protectors: Alpha & Beta, with new high-level monsters and items! This will include S2 ranked difficulty missions; the previous versions of these missions were only ranks C-S.

The Desert Arms Dealer update is nice, but... if memory serves me right, that means we're only getting the Adahna Degahna Cannon. Granted, if I were still playing, I'd love to have this, but is there even going to be a chance of getting the Adahna Unit again during this "event?" And once it's gone.... then what? We wait another several months until Lv150+ Adahna Degahna becomes readily available for people to hunt the damned thing? >_>X

I've said it before, and I'll say it yet again: updates don't mean jack shit unless they FIX things or keep the playerbase entertained. Now I understand a lot of people are glad to see something to do coming up, but that's merely all I see it as - "something to do." This update has nothing to do with fixing the issues that need to be addressed in PSU, and that's fixing things like class balancing, latency and lag issues, proper maintenance of the billing servers so people can even log on in the first place - hell, you people should know by now. Otherwise, I see this as nothing but reused maps with slightly more difficult (if you can even call it that) enemies that can easily be shredded through, with a few new toys thrown in that should've been out years ago.

And speaking of the drops, after reviewing the list... why are items like Twin Crea Saber+ and A rank equipment on De Ragan still dropping on S2 difficulty?? And items like Lumira / Magic... these new items are worthless to begin with because of the poorly established stats, not to mention you're either using a Har/Quick or Har/Smart to cast faster, a tech-boosting unit to make them stronger (much less likely though), or a /Mind unit to boost your magic defense by an insignificant amount because you can't use magic in the first place.

And of course, you're killing the same old enemies and bosses with no new strategies involved, and most likely running the same old maps too, just poorly thrown together in some random amalgamation you can call a "mission." What challenge is involved, other than having to run the damned thing 50 gajillion times over again until you find the new items and get bored of it all again by the next week?

I'm sorry, but this is horrible game design, and Sega just keeps spitting out to us at their abysmally horrid rate. Problems are not fixed, players are not challenged, just the same perpetual bullshit over and over... and that's just laughable imo. Call me up once Sega actually starts FIXING things... -_-X

Tet, you should know PSU is not going to get fixed. Ever. Updates like this are all we CAN expect for now. If and when they'll release a new PSU game, then yeah, there might finally be some radical changes that should have been done years ago. But as it is, PSU is going to be nothing more than a game you only play during events. Plain and simple.

Negatives aside and back on topic, I'm still looking forward to this event. Even if it's just "something to do," I'll have some fun with it and that's all that matters.

But this update comes at a time where my birthday is quickly approching (27 on october 2), playing new games, and dealing with an illiness right now. I'll manage between these missions and everything else....just as long as I meet some REAL friends in PSU this time, and not deal with psychonuts or any other a-holes during these next 2 weeks.

and white beast has been out for 2 years . my point is that instead of giving us all this limited time only garbage they should try leaving some of it in. CoS and SB got put in on August 28th 2009 (both of which are somewhat unrewarding and mediocre on the fun level imo) but before that if you count the Mission carnival minigame missions the last permanant mission addition was march 4. The last real permanant mission we got before that was seed express with the parum GBR on DECEMBER 5th 2008. Thats about 10months which is the better part of a year. There is tons of stuff that sega takes out, why not just leave it in? the event idea is stupid.

I agree with that right there aside from the bring me back part, i'll probably be playing it a bit but i gotta admit the rehashing shit and taking years to unlock items that are already in the game since even before the expansion, has always been shitty, but at least they still got the game running i guess.

I couldn't agree with you more. This concept of events is fucking stupid. Why not just leave them up? I don't like that they give us the extra experence then take it away. At the end of the event I always lose my will to play, because I don't want to go back to doing white beast again.

On that note, why isn't the game more balanced out in terms of the experence? They give us all these different areas to pick from Vs. the four we had back in PSO V.1, and yet all people play is White Beast unless we have an event. If that wasn't bad enough, the XP we receive during the events is just like a tease. I'd almost rather not even have it at all.

How is the concept of the event stupid I see it as a "Get it while its hot" type of thing meaning do the missions now if you realy want whats in it.
Also, not all people play is white beast mabey you should correct yourself all you play is white beast. I happen to do alot of missions like hunting fo repca boards,hunting for vijeri/resist, hunting for Power/charge, hunting for Armas Line ,Hunting for Crea double boards,Hunting for Lkk.etc
There are plenty of missions to do other than white beast if you want to spam a mission that has you at no chance of making money then thats your problem. Also, events are for new stuff coming and for easier leveling if these were permanet then everything in the game would be [B]worthless.

Trade it in for an Elite at gamestop, and get a $50 rebate. So you will get $90 for the trade. Thats a new Elite system for $160.

How is the concept of the event stupid I see it as a "Get it while its hot" type of thing meaning do the missions now if you realy want whats in it.
Also, not all people play is white beast mabey you should correct yourself all you play is white beast. I happen to do alot of missions like hunting fo repca boards,hunting for vijeri/resist, hunting for Power/charge, hunting for Armas Line ,Hunting for Crea double boards,Hunting for Lkk.etc
There are plenty of missions to do other than white beast if you want to spam a mission that has you at no chance of making money then thats your problem. Also, events are for new stuff coming and for easier leveling if these were permanet then everything in the game would be [B]worthless.

I feel that the idea of having events in an online game is important; HOWEVER, I also feel that event items should be limited to the event ONLY (similar to the seasonal rappies/jaggos), and should not be able to break the game in terms of their stats, but have more unique and cosmetic-type effects. This helps keep players interested in getting these items, but at the same time, it won't break the game because previously rare items aren't being whored out.

Also, just my opinion, but I've had much better luck earning money through high end reward missions like White Beast than running a different mission 50 gajillion times and not having the item I'm looking for drop... that, and most likely, I'd want to KEEP that item for my own use instead of sell it. You can always get money on this game, but you can't always get an Igg Crown, or a Vijeri/Resist, etc.

I disagree with you, you make about the same cash on Seed Express as you would on White Beast and it is a far better mission.

Read that again - I never said White Beast was the ONLY mission I did. I've done plenty of Seed Express and Bladed Legacy too, but sadly that's about it, unless my friends needed help with something. Because of the tiny population on this game, that's usually where I had to go in order to find some parties... much more so find items and money worth my time spamming the place over and over.

I also soloed True Darkness and Grove of Fanatics for hours on end trying to get a Blackbull or Adahna Degahna board to drop when they were still rare. I remember actually making myself go BROKE once trying to solo fight Degahna back when he was actually DIFFICULT.

Please don't accuse me of things like that again; I played this damned game for two and half years, and I'm pretty sure I know how things were like... -_-X

Except Absolute Zero, is there any event coming out with new missions? As much as I love playing the game, I do think it is getting boring to play the same missions over and over again. Things like MAG+ are practically a joke. In all honesty they just make missions like these and MAG+ because it saves time and there isn't much they have to do.
Couldn't MAG+ be skipped and instead Absolute Zero right away added? Why take an old event when there is a new one to be used.
And if they have to add old stuff, why not the old cool stuff like the floadder(sp?) races? Why not make something featuring Lungas, instead of using these old missions over and over again?

Even in japan after wanting to leave the ps2 behind all they are doing is adding the psp weapons(which is cool, but there are no NEW weapons, plus a lot of them are going into GC), I am not even sure if they even added a new mission.

I love PSU for it's playstyle and how different it is to other online games. I also love the character and level design of the game.
But, there is something lacking. I'ts just overall how Sonic team takes care of the game. Yes, they add things like the supplemental update. But in the end that update will likely make the game just more boring if you are even more overpowered and there are no enemies higher than you.
I do not know why Sonic Team is so afraid of releasing high level monsters, or maybe they hope the longer they wait the longer the players will stay to see those high level monsters?

All in all, I am always happy when an update happens as it brings people back. But there is a lot lacking in PSU. And when I see the JP PSU updates I just see it going down hill even more.
I am hoping, PSP2 will fix the problems PSU have, and might make it to the consoles as an new game.

As is with all things in this life Love will eventually come to an end. We need to put our best foot forward when we find ourselves in that situation and move on as difficult as it may be! WOW, do you REALLY think I'm that dense??

I expect PSU to be shut down within another year, if it's lucky, and I'll be glad to see another (hopefully better) Phantasy Star title - most likely PSP2 at this point - take its place. Whether or not it pries me away from the Final Fantasy series and other games... only time and reviews will tell.

As of right now though... Sega/Sonic Team, in my eyes, is still bent so far over backwards that they have their own heads up their asses. Either they're going to suffocate under their own foul stench, or they'll get smart and pull the fuck out... gentlemen, place your bets. =/

I'm pretty sure that event was called "1up Cup" in the first place because 1up.com funded it, and there were staff members from that site constantly mentioned in it. I highly doubt they would do something like that to a dying game that got a decent review... when it first came out. Besides, a few portions of 1up cup was rehashed in the original alpha/beta anyway. So in a way it kinda did come back, just not completely(with firebreak as well).
