I wanted to learn more about phantasy star and it universe. I really enjoy the sci fi post apocalyptic atmosphere that many of the games have. Anyone know where I can find out more about phantasy star stories and plots?

post apocalyptic? well PS4 maybe but not 1-3. www.PScave.com or www.phantasy-star.net are a good start

By today's standards they are not that long to play through(especially with a cheat device for leveling). The Genesis Collection is available multi-platform it has Phantasy Star II, III, and IV. I think Gameboy advance has the only port of Phantasy Star 1.

Of course if you don't need the hard copies you can always find old games online. The best way to experience the story is to play the games especially if you love old school rpg goodness.

P.S. Omega Phantasy Star III is definantly post apocalyptic, while PS II is apocalyptic for Algo, and post apocalyptic for Earth.

Just play PSIV. That puts together all the major story elements of all the games (though it doesn't give you the same feel of any of them, due to all the games having completely different feels), and it's a pretty nice RPG to boot. And, it really gives you a nice appreciation for the online games' stories.

Plus you get to see what a newman can really do.

ehh... I say if your only going to play one it should be Phantasy Star II. It's only my opinion but I feel it was the finest rpg of the 16-bit era.

OK... I remember finding a complete PS timeline from 1-4 (Fanmade ofcourse) It was ps1, ps2, 3/4ths of PS4, ps memorial drama, rest of ps4, and ps3, then it explained how all the endings of PS3 can lead up to PSO and PSU.

I found it a few years ago so IDK where it is now :/.

It isn't a question of how fine the game was. It's a question of completion. PSIV not only tells parts of the story from the first game (something II doesn't do), not only explains how PSIII came about. It also is, pretty much, BASED around PSII, tells you exactly where everything comes from, and puts and end to it. It's the most complete game of the four in terms of story.
And, it's the most playable in terms of difficulty. No grinding really needed, story is presented in an interesting way, gameplay is never dull or confusing... It's a great compromise between old and new RPGs. And not only that, but even though it does tell you things about the older games, it doesn't really spoil everything. It gives you clues about what happened, and if you're really curious, it makes you want to know exactly how it happened.

Or you can just visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantasy_Star That works too.

Play all of the fan translated Phantasy Star Adventure games (Phantasy Star Adventure, Kinds' Adventure, Huey's Adventure, Anne's Adventure, Shilka's Adventure) theres more Adventure games but they are not completely translated. Play Phantasy Star II, and Phantasy Star IV. Along with PSO, these are the most influential games to the Phantasy Star franchise as a whole in my opinion.

You also might want to check out the translation of the Phantasy Star Memorial Drama CD.

And the translation of the Phantasy Star Compendium.

This should get you mostly caught up.

Playing PSIV is the best way to go. It has way more info about the world of phantasy star (Algo Star System) than any other game and its a lot of fun. I played PSIV before any of the others and I don't regret it at all. The series actually makes more sense if you play IV first.
