I looked up Error Code: 86420 on the Nintendo Wii/DS Customer Service website.
The following is from this webpage (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/ds/results.jsp?error_code=86420&system=Wii&locale=en_US):
Error Code: 86420
This error occurs when there is a communication problem between players during online gameplay.
Try this:
If your router's security software (firewall) is turned on, it may block communication that is required for online gameplay. To fix this, try disabling the router's firewall*.
Most firewall settings are located under the "Advanced" or "Security" tab.
If the problem still persists with the firewall off, you may need to open ports on your router through the Port Forwarding feature.
Create a manual connection (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/connectingOnline.jsp?entryId=manualSetup) on your Wii/DS and assign a static IP Address.
Open ports 1 through 65535 as both TCP and UDP.
Ensure the ports are forwarded to the same IP Address given to the Wii/DS during the manual setup.
Trouble connecting to a friend?
If the above steps have not resolved the issue and you are trying to connect with specific friends, the problem could potentially be an issue on your friend's network. Your friend will have to perform these troubleshooting steps with their home network.
Using USB Connector or Lan Adapter? Please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we can assist you further.
*While Nintendo provides this information for our consumers' use, it is up to each consumer to determine what security needs they have for their own networks, and to decide how best to configure their network settings to meet those needs.
Hope that helps! :)

If that's the case then I don't think it'll be worth quitting the game over something that could easily have happened with another wifi enabled game.
it does this every time i try and connect though
I think I can explain that error...
See in freeplay you are searching for other people to play with. Now once the service has found people, it tries to determine who will host the game. Nintendo doesn't host it, one of you with a network connection will. However here's the problem: if the host and one of its clients do not have a compatible connection (where as one person has a firewall or router blocking the connection) you get stuck for a bit waiting and waiting until the connection times out thus giving you that error message.
If this is a frequent problem for you, you should try getting some friend codes and finding someone who has a connection that you can connect to.

So you're going to stop playing, because you don't know how to set up the router to work with the DS? Kind of a bad reason. If you don't want to do it, ask someone who knows what the steps are talking about.
Also, it's offensive to call things "gay". Please don't do it.

Lol calm down buddy.
You could try restarting your modem or the computer it connects to.

Have you been able to resolve the problem you've been having? I ask because I noticed another topic posted by you asking if anyone is up for an SH run.
