Now that PC/PS2 servers are shutting down I am thinking of moving over to the jp server. I know nothing about it however so any info would be appreciated. I assume I need jp version of AOTI, where do i go to sub?

I know a few players are there now so where do you meet and could I get a little help if I go there since I don't have a clue how to speak/read Jp?

I dont own an Xbox and really would hate to switch from no lag to xblox slowdown/lag.

All my great friends from here please join me in the move :) Love ya guys

Thanks for the info too.

I would like to test it because I have the incredible luck of being exactly on the other side of the world (relative to japan) right now and I'm afraid about lag issues but it seems I'm too late to get the free license :(.

This. I would switch to JPN but I don't want to re-level and hunt gear...

I also never want to give them another penny of my hard earned money if all I'm going to get after 2500+ hours of playing is a kick in the arse.

No problem guys.

By the way, you should try first the 5-day trial JP offers; if you really feel like staying, you can go to the next step of paying for a key. I have around 3 days using the free trial and I feel ok playing in JP, ignoring the fact I still have my issues with the language (nothing a katakana chart and google translator can't solve :) ). I had no problems with billing (in comparison of SOA where I had to request some help from support team :( )

See you around guys, and have fun! :P

http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2417223&postcount=14

i have the account that i made with a game key, but no trial though :p
so you wouldnt need to pay for a key just the month license

download the game it might be slow, I will look into hosting the files for possibly faster download

step 1: go here and click on that red button

step 2: it will ask you for your email address enter it in both boxes
then click the green box to send an email confirmation
[SPOILER-BOX]http://lan.0noes.net/signup/2.png[/SPOILER-BOX]

step 3: check your inbox for an email and click the link in the email
this will take you to the next step

step 4: fill out the info (or just copy paste the examples)
the box where I have "psulogin" that will be your psu username to login
click the box under it to see if your username is available
then click the green button to continue
[SPOILER-BOX]http://lan.0noes.net/signup/3.png[/SPOILER-BOX]

step 5: 2nd confirmation email
check your inbox for another email
this email will provide you your password

starting over in JP is better choice than re-starting in xbox, since it will also face the same destiny to have server shutdown in no long future, if they still getting slow update.

Jan 22, 2010, 06:35 AM
^ Depends. I think you're a bit too harsh Arika. I'd probably just say it's the safer choice, rather than throw words in combination like "destiny" and "near future" around for the other server.

Either way, it depends on what you want. Some will be happy on the 360 servers, others are probably better suited for the JPN ones. Some are probably better off letting go of PSU for now.

It's kind of a duality type thing for myself. It's kind of a big blow on the EU/NA side, and this seemed rather early, but at the same time, the promise of more focused support and some people coming over is fairly nice for a 360 user myself.

So, uh... Hi anyone who is joining us! ^^;;;

It's a JP PSU translator. It'll tell you everything that drops in english, translates anything people say, translates stuff that you buy, ect ect. Big thanks to essen for this.

How much in total dollars does it cost to get set-up JP side?

If I'm reading this page (http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/entrance/) correctly - and it's entirely possible I'm not since I'm all but totally illiterate in Japanese - 1000 Yen for the game itself (US$11.11), plus 250 Yen/mo autorenew (US$2.78).

For can also buy 500GC (Guardian Cash) for 500 Yen (US$5.55)

Prices in US Dollars as of 2010.01.22 13:13:30 UTC.

Again, this is my interpretation of the runes. I could be wrong.

=Smidge=

Edit:

for whats required to play online (assuming your trials are over)
1000 yen for game key (10 day trial with purchase)
1050 yen per month for guardian license
Somehow I missed the "1" in front of the 260, which would make it 1,260. Wasn't sure which price was the auto-renew so I took a guess. (And I guessed wrong!)

Another question do you have to set PC to jp language or anything of that nature?

I got that part so far and the answer is yes. You have to set up your browser for japanese. Use the psupedia link on page 1 of this post... easy peasy...internet options choose lamguage, yada yada yada

milranduil
Jan 22, 2010, 03:07 PM
You also have to setup Japanese Microsoft IME on your keyboard as well.

Step 2 of this http://www.psupedia.info/Joining_the_Japanese_Server

You need the Japanese enabled browser to work the billing site, which T already said above.

And yes you can have US and JP PSU on your computer at the same time. However, there is an initial conflict issue. This is what I did (idk if it's more complicated than it should be, but it's not that bad).

Step 1) Install JP PSU, don't change the graphic settings, get the ubar large patch when you first log in.

Step 2) When it closes JP PSU after it's patched, uninstall US PSU and reinstall it (there is an initial conflict issue between the two that makes it so you can only really play JP). Patch US PSU, then set the graphics settings you want for either JP or US (the settings that you set for US carry over to JP as well)

Step 3) Whenever you want to modify your graphics settings for JP PSU, start US PSU, go to options and pick whatever changes you want to make and save them, then exit US PSU. Then start JP PSU and it will be on the settings that you want and you won't have to un or reinstall anything any more.

Yeah, but I can go through when it shows katakana characters on the captcha (I'm pretty sure I got it correct).

I always get a message box with a text that google translator shows as: Please enter the width katakana characters are displayed.

One thing that helped a lot was this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/Underwood_28-key_keyboard_for_Japanese_katakana.png

One thing I noticed, you can't write numbers while using katakana keyboard? Also, I can't find a way to write the other variations on the keyboard.

Edit: Am I getting it wrong?

It matches the direct imput mode and also has the words in roman letters for use with full-width katakana mode, the other chart I posted is easier to work with full-width katakana mode. I think both direct input and full=width katakana mode works, but I found the latter to be much easier to work with.

JP PSU used to be seperated into 2 servers. Each server couldn't interact with each other(like 360 and PS2/PC on US/EU). They condensed the servers into 1 however.

Now the first option(which would have been server 1) is for character slots 1-4. And the second option(would have been server 2) is for character slots 5-8.

I want to have both on my pc so that I can spend time with friends before the end but want to level up on the jp side. Anyone know how I can have both on my pc to switch in between? Did you add japanese and microsoft IME like it shows earlier in this thread? If so it takes some playing with to figure it out. When u get thebar to "show language bar" it will appear on the top. What I did was go to "INPUT" and change to "full width katakana" then click the button to the far right that says "kana"...it should be highlighted when on. (Also very important** you must click in a field as if you are typing in it before you can click kana. Then what you type should show as Katakana in the field.

Did you download all files on the link Re posted on the first page? Because that screen is the setup asking for the location of the .bin files.

download the game it might be slow, I will look into hosting the files for possibly faster download
http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/download/psuilluminus/httpdownload/

You have to download all 4 (3 if you don't include the setup you already have) to make the setup work. The setup is the executable and the game data is in the bin (it is like the setup coordinates the process, but the real data is on the # setup-1a.bin (2,050,285KB)
# setup-1b.bin (2,050,782KB)
# setup-2a.bin (1,245,877KB)

I had all files on the same folder and it worked.

I have a few questions not covered on the wiki site:

1. Is it possible to play on the 360 JP PSU servers?

2. Which side has a bigger population in japan, 360 or PC/PS2? (silly question I know but hey...)

3. when you type in-game, can you type in english?

4. can Japanese players type in english in like PSO?

5. can the PC version of the game be played with a 360 controller? are the controls seamless or do the sticks need tweaking of dead zones, resistance, acceleration, etc.?

thank you :)

1) The 360 server is universal. US/EU/JP all play on the same server.

2) PC/PS2 has the bigger servers compared to 360 I believe

3) Yep!

4) They can, but I haven't seen any do so.

5) Can't help you with this one. I use a Logitech PS2 controller =x

Jan 27, 2010, 09:29 PM
a recent screenshot i saw of the PSU JP population had 1 full star on each universe,
with 20 servers, this would mean arround 4 full universes

when i played PSU on 360 last weekend, universe 1 was full, all others unis has 1/2 star on them

so JP PSU has about 4x as many ppl play as 360 atm..

however, i'd say on JP PSU there are about 20-30 people that speak your language, whereas on 360 you have about 1 full universe of people that speak your language, so.. it's up to you what you prefer xD

same thing. did you have to configure it to work? when you adjust the control panel on the game itself, do you have to set X and Y axes separately? do you have to adjust acceleration in windows for the game to control well? do the sticks even operate as analog? does the right stick work to pan the camera? can you revers the yaw and pitch?

When you go to configure your controls, just use the English version to see which say what.
That's what I did.
Your buttons will be different than mine, so just think of it as X, O Square, Triangle, L1(or bumpers for Xbox 360), R1(or bumpers for Xbox 360), L2, R2, (L3 or R3 for the next 2, whichever you like) (start will be in the middle of L/R3)

Could we get a thread with a main post cataloging all the screennames of the people moving to JP PC/PS2? And perhaps set a certain lobby/server that we "hang" in. Something like that. I see now that a lot of people are moving to JP servers, so an easy way for other English-speaking players to meet each-other would be nice.

Or if there's already something like that, where is it?

Also, is it still possible to use the game key on v1, and then install Illuminus over it? Would that work?

You won`t need US PSU for much longer.

Would it be possible to make an english patch for the Japanese game? Since the entire population doesn`t have any other choice, i`m sure it would help a lot of players.

I know I won't need it much longer, but it would have been nice if I could've still played it on the PC from time to time instead of the PS2 =o

When I start later this week I'll just turn on my PS3 and login to my laptop at the same time. They way I can just coordinate all the options on the fly rather than shuffling through a bunch of screen shots.

Once I have that down I'll be in good shape ;)

I'm running windows xp and I made a separate user account for JP PSU so that I could use both without one overwriting the other. I had the same problem you did when I installed them both on the same username.

Ah, that's not a bad idea, I think I'll give that a try! Thank you!

I forgot to mention, you should make sure when you're installing JP PSU again that when it promts you for an install location, rename the directory to C:\SEGA_JP or something different from just C:\SEGA or it'll overwrite the shared data.

Both the Us and Jp one work with mine, and the pictures save to the same documents folder, even though I made a SEGA, and SEGAJP.
(Just the DATA goes into those, folders, and the menu options and whatnot)
The Jp PSU saves the pictures/log/backup in the same folder too.

It just saves as 0000000_0001 and 0000000_0001_1 or something like that when I have the same picture name.
They default numbers, so it just adds something to let you know it's a different file name.

OK here's another question about the US/JP version.

The default chat shortcuts (Alt+F1-F12) what were they again?

From what I remember:

F1 Hello
F2 Let's Go
F3 ???
F4 ???
F5 Sorry
F6 Thank You
F7 ???
F8 Want to do a run?
F9 ???
F10 ???
F11 Yes
F12 No.

Are the shortcuts the same on the JPN side? Reason I'm asking is I want to leave the defaults where they are for now until I actually learn some Japanese.

I'm playing tonight quite late, I hope I can run into some more of you guys tonight. I'll be on Uni 01, either doing Egg Theives, Innocent Girl or White Beast (UGH).

Pep.

I got a new problem now. Everything was working ok until yesterday.

Now it only shows my Japanese language bar (when I'm on PSU's window) like this: http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/2557/jpbar.jpg (http://img189.imageshack.us/i/jpbar.jpg/)

I can't choose full-width katakana with the bar like this and I can't figure out what caused this (or if something caused it or not) and how to solve this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My first guess would be that the language bar got docked accidentally and you just have to drag it off of the toolbar.

I tried doing this, even if the language bar is free at the top of the screen it will only show this. Other programs are normal with the pen icon and the other options. Also, pressing any of the 2 buttons didn't seem to do anything :(.

I've managed to solve the problem:

It may be useful for someone, so here it goes: (WIN XP)

1- Open PSU and then open the regional and language options. (do not change the keyboard to japanese while at PSU's window)

2 - Languages, then click on details

3 - Press Add on the settings tab (even though you might already have Japanese/IME installed)

4 - Add Japanese, you will notice that it will lag for a second and the IME icons won't show up anywhere.

5 - Restart your computer and its ready :)

I still have to figure out what caused it, but at least it is working right now.
