My dad does alot of junk jobs, and theirs a bunch of nice things he gets for free, or atleast gets paid to hual away.

just today he got a Windows XP:

Graphics card: Nvidia RIVA TNT2/TNT2 pro
Harddrive: 20GB
Processor: Intel Pentium III processor 996MHz
RAM: 256 MB ram
DVD/CD Rom: Sony DVD RW DW-G120A
OS: Windows XP

That's about all the info i can get on it.

:D so how old school is it. The date on it says 12:18am Monday, January 1601.

That computer is definitely of late 90s vintage. It might make a nice Linux server, if you have use for such a thing.

Not just graphics, but all direct hardware manipulation involved in multimedia-- graphics (both 3D and 2D), sound, human interface devices (mouse, keyboard, game controllers, etc), video playback and recording, and so on.

Literally speaking, a linux server is just a server running a Linux OS. As for what it can be used for... basically anything that calls for a server? (I mean, given that you have the software for said function) I'll wait for Meira or someone with more specific knowledge to add detail :wacko:

Actually, any computer with network functionality can, more or less, be a server. It's just that there are computers specifically built to function as servers.
