I figured that since all the cool kids are doing it, I might as well post my craptastic art as well. I use a medium sized, Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet with Paint Tool SAI for my digital needs. I have a working scanner now, but still trying to fiddle with the settings for it. For traditional, I use a 2H pencil then darken with a mechanical pencil and ink, then color with colored pencils.

Mostly be putting my Phantasy Star here. But if I really like something I did, I'll post it here as well. My deviantart page (http://mirror-alchemist.deviantart.com) will have pretty much everything there first. Including some things I'm not too sure I can upload here. nothing mature really...just pixel art with using other bases.

I can always try requests, but I'm best at simple female headshots

And no particular reason why I'm posting this. Probably to serve as a personal reminder where I came from. It's from 2006...

Well, I decided to go on ahead and post how I did it. I'm horrible at explaining stuff so bear with me? Oh and I'm using SAI terms because I love it so :3

And all of this would be in a group of it's own/Set

[spoiler-box]First I color the hair as usual. And lining the outline.

Then I make the locks by putting a new layer on "Shade" and set my ink pen brush to 0.7. I adjusted my opacity enough to make it be seen, but not too much

Then underneath that layer I make another layer to "Screen" and with a watercolor brush using white and for the more shine I used my airbrush (with a blur) You can also just make a separate layer just for that too. Adjusting the opacity so that it doesn't stand too much out.

And finally I use a darker shade than the hair color I'm using with a layer set to "Lumi&Shade" and with the watercolor brush again (I love that brush, other than the ink pen and pen brush) I brush it on parts to not make it so flat. Adjusted the opacity again. And I finally come up with...

Of course I'm gonna clean it up a bit before the final piece is finished. And if I really wanted to make it shiny, I'd use a layer on "Luminosity" with a brush (I use either airbrush or brush with blur at the edges) with white and do that. But I've been trying to not do that as much lately. Nothing wrong with it but, I wanted to try something new.

I think I used the Acrylic brush with one of the bristles setting. Shame you can't really see the bristles until your brush is bigger D:

Your PSO character looks odd though, like her right eye is all distorted.

What type of pencil do you use to sketch? They look so clean. I've been using a no.2 but I always get graphite everywhere.

Thanks for noticing that. I seem to have a problem with getting the eyes proportioned ^^;

As for sketching. I don't use any traditional materials. I use my computer in addition to Wacom Bamboo Fun graphics tablet (http://www.amazon.com/Bamboo-Medium-Tablet-Graphics-Software/dp/B000V9USC0/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1273266485&sr=8-9). From sketch to the coloring I use my computer.

I do use traditional media from time to time, but I have no scanner so I can't show those. My friend did scan some art for me a couple years ago, but I've changed my skill drastically since then. But maybe I can show them off just to compare then to now <.<. My lack of a scanner was actually the driving force behind getting into digital art. But I'm rambling on.

The second one in your last post has nice very nice lines :3 Do you scan it at a high DPI and then transform it down? The lines will look cleaner if you do so. I usually scan at 300-600 DPI and then shrink it down with "transform" and the lines get thinner and any spots/dust vanish.

That's exactly what I did XP. I'm not too worried about the spots though, since that's just my guide for when I color it.

Ah I see, I never ink my pencil sketches anymore. I just draw quick sketches, create a new layer on SAI/PS and re-draw it. I should try playing around with traditional media, haven't used my big 'ol bag of color pencils for almost two years x.x.. In traditional news, I got Staedtler fineline sketch pens (from .1 to .7mm) and a 12pk of Prismacolor verithin colored pencils. Dammit they cost a bit but they are a dream to work with. One day Imma by a 24/32 pack of Prismacolors I swear *shakes fist*

Yay for traditional tools :wacko: ehehe.. Yes.. It's pretty expensive! And way to many choice. Formy color pencils I now use 24 watercolor pencils from Faber Castell. But as long as you got the basic color you are good to go!

Wow nearly a month since I last posted.

But yeah, as stated in my DA journal a while back, I'm taking a hiatus with doing my art all out due to the place I work at getting into its hectic months. Leaving me very tired on my days off. From now until Dec-Jan. I'll still draw and what not. Just don't expect constant updates. Especially digital works. Unless between now and then I somehow get a laptop that can use my tablet so that I can draw in my room instead of out in the living room. (psst. Don't count on it)

Traditional is maybe, I'll still need to go out in the living room to scan, but I can draw in my room.

Ohhh so nice and soft. Her figure is almost transparent, but it's a nice contrast with her dark hair n.n You're getting better at drawing heads in size with their body. Guuud job!
