View Full Version : What was the hardest mission?

Seeing as we won't really be getting any more of these...
What do YOU think is/was the hardest mission in the game?

And that is, to actually do WELL in, not just muddle through it with a bad grade and tons of deaths. It could be hard for good reasons OR bad ones, it doesn't matter. Team or solo, story or regular. It could be hard because it was a real challenge, or simply because it's cheap and lame, or because it's dumping on your chosen class.

I nominate:
Magashi Plan-
Hard for all the right reasons. Devilishly clever traps & tricks throughout. Monster pairings that are truly challenging to any class without cheaping one out. How will you defeat the carriguine across the hall? What about the little wall in the Barfal Bragga room? It took me several tries to get through this, but each time you'd see something to do better on if you died. Lacked cheap deaths most of the time as well. Even after beating it, it was cool to keep going back as it dispensed rares, EXP and excitement.

Brighter Day 2-
This one is hard for all the WRONG reasons. The dialogue says 'dont hurry' but then it's timed. They throw in monsters who love to attack the clock, and not you, wasting your time more than anything else. Gaozoran vanishes! Appears at edge of own range forcing itself to respawn! DPS doesn't mean anything if the guy won't even show.
Two words: Escort Mission (Karen can't die)
Anti-helpful NPCs who you have to babysit decrease the fun while upping the difficulty (stand infront of megid turret while fiddling with their weps)
The second half of this!
Where the hfil did that difficulty come from? If you can't defeat a 20,000x normal HP carriguine, two more spawn within seconds guarenteeing to murder Karen. NOTHING else in all of story was ever this hard...nor even any other mission I found. It makes Fakis/Falz & any other boss look like a push-over/anti-climactic junkpile.

Also Possible-
Lightening festival bonus missions that were done room by room with each one getting harder. Can't judge too well here because getting a good team to do it zillions of times would make a difference in the precieved difficulty.

So what's your opinion? What's hardest and why?

Hard to say in my opinion. Usually no matter what mission it is, there is always some class that can do it way easier than the others due to resistances. (usually fighters, sometimes a gunner, rarely a techer towards later end non JP servers)

At first I thought Brighter Day 2 was hard, until I switched to FM for it and it was a breeze as long as I watched Karen's health and used some Stars.

are we doing the hardest mission now or the hardest mission at the time it came out? if its right now im gonna have to say Brighter Day 2 just for trying to keep karen alive. If we are going but when it came out it would be Lab Recovery, the end ( the room of doom ) was awsome with megis spitting jarba and Polavohra and their ton of HP if i remember correct the level cap was 80 and no AOTI so some PA's were not avaliable and eveyone had crappy a-rank low lv pa's and if you died it cost you the s-rank...I miss the good ol' days

Solo Fighmaster time attacking Protector's Alpha+ Degahna/Dimmagolus route for many wrong reasons...getting an ideal time required precision Jabroga timing, ridiculous equips (or slightly making up for it with twice as many unit swaps), back-to-back good bosses (both of which already have horrendous rates to have a friendly pattern), and even down to where zeroes mattered....WRONG REASONS -_-

I'd disagree. I soloed Lab Recovery when it first came out as a fortetecher and not once did I need to go out for scape dolls. On the other hand, soloing "Seed Awakened" as a fortetecher when it first came out was a 5 hour journey with 284 deaths (that's not including my poor 450 PM).

Back in the day before the meseta hack(all the hacking for that matter) and the lvl l cap was 50. Hive. only like 10 ppl ran it cuz it was pure death lol. my team we were always there. and then ppl started complaining about how hard things were and they ruined the game :/

Yeah, HIVE back in the day was nasty. I remember runs of SEED Awakened S could take an hour and up to finish.

No-one has nominated Bladed Legacy? I'd argue that the Magashi room at the end is pure evil. That's one mission where the party frequently warps back to the shop to stock up on scapes before the final room, because you are guarenteed to have a few deaths.

What else... as people suggested, HIVE missions used to be really killer. Way back in the day, the Moatoob Firebreak mission was really challenging, IIRC.

I'd also argue a couple of the party missions are "hard", in the stupid, unfun way.

I consider Magashi Plan at around the same level of pre-map nerf Desert Goliath. The one with the spawns of 3 Grinna Bete C in each area.

As for Firebreak, the only two I ever had a problem with completing were Moatoob, Scorched Valley A, and Parum, Burning Garden A. The others were relatively easy.

Only thing I remember being difficult on the Parum ones was S ranking the first one.

Burning Garden was the one with the deluge of Gol Dova at the end. The first one was just Shagreece and Seed Vitace IIRC.

The first one wasn't a hard mission itself, but I remember it being quite difficult to get the like 3 minute requirement to get an S in it.

Her Secret Mission s2. It is easy if you have the right team but nearly impossible if you have idiots. I love this mission but nobody runs it anymore. :-(.

The most challenging mission for me was "A Brighter Day A 2." Unfortunately, it was challenging for all the wrong reasons. With the way jobs are currently balanced, only Fighmaster, Gunmaster, and Protranser have any decent odds of beating it. If you are a techer, you're going to have to switch classes to get S-Rank. Being forced to escort Karen only makes things worse. It took far too many runs to clear that mission simply because Karen was stupid or happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
