Today I finally received my eagerly awaited Battlestar Galactica soundtrack that I ordered from Amazon US. I live in Germany, so it took a while to get here (almost 3 weeks). That's okay, as the Easter holidays probably slowed it down as expected, anyway.

So I am opening the package containing all 7 CDs (6+1 Caprica Soundtrack) and see that the CDs are seeming to have some sort of a gangbang, or at least that is what it looks like, as all of them are squeezed together wrapped in a foil tighter than should be healthy.
So surprise? All of the CD cases were partly broken, one of them fell into two pieces when I opened it and almost all of them were lacking those little things in the middle that keeps the CDs at its place. The guy wrapping the stuff in the foil was probably a cylon.

The CDs seem to be okay with one of them having a little scratch, but I really am quite pissed right now. On top of it the foil gangbang was free to hurl in the gigantic cardboard it was in, and I dont think cardboxes are handled all that well.

I do not want to return them, I just am frakking mad right now and especially very, very disappointed in Amazon US. I just gave Amazon Germany a thumbs up two weeks ago for delivering a DVD the perfect way, but this time around they will get another piece of my mind.

I'd totally return them and have it done correctly. You could always toss all of the tracks on your computer so you won't be without the music during that time.

Definitely return them. However, if you do need to ship them back, you might be waiting a while. The recent volcano activity in Iceland is blowing ash all over Europe, and most flights are cancelled because of it.

Even overseas shipping shouldn't get damaged in most situations though, so definitely look into a refund or replacement.

What Artea said.

That's pretty unacceptable.

If it was shipped directly from Amazon.com and not a vendor that they don't approve of/allow fulfillment-free domestic shipping total, they usually have really good customer service.

I reported something being a week late to ship, as it was a pre-order ahead of time that should have shipped by then, and got $5 credit. Software that wouldn't work due to no fault of my own or my PC, they offered up to 30 days for return refund.

I just got a refund the other day from Amazon about a reduction in shipping (or something about tariffs) from Amazon the other day. It was from Amazon and not one of the used / individual sellers though. I agree with Hayabusa on that point. Individual vendors can be hit or miss.

You...bought music?
On topic:Return it for sure. That is unacceptable from such a well known online shop like Amazon. Good luck with this.

On-topic: Definitely get in touch with Amazon or the vender (whichever is appropriate). I've had good experiences in both situations, and they'll usually be willing to work something out with you.

Not everybody feels so entitled that they think they shouldn't have to pay for things they want.[/spoiler-box]

That's amazon US' new eco packing.

Send it back with an angry email and they should reship it to you. If you don't want to deal with it then torrenting my be with in the legal limits if you actually own it. But it seems like if you went through the trouble to get physical disks, then damn it, you should get some in good condition.

Sending back is something I definitely want to avoid, since I had to pay 20 Euro (around 23 $) customs for this package and would have to do so again if they send me replacements, which has not really anything to do with Amazon. I highly doubt that they would cover these costs.

CD cases are not hard to replace, so I would just like to get a small price reduction for the inconvenience.
Thank you all for your suggestions.

I would really like to deal with this via phone, but calling an American number might be more expensive than I'd like as I live in Germany. Plus I am not that fluent in English. So I guess a mail will have to do.

Even though it's kinda not the same, when I bought some parts for my pc, the memories weren't working properly. I had to send them back to the store (through UPS) and when they sent me some new memories they weren't working properly as well. Sent those back too and they finally sent me some good ones.
Both of the times I sent the memories back, the store paid the costs of the transport. Dunno if Amazon also does that though. x:
