Just recently hopped on the JP servers (finaly) and was wondering which uni has the most english speaking/ Us-EU server players on?

(let the bash fest begin :-()

Number 1, because is usually the one you spawn when logging in when you are Free Courser (maybe if you are to land on 9-16 server, you are redirected to 1 because of being of the free course). Welcome! ^^

Because the US PC/PS2 population, while small, is strongly addicted to PSU :p

US PC/PS2 had the plug pulled, odds are if we want to seriously continue playing PSU, we're better off on the JP servers.

I enjoyed the JP server for about 30 minutes, then went back to the far superior NA server and haven't looked back or missed it, lol.

While it was nice to see new content, it lacked the ability to have a coherent encounter with other players, seeing as I didn't speak Japanese, and english players were far and few between.

I wouldnt say the NA server is "superior" lol, but I guess thats your opinion.

I honestly never had to really chat in PSU, even in the US servers. For the most part, most random people don't talk (even sometimes on the 360 server).

Annnd some JP players really do try to communicate with ya, its kinda cute. :D

If you guys go online, use the online status feature to label yourself either with your PSO-world username, or anything that will let us know that you're not moon people.

From my experience there's quite a number of English speakers.
You'll know when you see :3 or XD or something like that.

Press F1, go to the community tab(コミュニティー) and it's the last option. It's labeled オンラインステータス.

The text you put in will appear above your character name.

If you guys go online, use the online status feature to label yourself either with your PSO-world username, or anything that will let us know that you're not moon people.Actually, don't do this, unless you want random JP players reporting you on 2chan and consequently never having anyone buy from your shop ever again (also, possibly risk banning, since it seems they're starting to report particularly obnoxious non-JP players to ST). Same goes for talking outside of team chat or mail in populated areas.

So what should we do? The english speaking community should we run out of the JP server :-P

Ffuzzy-Logik
May 8, 2010, 07:32 AM
No, you should just organize meetings via a forum such as this one, exchange cards, and then talk through mails or party chat within the game.

xBULLYDOGG
May 8, 2010, 08:02 AM
So even when we're playing on the JP servers we still have certain pety-rights that we are not allowed. Sounds familiar.

Ffuzzy-Logik

So even when we're playing on the JP servers we still have certain pety-rights that we are not allowed. Sounds familiar. The Japanese themselves very rarely speak in the lobbies, and they general tend to find people who do so to be very annoying. Why? Some weird cultural bull I guess, but remember, you're guests on their server. You technically shouldn't be there at all. No reason to be senselessly disrespectful and draw attention to yourself.

xBULLYDOGG
May 8, 2010, 12:39 PM
Yeah uhh you're telling that to the wrong guy. I may be a guest but equal rights takes a strong role for me in gaming. If Bully wants to talk in public, Bully's gonna talk in public, not matter your country or server.

DarK-SuN
May 8, 2010, 01:09 PM
And it's that blind mentality to cultural differences that will get every importer banned down the line if you all don't relax in the JP server.
I'm liking my jp account very much and do like they do to not attract attention, start doing the same for all our importer sakes.

I kind of agree with this...especially if you are paying.

JP players should shut up and change their pissy-pants. We wouldn't do that to them on a US server, and anyone who would is an idiot. I was actually kind of considering trying out JP but now I'm not going anywhere near it.

Resanoca
May 8, 2010, 01:31 PM
This is more or less like how people treat a rare mission. I usually take the people and do not call the end drops. Some others don't have to take the group and/or just call the end drops. Because its their rare mission. As fucked as it it... You have to either go with it or get the hell out. I'm sorry, but that's just how it is. If a riot is started between the importers and Japanese and Sega of 'JAPAN' gets put in this-- Honestly, who will win and who will get kicked off most likely?

Powder Keg
May 8, 2010, 01:39 PM
As long as no rules are being broken, I doubt that will happen. As long as you aren't spamming/harassing, being disruptive, etc. Talking to other players in the lobby isn't disruptive. Spamming a trade list/Looking for this or that like you see in 360 however I would consider extremely disruptive.

However, they will get harassed and literally get listed in public so other players will not trade/buy from shops/not partner up/blacklist that player.

When it comes down to it--it's still Sega's server, not the players'.

I don't care. It's not blind mentality to cultural differences what-so-ever otherwise there would be no such thing as public chat for the game. You don't see everyone in Japan sending text messages to everyone at a bar or club or whatever to solely talk to them, you see them actually publicly talk. I'm VERY relaxed in the JP server myself and have NEVER be confronted from talking in public. And why should we act differently anyway. I meet a few Japanese players on my servers and when they talk publicly with their friends, I think nothing of it but what I should. COMMUNICATION. I've never heard of anyone getting banned from any social game for talking, and I refuse to believe it's a motive on the Japan servers.

I see it as a library. If you're gonna talk openly on the server, then do so quietly and without "disturbing" the other people. Basically: use restraint.

I like being on JP, and I don't want to suddenly get banned because SoJ decided to pay attention to the vocal minority who are actually taking names and IDs of importers. On the same token--considering the past couple of days I've been logged in-- I've seen JP people talk openly in the lobby (and this is through various lobbies, not just Uni 1), so I don't think it's a huge no-no to shut up and keep it to yourself.

If anything, I would like for the importers to keep it minimal or move to an unused lobby/universe or something to have massive open conversations just out of simple respect as being a guest, but what I like for others to do isn't going to be considered by other people, so I'm not going to shun anyone for doing what ever they feel like.

Almost all of the Japanese players welcome importers with open arms. Everyone I have met has been really kind and casual toward me. Most even make an effort to talk to me in english. ^^;

I have had many conversations with japanese players that have lasted for hours.

As long as no rules are being brokenRead the JP version's terms of service. It is only to be played by people living in Japan. So yeah, rules are being broken by us just being there. This is why we should try to keep a low profile.

And keep in mind, it is only a tiny portion of the JP playerbase that is upset about importers, and most of them probably have absolutely no problem with us being there. However, those that do have a problem with it are getting pretty vocal about it, so there's no reason to risk it just because you were too lazy to hit F9 and use party chat.

Oh, and I'll be the first to admit that whatever cultural factor leads them to favor being quiet in lobbies is pretty silly, but that's not an excuse to be disrespectful of it, especially when we are their guests.

Powder Keg
May 9, 2010, 12:47 AM
That I was not aware of.

Well, that sucks. You folks oughta behave, because in this circumstance you're all lucky they're not enforcing that rule.

PepperCat
May 9, 2010, 07:13 PM
They like our Guardians Cash contributions WAAAAAY too much to enforce the "not from Japan" rule...

Besides if they DID a mass ban, I think most of the importers are smart enough to reverse ALL Guardians Cash charges from their credit cards.

I don't understand... if we aren't supposed to be on the JP server.. why didn't they have a regional IP ban like other games do? I really think it's just in the ToS (if it is... but you know... it's in Japanese.. right? lol) because they can't provide support to non-japanese speaking people.

PepperCat
May 9, 2010, 09:51 PM
Yeah I'm led to believe the same, seeing as how Espio or someone he knew actually wrote in for support on PSU US/EU as we weren't getting any updates but actually wrote the letter in Japanese.

The SoJ response is that they don't support that region... lol.

I think its safe to assume that we are ok for the moment, just don't expect any support from SoJ if you write your e-mails in English.

Ffuzzy-Logik
May 10, 2010, 05:39 AM
I don't understand... if we aren't supposed to be on the JP server.. why didn't they have a regional IP ban like other games do?Because this is SEGA and their incompetence knows no bounds.

No, the chance of SEGA banning anyone is almost nil, but that is still no excuse for annoying JP players when we aren't technically supposed to be there at all.

So I'm about to try free course to see how playable this is in japanese. Some earlier posts made me worried though about being reported so I need advice on naming my character. Is it common to use the english alphabet in names or should I use katakana? Tell me what you think.

Ffuzzy-Logik
May 12, 2010, 10:15 AM
Many Japanese have character names in English, don't worry about that.

And don't worry too much about what I said. Just don't talk excessively in open lobbies and you'll be fine.

Well this is a great turn of events and feel free to post whatever you want round here just dont be rude and thanks for the many Mannerism Tutorial sessions hehe also Im thinking of quiting psu again even though im on free course, anyway to cancel that or some kind of subscription cancel thingy?

And as for being "guests" on thier servers Im on both sides of the fields YES we should show some respect then again. Im not trying to ignite a war or revoltion Im just tosing my few cents in. I somewhat agree with bully but again WE AINT spose to be there atleast show a teeny tiny bit of respect and and make your country look good ya know?

Dont be a moron and look bad thus gaming commute wise making your country look bad -__-;

You don't have to care about it. Just do as you please!
that thread in 2ch is just like Rants: Dead horse Society (http://www.pso-world.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21)

Mostly, a little group of JP people is uncomfortable about bad behavior from some certain foreigner (eg. people who don't read comment when joining party, Chinese gold farmer etc, chat spam on lobby etc.), Thus, this stupid group think that all importers = same manner.

it seem that those people has problem with lina mainly.

For the banned part, no worry, in the past, a GM saw me chat in the lobby and came to talk with me. He tried to speak English too and very polite. Well, main part he want to tell me is that "welcome to PSU ".
(they want money, you don't have to worry about banned unless you have hack program)

just one thing I would recommend is to not do anything bad there.
