Well depends what class your playing. Guard is a pretty useless stat. It takes 5 DFP to reduce 1 damage..so 80 mats of guard would give you 16 dmg reduction. 100 mats in guard would give you 20 damage reduction and so on. imo, If you are taking too much dmg it would almost be better to use EVP mats, or just kill the monsters faster :P Dead monsters can't hit you.

The best is Hp mats for ranged attack (ranger + force) and EVP mats for hunters.

Yeah it really is, Personally I would just use POW mats on a hunter and Ranger, and Mind mats on a Force, but I just like killing stuff fast.

Personally my hunter have 70 POwer, 4 hp and 6 EVP.

My HUnewearl has all EVP mats, can't kill what you can't hit...LOL

iirc, 20 guard mats reduced 5 damage, so... 5 decreases damage slightly more than 1...

Either way dfp is still useless. What's dead can't hit you. And Neona. Hunewearls have amazing EVP so why not add more :P.

Yeah EVP is a nice stat to put on HUnewearls for sure. My friend's barely gets hit. He's sitting at like 832 EVP :/ rofl

You're better off going hp over guard. I don't think guard reduces damage from those annoying elemental blasts that a lot of the machines fire at you.

From what I heard, HP. Although it sort of depends, as some have said, Newman Hunters do great with EVP. I honestly used guard mats over the other two, but I'm not gonna reset it any time soon. I only used 10 guard mats, and maxing my mats cost a fortune in PDs. Really not worth the effort for me. But yeah, use HP mats, or EVP if the class would do well. This would be kinda easier if you gave a class. Just a breakdown, probably wrong, but whatever:
Any Cast: HP (Their EVP just is really bad, and more HP means faster HP regen).
Human Rangers or Hunters: Not really sure here.
Newman Hunters: EVP, straight up.
Any Force: Don't use defensive mats unless you're going for some weird non-tech build. Your focus should be nuking the heck out of everything from a distance, plus you have great resta to make up for it. So just go pure MST, again, unless you're using a non-tech-spam build.
Yeah, that's probably wrong, but it's as good as I can figure.

Human Rangers: Mats into ATP, as it's shiftable when you go online. Put Divine Swifts into slots. 625+ EVP and Jellen can make them comparable to EVP HUnewearls.
Forces: Techspammers have a little freedom in this area due to being able to do alot of damage easily with little effort because FO weapons are really big on MST (It's not hard to go over 1000 MST without mats). I'd put mats into HP to reduce chances of 1-hit KOs; EVP could prove useful on occasion but put it into slots.
Cast: No EVP, ever. ATP or bust. Defensively, go for HP.

Oh yeah. I made a HUcast tank a while ago.... His max HP is 1142 I believe, his monomates heal 350+, and I cant remember how much HP re regains... He's pretty much invincible.
