Really stupid if you think about it.. I mean the excuse of the parents is that they use toys to sell their unhealthy food to children..

let me state that again a little more clearly..

They (McDonalds) are using toys.. (cheap plastic gimmicks.) to sell unhealthy food.. (Your choice of a burger and fries, chicken nuggets, or apple slices, low fat milk, and salad.) to children (who obviously have control of their parents money..)

I have a 5 year old and a 4 year old..

They know what McDonalds looks like. They know what a Happy Meal is...

they don't control where we go to eat.. I could feed my children Manure.. So is it the Manure merchants fault cause he made the bag of crap look cool with mickey mouse on it? Not that he would.. terrible marketing strategy... but you understand what I'm saying...

Basically to start this law.. it took a bunch of parents, outraged at the company to get together and admit.. "We have no authority over our children." We don't want the government to tell us what to eat. But we want to tell restaurants what to sell..

PS: No Manure Merchants were harmed in the creation of this post... Hopefully..

I read the article and saw the vid last night too. Good lord what form of stupidity is this? Don't they think the factor of children getting obese is based upon the parent's decisions on what to feed them?! And McDonalds have been making some healthy subsitutes in place of the happy meal. Having small salad and apples, even milk. I hope this gets revoked at some point. If these people are so concerned with their children's weight... I dunno, maybe try giving your children better alternatives to eat? Not force a multi-million dollar company to change their ways of providing a small way of giving out food since the beginning of the 70s. Bribing children with toys for unhealthy food?! Give me a fucking break.

That's the era we are in as it stands. It's the era of, "It can't possibly be my fault from my decisions that has caused the situation that I am in. It obviously must be [Insert Subject Name Here]'s fault!" When it's so easy to get a lawyer (or dozen) to fight for oneself to remove accountability it is just a case of the lazy taking the easy way out yet again.

That's only in one county in Southern California, and yes, it's ridiculous.

It seems people and accountability do not mix.

People and fingerpointing on the other hand...

Good idea, I don't want my kids eating that tiny meal, they need the full-sized one.

About time.
Parents need to take responsibilty for what they feed their children.
I guess they failed, and the state had to take the wheel.
=/ What is this world coming to.
"Whats a potato?"
"You know.. French fries"
"oh, ok"

Eh, that's probably gonna get struck down in court. Partly because its silly, partly because McDonalds can afford better lawyers.

This level of stupidity reminded me of the old lady who sued Mc D's for her coffee being hot. :l

They do: They make you look cool or forget about your pathetic problems for a couple hours(then you wake up the next morning with more problems because you were incompetent and can't remember what you did for the previous 7 of them)

well it is mc Donalds falt for making bad food! how dare them feed ups delicious food that clogs arteries in kids! those fiends! they need to burn the the darkest part of hell with Satan and his demons! and shame on them and other so called "coffee shops" that sell boiling hot coffee and don't tell people its hot! IT SHOULD BE LABELED! I should sue all the car manufacturers for making cars go so fast and appealing to adolescent boys to make them want to steal and make rap videos to afford them. and I should sue OP for making this post and angrying up my blood!

I think the real issue hear is that for about 3 bucks you get a tiny burger (or not enough chicken nuggets), not enouch fries, and a tiny soda. That's a rip off. I think they should ban the Happy Meal everywhere on those grounds alone!

If it were up to me, mcdonalds would be no more... That place is evil, however... I'm in your corner about the parents that buy thier kids this shit over the course of 11-12 years and have the nerve to blame mcdonalds. NO..., it's your fault, limit the amount of fast food your kids eat. Or yourself, lead by example dummy! I get pissed when I see people sue mcdonalds, when I was like 12-15 years old I used to sit with my mom and see a case on tv: "today some guy is suing mcdonalds, why? He says micky d's food made him fat!" Me and my mom would laugh and I'd say: "heh heh heh... He's gonna loose" sure enough, they loose... Noone tells you to eat there! It's a choice! Not only that but big business keeps his foot on the tiny men, but that's for another show kids... Death to the golden arch!!! :)

Read up. Much more to the case than just hot coffee.

I cringed just reading that.

Anyway, HOW DARE THEY SELL TOYS WITH THEIR FOOD. And don't focus on the food, focus on the toys. As long as we take the toys out of the equation, the food will become healthier and less appealing. That'll learn'em.

Technichally that COULD be a valid point; considering when i was younger i went crazy trying to get these things http://cdn1.ioffer.com/img/item/207/393/96/o_Picture_002.jpg
til i eventually did get them, like 4-5 happy meals later.

If there are no cool prizes for kids; they wont seem as special anymore and probably wont be as demanding for kids to get their happy meals. Notice how in any HM commercial; the toys take the top focus.

I'm writing to my local senator that they should stop selling baseball cards with sticks of gum. Kids keep buying these awful sticks of gum so they can get the awesome baseball cards!

Wait, do they even sell baseball cards anymore?

Also, Sayara - in my experience, you can generally just ask them for the specific toy you want.

As ridiculous and asinine as the new regulation is, I find it difficult to work up any concern over the issue. I've come to harbor a certain contempt for McDonalds food and customers, so even if I am technically on McD's side from a dispassionate objective view - inside, I'm f'ckin lovin it.

You'll just have to waddle your fat ass down to the Dollar General and buy some dollar a dozen cheapie toys to cram in your little porklets junkfood carton to get them to shut up.
