((Hello all! Just recently remembered this site today, and the fact that it had rp boards/ fanfic areas. I've done forum roleplay and fanfics on other boards, so I figured I'd try my hand here as well. I like to keep my chapters somewhat short so they're easy to read, yet still interesting. Constructive criticism is welcome... keyword is constructive lol))
Chapter 1: A Strange Premonition
Logan stood completely still, his dark eyes wide as he tried to pick out anything in the haze about him. The mist seemed unnatural, obscuring everything from view. How had he even come to this place? He couldn't remember...
As if a switch had been thrown, the human turned and was surprised to see that he was now enclosed in a glass-bound, dusky hallway that would have looked right at home on a skyscraper in one of the legendary CAST cities. Constant streams of personal aircraft streamed past the skyway, the flare of their engines soon blending with the artificially-lit cityscape.
A crackling sound soon interrupted the young man's thoughts. Moments later, the snaps and pops repeated several times in succession, seeming to echo from the darkness of the building ahead of him. Being a former Guardian, he knew the clashing of photon weapons when he heard them. Without so much as a conscious thought, the youth began sprinting toward the source of the conflict, the thudding of his footsteps reverberating strangely through the causeway.
A few security doors later, Logan stood in what appeared to be a large, circular office, much like one would expect a rich company executive to own: the type that spanned an entire level of a building on its own and was filled with expensive furnishings. The window that encircled the entire room gave a clear panoramic view of the unfamiliar city outside, and the various lights that streamed in suddenly threw a violent scene before him into stark relief.
Two forms were engaged in a deadly dance, the furious blaze of their weapons bursting sharply into sparks each time the humming edges met. One of the combatants was obviously female, though Logan couldn't quite guess at her race. Wickedly-curved daggers hissed in an amethyst glow about her fists, singing a challenge to the form opposite her. The other figure looked like a tall human male, who was using his rather unique-looking crimson photon saber to slash aggressively at his opponent.
Their observer tried to shout for them to stop, but his mouth opened soundlessly, his body unresponsive. The conflict before him intensified quickly, with the female attempting to break through the mysterious man's guard in a series of blindingly-fast flurries with her daggers. Her superior agility blurred the luminescent blades into streaks of deadly light; however, each attack was effortlessly repelled. The nimble lithe fighter leapt back to gain some distance before launching into the air, the keening edges of her photon weapons plunging straight down.
Logan watched in horror as the blood-hued blade of her foe struck upwards in a perfectly aimed attack. The girl screamed in pain as the saber erupted from her back, a spray of dark fluid sparkled briefly before evaporating in the intense heat of the saber's carbuncle photons. As if considering a piece of meat, her attacker carelessly tossed her limp form onto a plush couch, the now-silent hilts of the daggers she had been holding clattering across the floor as they were dropped. The human suddenly found himself able to move, and was instantly at the critically-injured girl's side.
"Hey...hey!" he yelled, dropping to his knees beside her and gently rocking her still form. He could now barely see that she was a beast, one who looked even younger than he did. Her long dark hair clung limply to her chest and arms, and her feline ears were slowly drooping. Her closed eyes didn't even flutter at his shouts.
Before he could try again to wake the fallen female, Logan was startled by the deep laughter of the man who had impaled the Beast. His saber still hummed hungrily, its red light casting a sadistic glow on his bearded face. He didn't move, but simply stared at his victim...
The last thing Logan remembered was a flash of sharp teeth, a roar, and the most fearsome, rage-filled eyes he'd ever seen as he was slammed to the floor. His eyes snapped open. Above him, his bedroom ceiling swam in the cool blues of late night. Pushing himself to sit on the edge of his bed, the shaken man wiped the cold sweat from his face and rubbed his temples. What was that city, what had he seen? Who was that man? He sighed. Who was the girl?
