View Full Version : More hours=more rares?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the amount of hours you play affect how many rares you encounter? I know it was a theory in the DC days and would be happy indeed if someone else would share their views on the subject.

Doubt it. Well, other than the common sense approach which says the more hours you play the more chances for rares you'll have.

I think the chances are always the same but is common sense that as more you play more items you find. Another thing that makes think the chances increase with moe hours is the swlodown of lv up. From lv 100 to lv 110 is around the same exp of a lv up over lv 180. And at higher level more poerful the character is and more fast can clear the areas

Right the seemingly higher rare drop rate when you have more hours on a char is probably an illusion caused by you clearing the maps faster.

Correlation between hours logged and rares found doesn't mean casuation.
Although, I'm not willing to disprove any hypothesis :3.
Just nod your head and say that more hours means more attempts at trying dome unknown probability arameter of obtaining a rare :3...

I would guess that more hours means more chances mainly cause my fomar Lv151 gets better stuff than my racast 10something and 100hucast that i have been slaving though forest for a week.

Well The Only Way this will be solved is if someone just leaves there guy on for a large nu,ber of hours and even possibley max them out, which would be a big waste if it didnt work but what the helll you only once

Okay, how's this:

Phalanx - over 600 hours so far. Had to do around 75 VH mountain runs in order to obtain SPIRIT GARMENT (pre-FAMITSU days). Had to do around 100 CCA runs in order to get a Sinow Spigell drop. Dozens of Mines runs desults in 3 pds from a Sinow Blue. Over 50 Gal Gryphon kills for a red box.

Cytherea - Under 70 hours so far. Had to do 2 FAMITSU runs in order to obtain every mini-boss drop. Had to do 4 CCA runs in order to get a Sinow Spigell drop. First Mines run result in a Moola from a Sinow Blue. First Gal Gryphon kill nets a MAHU.

I don't know how, but with her luck, I just know my RAmarl will somehow find DNA one day.

Anyway, there you go. Side by side comparisions on hours and rares. Nothing I've seen indicates hours played is a major factor.

I remember back on PSOv1... Took me 900 hours to find my own Spread Needle -_-; The only "ultra-rare" I ever found on my own.

the hours business is a load of crap. with the exception of that magic rock moola my ramarl found last night, she hasnt had anything other than photon drops and the occasional combat drop in almost 25 hours. if it really is hours, then it must be the higher the hours, the less red boxes.

I don't really think there's anything to the 'more hours means more rares' in the strict sense that if you idle your character, and then go hunting there'll be red boxes galore. That just doesn't make sense.

In my experience, sometimes the game has major dry spells, and other times it just craps out loads of photon drops and other common rares (e.g. Final Impacts for Viridia). As far as I can tell, there isn't any known correlation for why the game does that. And this is coming from someone who's gotten red boxes (first a Holy Ray, and then an Asuka) from defeating Ultimate bosses for the first time. :S

Bottom line, the more critters you fight and defeat, the greater chance you have for finding a rare. Therefore it makes more sense to say the more monsters, more rares. Does that make sense?

i dont think its the time... but i thought that the map version affects the item drops... like in forest 1 theres many versions of it... meaning different start and end locations... i find that on one map.. i find more red handguns and while on another i find more crappy rares like victor axe or... silence claw..

The rare drop rate seems to make as much sense as the weather sometimes! (90 in April, frost in late May? last year) Just as with anything, keep plugging away at it and eventually you will see it all. I think it might have to do with time, but it varies. I think each character has its own little cycles...
