I'm a euro gamer and as I'm certain you guys know, PSO GC just game out like yesterday, but the problem is I've got an xbox too and a lot of my friends (who have broadband) are planning to get an xbox with xbox live next week. Since there is no date at all, (that I know of), for the release of the xbox version in europe should I wait or not for it and not play with my m8's or buy it for the gamecube and play now and then swtich to the xbox version when it is released ? This wouldn't be so much of a problem if the versions were exactly the same but apparently the xbox supports use of USB keyboards and of course the legendary speaky thingy. As I'm not prepared to hand out 80 quid for a stupid GC keyboard, thats not very good anyway, what do you suggest I do ?

Ya cause he only owns a Gamecube and, apparently, feels whatever he doesn't have sucks. PSO Xbox and GC are basically the same except with Xbox you have voice chat and if you want to use a Keyboard you don't haveta pay $80 for one. PSO Xbox is only a couple weeks out (March 22nd) so just wait... It'll be worth it.

It maybe til the 18th for you man, but for me Mr.UK it could be up to 3 to 6 more months and I don't know if I can resist the calling of PSO for that long http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Oh... Damn I thought you blokes in the UK got it around the same time we did. :/ Well if it's 3 to 6 months out just get PSO GC for now... I tried getting it to soften the wait for PSO Xbox but I found it to be too boring without a keyboard. And the offline split-screen sucks the big one. Actually, why don't you just get other games while you wait for PSO? .hack looks good, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 0, Xenosaga, Crimson Sea.... No use throwing away $150 just to play PSO for 3 months. PSO Xbox is definetly going to be worth the wait, mate. Just try to hold out! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

And to the other kid:

Xbox Live allows you to play any XB Live game online. With Gamecube you can only play PSO online. The Xbox version also comes with 2 free months (compared to 1 on the GC).

Cool cool http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif. I'll see if I can handle the wait. Well I did it for Tekken 3 http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

Not to beat a dead horse, but...

Of course, many of the GCN games coming out online will be completely fee-less. PSO is pay to play simply because Nintendo does not own the servers. Future games like...for example, Mario Kart or Smash Bros Online...are owned by Nintendo and have been announced to be free online. So if you hold out with Nintendo, you won't be paying for many games in the future anyway...

That and w/o Xbox live you wont get very far into PSO anyway...not in it at all.

And 3-6 months is pretty iffy...by the time that rolls around GCN will be established online. I would say hedge your bets and get a GameCube http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Anyway, just my 2 pesos.

Well, for what it's worth, Yuji Naka *did* say that the Europe version of XBOX PSO would be out before the end of March.

IMHO, the XBOX version does have some acute advantages over the GCN version...but the GCN version has one sure-fire advantage that the XBOX version has yet to match: It's out now! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Uh..where exactly are you getting your magical Nintendo online news?

Miyamoto has already said numerous times the following: Nintendo is still at a point where we don't see online games being successful as a business model at this point, so I don't think you can expect to see any serious look at online games at E3

And he's already said they thought about making Mario Kart Next online but decided "the kind of experience Mario Kart delivers would be very difficult to pull off online."

It breaks down like this for people

If you plan on using your XBOX Live account for things other than PSO...go ahead and buy the XBOX version.

If you're thinking about buying Live solely for PSO, go to the gamecube version.

You can get pso then get the fixed version and pay less or get the xbox version play with friends. the fixed version doesnt have dupes at all while..*looks at "site deleted" and sees that psoX has been ruined also* i hate to be a fanboy, but you can get it now or later.

Rune Edit: Do not post that link here again.

I'm not really sure if that such method will actually work on the final release. I seriously doubt Microsoft would go ahead and release the same exact version as the pirated one floating around (especially since if they've delayed it) .

And you need a modded xbox, and with the upgrades microsoft is doing to Live (I had to download one a couple of days ago), they're keeping a tight grip of illegal code sleezing its way onto the system.

Finally, they dont mention if it'll work online.

I highly doubt this method will work on the final release. I'm not claiming PSOX will be completely cheat free...but these methods are based on the then final release of the game.

That's a dumb reason. Especially since anyone can still get any damn weapon they please on GameCube version. And Yes there is still dupe methods that work.

If your friends play Xbox version, get the Xbox version. It'll be better and more enjoyble that way. If you want to play with Nintendo people and pay 70$ for a keyboard, be my guest but it's not worth it compared to Xbox's with live chat support AND keyboard support. So um yeah....

Just because you don't like xbox is a terrible reason. I don't like gameCube , but hey i still got PSO for it cuz im a pso freak. i'd MUCH ratehr have PSO for Xbox anyday

Im sure that ms wouldnt release a version like that, but one question comes to mind: "What about corruption?" i've heard about the xbox hard drives going bad or getting corrupted (something i heard from way back). I dont want to go thru another corruption ever.

you know i actually feel dumber after reading your post. Look there both the same freakin version, except one has voice chat a keyboard and supports HDtv. get off of it man, there both gonna have dupers.

anyways i think you should go for the one thats most convenient. if your gonna be playing various games online, get XBL but the you have to wait something like 2 months, for the Xbox version of pso.
if your only gonna get pso, then go with the Cube version.

I am strongly suggesting to the moderators that this thread be locked. I left gamefaqs.com because of close-minded fanboys, morons with no grammar/spelling/punctuation skills, and completely stupid and pointless arguements; all of which are ever so present in this thread. Maybe I should leave PSO World as well. In any case, I urge the people taking part in this childish arguement to stop before they make themselves look even worse.

You know, it is sad that fanboyism is as bad as I see it.

This topic had gotten WAY to out of hand. If you people want to completely bitch and moan about the systems you do not have or cry about one company that you do not like, go to GameFAQs. Argue to your hearts content there...but you will not do this stupid fanboy thing here. The way I see it Fanboy shit=really bad spam.

Now can we try to giving more intellectual reasons from this point on? If I see one more fanboy post, this thread will be locked.

As for the topic on hand, I say get the XBox version as your friends are getting it. That should be a good enough reason to get it...but it might be a good idea to see if there are any games for XBox Live you want to aid in sealing the deal. However, the GC version will be a good choice either. There are plenty of people to find and game with in that version.

Both support Progressive Scan mode, and the GC has the one up that it has dialup compatiblity, so more people can play.

What end of march 2004 it wont even be out in the U.S. by the end of march. If you love PSO get the GC version...If you can wait get it for the xbox personally if PSO had been out for the box first i MIGHT have considered buying the box for that and Panzerdragoon but as it hit my fiathful GC first I didnt have to mak ethat decision. The keyboard situation isnt that bad. If you are really incluned you can find an adapter or find a site that has the ascii one for like 70

edit: had more to say, came off unnecessarily harsh on the box

I personally abandoned Gamecube PSO because I didn't want to use an importer to get a keyboard or scramble to get an adapter kit from one of their auctions and then cobble the thing together. That said, I got an Xbox to play other games I really like, not really thinking about PSO. I can't stand playing PSO online without a keyboard or SOMETHING to communicate with, but I'm looking forward to some voice chat to be able to talk in the middle of a heated battle. It's not an option of course if you don't have broadband, but in my case I definitely want the Xbox version. The Gamecube version was sort of viewed as a failure by Nintendo, which sort of shows when you see there's not very many modem/broadband adapters around, and nobody's planning to make a US keyboard. If you want to play single player, of course, it doesn't matter which one you use. I personally don't like it nearly as much by myself, but to each his own. I guess there's some remote possibility that PSO for Xbox will run better in the 4-player offline mode than the Gamecube one did, and there's a remote possibility you might be able to save more than one screenshot, but neither of these are crucial, just nice ideas.

But the original poster here was thinking about a Europe version, which probably would mean importing if they wanted the XBox game, so that's another sticky issue. I'm not sure what the best wisdom is on that, getting the GC and importing a keyboard, or getting the Xbox and importing the game. Does XBox have some sort of region coding or not? If you end up needing a modchip to play the US Xbox version on a European Xbox, you're screwed if you want to play on Live because of their modchip protection.

There is a "PSO Xbox Info Thread" that you might want to check out. But here's some things I thought you might be interested in:

Voice Chat -
You can hear and talk to only the 8 people closest to you, while in a lobby. So, no need to worry about hearing 32 gamers compete to talk. Also, you can always mute the headset.

Xbox Live Features -
You get all the standard XB Live features: Feedback (Tell MS about bad players, Cheaters, etc), Friends list that spans the whole XB Live network (Allows you to send game invites to others no matter where on XB Live they may be.)

Dolby 5.1 and HDTV support -
I don't know if the GC version has this, but the Xbox version supports both Dolby 5.1 surround and High Definition TV.

okay question 1: do you own a game cube yet?
question 2 do you own a xbox yet?
after awnsering those questions
can you wait for it to arrive down the line?
if you cant wait and have a cube go gcpso
if you can and have the xbox plus broadband and are willing to pay 2 sets of fee's a subscription charge and the hl get psox

if you have a game cube and an xbox i would say get both. the hl for the cube is monthly, so you can cancel it when you want and having both gives you the option of playing with both fan groups http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
