This is probably a stupid question, but how do you trade items? and is it impossible to drops items on online mode?

In the demo you go to the cafe I believe it was called. Should let you trade though I don't have the full game yet and it wasn't available in the demo.

It is impossible to drop items online except in Challenge Mode. You can drop items in Challenge Mode but you don't bring anything out of Challege Mode with you so it doesn't work for trading.

You can trade some items via the machine just inside the entrance of the cafe. You must first exchange partner cards with the person you want to trade with and then both of you must be using the machine. The items you can trade are rather limited so you really can't just hand off items to another player. If you want to hand items off to an alt, just drop it in your storage box and you can withdraw it with the alt.
