So I was involved in a "debate" (and I use the word loosely), with someone complaining that the Phantasy Star Online series is significantly worse than the Phantasy Star series because:

-All the characters are children.
-It's too colorful and cheery.
-Everyone is happy.
-It's not serious enough.
-There are too many absurd characters.
-There are "sex robots" in PSO.

Clearly this was the most accurate description of Phantasy Star Online that has ever been written.

Children in PSO that I can think of... offhand, a quest or two has them as clients.

Lets not forget that the game opens with the deaths of thousands of people. (I never got the impression Pioneer 1 was a small group)

Clearly I'm playing the wrong PSO.

Well, I pointed that out, but he would hear nothing of it.

He also calmly explained to me that despite the fact that the original Phantasy Star series

-Features a child as a main character
-Is far more colorful than PSO
-Is much more light-hearted
-Has a talking cat and half-naked catgirls as main characters

that these were all exceptions to the rule, and it was okay for the original series to do all this solely because it was the original series.

You can't see me right now, but I've got my head in my hands.

You mean its not resting in a face-shaped indentation in your desk?

But I have to say, this person has clearly never played PSO. Of all the games I've played by SEGA, it has by far the most serious plot. (Second place goes to Skies of Arcadia)

Clearly I'm playing the wrong PSO.Well, I wasn't acknowledging that there were "sex robots" in PSO. I was pointing out why he would complain about "sex robots".

This is one person you can let go back to playing only Final Fantasies.

PStar is just way too good for them.

Its not the game, its you.

Lets see... hero used as research material: Olga Flow.
Computer run amok kills everyone in the mines: Vol Opt
Daughter of the guy in charge of Pioneer 2 gets nommed by Dark Falz.
Falz kills EVERYONE from Pioneer 1. I mean, really. Everyone. Is killed. In the opening sequence.

I mean... who the hell... this...

This is what's wrong with people today... /tangent

This person's complaints correspond to just about every JRPG. Perhaps he needs to re-evaluate his taste in games, or at least, what he's willing to observe about them, hmm~?

He was actually complaining that PSO is "too Japanese," not like the original Phantasy Star games.

I was like - "Dude, if you want to complain about everybody being teenagers and whiny and very 'anime'-inspired, feel free to point at PSU.

And the characters DO look like kids in PSZero!"

But somehow he didn't care about those games, and was only able to focus his anger on PSO.

Not a friend; just some internet guy. Treating people on the internet like mature adults was my first mistake. Never again!

Agreed.

When do we play "Wheel of Banning"?

Every time there's a 5th Monday in a month. Gotta relieve the stress, somehow.
