It's not a rare enemy. It's just a different elemental variation of the Mericarol. It shows up rather frequently in Maximum Attack 2, as does the Merikle.

It replaces Mericarol. Just sometimes Mericarol will be a Mericus, or Merikle.

I guess you could classify these are rare monsters now because there are a few confirms for their drops.

Those drops are different than that of a Mericarol.

Assuming that it really is accurate that they drop different items (I'm skeptical, but open-minded about it - one chart isn't proof enough for me, though), that's no reason to classify them as rare. The whole definition of rare is something that is difficult to come by. The Mericarol variations have all shown up everytime I've gone through the Jungle in Maximum Attack 2. That doesn't sound rare to me. Sure they're uncommon, but then so are Sinow Reds in the Ultimate Mine.

The same could be said of a fair amount of items in this game. Most people see a red box and instantly refer to it as rare. The thing is that most 9-star items are fairly easy to find, and really are just uncommon instead of rare. And it should be pointed out that 4th-tier E1&2 MAGs (ie. Sato, Diwari, etc.) are NOT rare. They're easy to make, you don't have to search for them at all, and they're all over the place (many people have them). It's better to refer to a red box item as a special item rather than a rare item.

Don't mind me, I'm just getting overly technical. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

They are not rare monsters - they are quest monsters. Quests have to ask for these monsters to appear - they won't appear on their own.

There are 5 such monsters:

Merikle
Mericus
Del Lily
--secret--
--secret--

I didn't put the names of the last 2 since I don't want to spoil a secret. Del Lily is already known from various pictures from the Tokyo Game Show. Also, Japanese people noticed that "deruriri-" becomes "DelLily" in the PSO IME, so obviously that name has meaning to PSO.

The last two - can they be found using the ASCII keyboard method like Del Lily?

Also know if the item drops from these quest variants are different than their normal counterparts, as was stated in this thread earlier?

Mericus and Merikle do drop diffrent items to Mericarol. They allways appear in the forbiden road path of famitsu and sometimes in the alluring flower arangment path.

Redria V/H
Mericarol = Yamato
Mericus - Angry Fist
Merikle - Agito 1991

Hmm, I wonder what they drop for Skyly in Ultimate then and why no item drop charts reflect this...

One can. The other (the new boss) can't because it gets confused with another word.

Anyone ever heard of a Del Lilly? There's talk of it over on the JPN BBS... basically, if you type an item/enemy of the game in japanese, and switch between characters, it will translate to English for you (not only that -- type sword, and keep hitting spacebar, and it will go through the major swords of the game).

Someone typed in Lilly, flipped through, and it went to Del Lilly... so it looks like besides the Easter Rappy, there's another rare enemy yet to surface. Wonder when it will.

Can anyone explain this a bit better though? I think I kinda know what they mean but not really...
