View Full Version : I Hate Christmas.

I like presents, I like cold weather, but I hate Christmas... and I resent that people celebrate it religiously. Wasn't Jesus supposed to be born in mid-late spring anyway?

And togetherness is nice and all, but the significant date of the 25th of December was either based on the winter solstice or that old Roman sun-god holiday.

I seem to have grown to be a self-acknowledged curmudgeon.

That being said--Bah Humbug to all, and to all a goodnight.

That. Might not even have one. Oh Well...

Oh well. I'm used to a yearly Christmas, as it's one of those things that just seems to happen, with or without "things".

Tch, I hate Christmas, too. It holds no special meaning for me (but, then again, no holiday does), since I don't believe in God, I don't really care about my family, and only have a very, very small handful of friends.

Gift exchanging really kills Christmas for me. I hate pretending to like a gift and it is sad when loved ones pretend back, or worse, don't pretend and start criticizing your gift choice.

I can never really afford gifts, and I hate receiving stuff without giving back, so I also hate it.

I do love the weather, specially down here in Florida. (which tonight and I guess the rest of this week should be quite cold! <3)

Some years I do like Christmas, but I do not believe in God, so it's not special to me in that sense.
As a kid, I just loved getting the presents.

Celebrate the christ's birth by... having tequilla shots.

Wait, what?

Are you complaining that they have the supposed date of Christ's birth wrong or the fact that it's a Christian holiday based off of pagan traditions?

Because one kind of makes the other a moot point entirely.

Make Christmas less about you, more about giving and being around some people (that aren't jerkass shoppers), make 100 less I messages in this topic, not just the real monster of that type - others are doing that too, then you'll probably forget all about 'suppos'dta's.

Perfectionist? Jaded, oh now we're more self aware now that we're older?

Or just "somebody's got a case of the "suppos'dta's"

I love being together with my family.

That makes one of us....
Only family I like is up North, and then my niece and nephew.
My nephew lives in Arizona, so I gots my niece, and that's it.
Awesome.

I couldn't care less about who or what or when Christ's birthday was/is... it's not even important to me.

Perhaps, but there's still plenty to love about this time of year. Hell, there are millions of people who don't believe in God and still celebrate Christmas because it's the time of the year where you get and give stuff. What's not to like?

Pretty much this.

Like I said though (but didn't quote) I love the weather around this time of year in Florida.
Gives me a break from the ridiculous humidity.

I'm pretty indifferent about Christmas, mainly through lack of anyone to celebrate it with. Well that and it isn't really a big deal here.

Really, I wouldn't mind Christmas so much if it was actually about celebrating family and friends and this wonderful thing we call life... except that this all tends to get lost in the fluster of tinsel and commercialism. Giving gifts is great, but Christmas ruins the warm fuzzy feeling it gives by turning a gesture of altruism into an obligation. A yearly tithe to family and friends and department stores.

In a nutshell, all of you hate christmas because you dislike/hate your family, cant afford gifts, lack a significant other to give gifts to, hate getting lame gifts and pretend you like it, feel obligated to be merry when in fact you want to be grumpy with self woes and heartaches? Hell, this sounds like an every day occurrence which only seems to be emphasized in any holiday.

Funny how the complaints all seem to be somewhat self-centered.

Regardless of which deity you pray or scuff, I for one show a bit of gratittude to actually be alive to see another Spring in my life. And for whatever reason I enjoy having the pagan ritual of decorating a tree with lights to welcome a new cycle to come, and to take time to reflect on all that has occurred in the past year and to remember those worth remembering and make an effort to reach out to them... to let them know they are no forgotten.

That has pretty much nothing to do with my post.

My point was that if the OP doesn't care about the religious aspect of the holiday, then it seems silly to complain about the religious details of it.

I was gonna say I hate Christmas too, but after realizing I could have peace of mind for the entire length of the party by sticking the kids on some cheap-ass WiiWare downstairs, everything felt a whole lot better.

Besides, I'm starting to like Bloody Caesars a whole lot more.

I'm a Super Atheist, but I don't particularly mind the holiday otherwise. Yes, it's basically just a commercial holiday with sugar-coating on top, but it's not like I don't like Stuff (getting it or giving it, for that matter). I think the part of it I dislike most is that it's the time of year where all the far-right church-fascist organizations cry and pitch a shitfit about the fact that all our base does not belong to them anymore.

I think the crazies are usually okay (or at least tolerable) around Christmastime, but this absurd "Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas" thing is so idiotic that it would be laughable if it wasn't so infuriating.

Dear morons - Not everybody celebrates Christmas! The end.

Christmas was originally a Pagan holiday anyway. Jezuhs wasn't born on Christmas.

So when people say "people forget the true meaning of Christmas" (hinting at the birth of christ), they are actually wrong and the true meaning IS giving gifts.

I'm pretty sure it was actually a fertility festival (or at least, it seems almost every ancient holiday was about fertility).

So I guess it was a kind of gift-giving?
