Should I play PSU before PSU: Ambition of the Illuminus, or do they have the exact same story-line?

Offline PSU happens before AotI. Play the single player story first.

This is my opinion:

The story mode, both offline and online for this game suck the hind tit. Pardon my french.

You will be forced, as I was to endure the online story mode at minimum in order to receive a handfull of items and NPC partner cards.

Bottom line. This game is meant to be played online. Buy AOTI right away and skip all the offline story BS.
