First of all, SonicTeam would like to extend their greatest sympathies and prayers to all of the victims of the recent earthquake in Japan.

Second, periodic power outages have been planned across the Tokyo electric grid since March 14, so they would like to give advance warning of the possibility of the Japanese PC/PS2 servers and the Japanese PC/PS2/360 official sites being down for a short period of time. The Xbox 360 game servers will not be affected by these outages.

If you want to correct the copy-paste, check the link again. I mistranslated a verb in my haste. It's not "outages have been occurring across the grid," but "outages are being planned to occur across the grid." Sounded weird to me, but after reading some stories at other sites like Kotaku, I see what they mean. Apparently power companies are requesting certain sections of Tokyo to conserve power while services are restored to areas heavily affected by the earthquake. At the moment, game servers for FF XI, FF XIV and Metal Gear Online have been taken down as a result of compliance.

Thanks! It's been corrected.

I was wondering where their servers were located. I knew of Tokyo's power saving act in an attempt to use saved power to help the northern areas.

I can't log in at the moment at least. In my opinion the servers can stay down as long as they want.

EDIT: O_o I managed to log in. How long were the servers down?

I'm in tokyo, I expected to get my power turned off, but it never did. I think they shut it down a section of the grid if it uses too much power for the day, but i'm not sure.

Wouldn't hold my breath. If you've been paying attention, they have farrrrrrrrr more to worry about than a videogame.

We already know that, but I guess he meant that the server hasnt been shutting down that much lately despite of the conflict there.

Anyway, my best wishes to japanese people. They are a hard-working society, so I have faith they will recover from this disaster.

The devastation from that Tsunami is insane. They seemed to have mostly earthquake safe buildings but...almost nothing can stand up to that wall of water.

I'm amazed that the servers would still be turned on at all; even though the servers weren't in the Tsunami zone.

I wish I could speak to other players online to wish them well..
