How would I do it? Like, play on the Japanese severs. I know I would have to restart. I'm interested, even learning Japanese. Is it really complicated?

Lemme know :o Also, do they have an english community on there?

For your other questions, yes there is an English-speaking community. It's probably just as hard to learn Japanese as any other second language, but to learn the basics it's not so bad.

Almost everything is written in katakana, which is very easy to learn. It is basically just a different alphabet. Just print out a chart, and you'll be good to go for the vast majority of the text in the game.

The download is free, 100% legally. You can download and play free course without spending a penny.

If you want to play premium, though, there is an initial $10 charge for a game key.

If you are planning to go premium, make sure you got the right key

ファンタシースターユニバース ゲームキー ---> PSU key (DO NOT GET THIS ONE)

イルミナス ゲームキー ---> AOTI key (GET THIS ONE)

don't know why they still got the PSU key, rip off option

It's there for anyone who wants to play Episode 1 offline.

In other words, it's there for Amaury.

Get a real credit/debit card. Otherwise, no, no way to pay for the game outside Japan.

All right, I think I'm gonna join the ranks of the JP PSU PC/PS2 players. =D Thanks for the info, I just finished downloading the files (actually I fell asleep then woke up after a few hours cause I didn't sleep last night) and I'm gonna follow the instructions on how to create an account. A premium account is basically like um... The subscription based one for the EN servers right? I'll look into it in a bit, just woke up... Need to wash my face. xD Thank you Amaury for directing me to this thread. I was so tired this morning that I didn't even look at the dates of those posts... xD I'm looking forward to content being added starting after the end of this month. =P Are all of you currently playing?

You need to download these files (http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/download/psuilluminus/httpdownload/).

You can follow this guide (http://psupedia.info/Joining_the_Japanese_Server) if you feel lost. I believe it's pretty accurate, but be careful anyway. Use google translate to get some indication about a page's contents.

For specs, the English official site (http://phantasystaruniverse.com/support_sysreq.php) will do.

When I try and download all the things, like setup, 1a, 1b stuff like that. Three of them say they are 2 gigs. My download will stop at 500mb or 800mb. Ugh

I didn't want to make a new topic just for my JP related question, and this seems like an appropriate spot so...

I'm trying to log into my account at the Japanese PSU website to ultimately purchase a subscription and maybe some Guardians Cash, but I've ecountered a problem. At the image verification part, just after it asks for ID/Password, there are some symbols I cannot find on the Hiragana/Katakana charts I've searched. I've tried reloading the page to get different image verifications, but there is always at least one symbol that isn't on the chart. Am I blind or are all the characters supposed to be on these charts?

Also, at the image verification, are we supposed to enter the romaji, hitakana, or katakana representation in the text field?

It's taタ niに muむ neね and haハ

Ta and ha are in katakana and ni mu and ne are in hiragana.

You type the romaji to get the character in it's respective dialect.

OK great. I found them on the chart. Those looked really different than on the chart. Guess I'll have to look more carefully.

Also, I tried entering the text in romaji, but I got a nasty popup message saying something I don't understand. Basically, I had to type the text back exactly as it showed in the image (text with mixed hragana and katakana) and it worked.

Thanks for the fast response.

yes, its really bad now.. before it was only katakana if I remember correctly, but now, its mixed @___@ hiragana is a problem for me... I need memorize them..

Yeah before it was straight up katakana. But now, well, it's italicized lol. And they mixed in hiragana which only makes it more complicated for players to login on the main site.

About typing hiragana and katakana, is there a fast to switch between them? I'm using windows XP and when I need to switch between them I need to manually go to the language bar to switch.
That's why I'm really wondering how the Japanese are typing, hiragana, katakana, 1/2 width hiragana/katakana and direct input as fast as they're able to. :-o

Hey, its, when in japanese input mode:
shift+caps lock=katakana
control+caps lock=hiragana

Iam almost sure that its correct, but if no, try mess with alt+caps lock too, and probabbly it will works...
Hiragana appears to be default JP alphabet, at least for me in default setting... Iam using win7 but XP goes same way...

and depends what you is typing, space bar switch between modes when you finish typer your text
example:
フェニ
after space bar pressing it can be
ふぇに (same thing but written in hiragana)

Ohh thanks a lot. Even though the controls are slightly different than what you have mentioned, I managed to figure it out. Now to get used to it. ^^
