Hey, even though i'm not even online yet (Damn those british game stores...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif ), I thought that due to mass cheating on the Dc, Cheating has been stopped, Although there will always b Cheaters...

This is why I felt sorry for the European PSO players, they never got a chance to play this game in a totally legitimate environment. Not only did they get the game so damn late, but they also get the game which has access to mass-cheating from day 1.

On the plus side you don't have to worry about NOL'ers and PK's or CK's http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif Only mass amounts of dupers.

There will always be cheating no matter what game. There will always be a shortcut for people to abuse. Hell even I sometimes draw "one too many cards" while playing some card games http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Listen i dont like you slagging down on dupers then its clearly you got no clue what your on about. Why do you think that YOU got more skills then me? I have played pso for about 2 years and know every thing about the game. How ever i started hacking a year ago becuse i was tired of beeing PKd and NOLed all the time. So i got my self a (cheat device) and after a while i had anti PK and anti NOL protetion witch was nice. But then the cheat device started to corupt my mind i got more and more drawn into the dark side...some time later i made my first kill. At first i felt quite bad about my self but that feeling soon wear of, and pking and noling and sometimes even vking was the only thing i played 4. Later on i found my self standing in a empty lobby looking at my guild cards only 2 realice that i had no friends left. Thats then it finaly hit me.. I had ruined the game. So sad i was and lonely i decided to do some good, and started makeing and duping weaps and items for legit players they loved me for it but i was still not happy, i only felt used. So i quit playing the game. But i still cant help feeling like a victim somehow, The victim of power and greed that the cheat device provides. I can make any item=losing the joy in finding 1 I can kill anyone=no one trusts me I can gain any LV. i want in 2 min. = why even bother. But i only blame my self 4 getting the cheat device in the first place. BUT DONT SAY I CANT PLAY DUDE, AND DONT CALL ME NAMES 4 YOU ARE NOT ANY BETTER THAN ME I CAN ASURE YOU !!

Meh. People who cheat on video games are weak-minded. I don't really care if its moral or not, cheaters just look stupid to me.

That sentance contradicts itself.

But as for the rest of your post, I'd agree that cheating doesn't always mean you aren't any good at the game. But your actions do speak loudly of your character, I mean you ran around pking and noling and then tried to redeem yourself by spreading around dupes?

Well, he doesn't really represent every person that has cheated before... and I would never choose somebody like him. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

well i was pritty bad my self
take note that i had pso since it came out in japan the 1st week. i had to play the game that would revolutionize console gaming.and altemitlly i destroyed the thing i spent my time on almost ever day for 3 years when i was moving and came to a new area.

my clan was the 1st clan(ESoV) to make black armor

this hacked item was untracible to sega servers
as we made the code for it look as if it were a flame
but when equiped by any one(even none AR,GS,CB) it set your hp to 1/1 and made your mst -1000. casting resta that did -1000.

but the best part about it was that it not reconize you as a pc or as an npc (there for making you not able to target your self or others to target you.

some how you could nol with it but i didnt know how i was the guy that made the detection part.not that hard with a cb but it was fun to walk in to a room of pkers trying to pk me when i enterd and i just kept walking and pked them all with out walking to bank
i used it for pk battles.

when ver2 came out i didnt hack any more because there was a battle mode

as for duping well i made my own stuff from the basics

You either work for your weapons (C-Mode) or actively look for them, or if you're like me, just play the game and hope you find something good-

more importantly, something with good %.

People should not resort to cheating-duping 'rares' so you have three of each item is just ludicrous.

Its about having little to no will-power, that people do this. Weak-minded.

Those that carry several duped rares into combat, (mostly - conveniently with high %)claiming themselves to be 'Uber', whilst everyone else in the party struggle legitimately to clear an area-

I'd like to know what makes them think they're so good.

Hence, stupidity is what makes them think this way.

Stupid, lazy players who don't care enough for the game, (or others people's perception of them - heck, no self-pride) or themselves to play fairly.

Get this - some people don't "resort" to cheating. Some people simply want to cheat. It might sound crazy, but that's what some people did, including myself when I was on the DC.

The ones that resort to cheating are people that care about what others think (the kind that are jealous of what other people have). They are incredibly weak-minded, I agree, but not all cheaters are like this.

I hope you're not annoyed by those people that think they are 'Uber', because you'd be as weak-minded as those that resort to cheating.

As for what makes them think they are good; powerful weapons. Simple. If they didn't get those weapons legitimately, then you may say whatever you want to them.

I cheated. I'm not stupid, nor am I a lazy player. I didn't care what others thought of my cheating is where you hit the mark. Some people just do not care one single bit. I had fun when I cheated, so I didn't really care at the time about the way I played - I was having fun, so screw everything else.

PSO was my first online game, and it didn't really hit me straight away that my cheating would affect other people. Later on, I realised what I was doing was wrong, so I changed my playing ways accordingly.

I don't see a lot of people in the games I play beating their chest and boasting about how 1337 they are.
If anything, a fair number of them are good players.

They take time to heal the team, cast S/D/J/Z, res dead players, prioritize certain enemies over others (ie. ob lillies), share the exp, and generally have a good time. The only thing that distinguishes them from good players using legit items is their equipment.

You're arguing that the usage/possession of duped high-level rares somehow lowers a player's skill. Your argument is flawed. The possession of these items does not affect a player's skill. Calling somebody a 'duper' or 'skill-less cheater' just because he/she is using dupes is childish and smacks of jealousy. Killing a certain enemy over and over in hopes of getting a rare isn't skill, it's obsession.

Basically, if you suck to begin with, no amount of super rares will help you become better. Yet, no amount of those rares will make a good player better either. It's all up to the person holding the controller to become better at the game.

I understand that it may sound that way, but jealousy plays no part in that post. I'm just trying to understand why people cheat this game, instead of having fun.

I never questioned a cheater's skill- its more than likely that he/she are more than capable of playing legitmately to that which is considered of a high standard.

Which begs the question-why then, do certain players cheat?

And to the point about rare hunting being a kind of obsession, this is true. I've had first-hand experience of this, the last being the hunt for an elusive Santa Rappy.
But to weigh- up the argument, I dare say that a large proportion of users have played either the original PSO or V2, and understand that rare hunting can verge into obsession/tedium very quickly. But is not duping another form of obsession-the need to own three of each item?

But that is for the individual to decide; what lengths they will go to own a particular item. Trading is now longer an option because of cheating, so this leaves those in want of someting rare in a difficult situation.

You can calculate and increase your chances by picking a suitable ID and level of diffculty and sure enough, you may find what you want. But nothing is left to the imagination anymore, something which ST naively mis-calculated. Everything has to be 'Had', and as quickly as possible.

I'm interested in what types of people cheat and why. We're in good stead of runing this version like the other two. I think its only fair to know whos causing it.

I guess people are just impatient. Many people on GC version are DC vets, and a fair number of them just want their stuff back from the old days, and quick. Some people were legits once, but got totally fed up with not being able to trade any of their stuff for anything worthwhile. Others simply use dupes because they don't care.

Then there are those who trade their legit things and get duped items in return - some of which are hard to distinguish from the legit thing. If somebody traded me a Red Sword with no %s for one of my demo comets, I'd make the trade, but what if that Sword had been duped by the trader? How would I know if it was duped? What if people automatically assume that anybody using a Red Sword must be a duper or a dupe user?

I've always saw cheaters as:

Greedy - The desire to obtain items at all costs.

Blind - Not seeing the consequences of their actions.

There are other characteristics you can associate them with, but those two seems to remain a constant.

Not just cheaters are greedy, a high percentage of PSO players in general, are greedy as hell. Myself included in this. If you see a red box, won't you want it? Some people go for it like hungry dogs running towards food. That's the sort of behaviour that results in a lot of players becoming greedy.

As for being blind, well, that goes for a lot of players. I was blind to see the consequences of what I was doing, so were many others, and that resulted in hellish state that the Dreamcast versions of PSO ended up to be in.

on a side note with what i've read
if Noling and PKing does come back Sega forbid.
can i justify myself by going out and buying a cheat device excuse at this time in my life i'm having a bad day and i think i've gone mad.
i'm a stable minded person i can't stand being mean to people i do believe that you should look for your own items and i know it's extremely tempting to just tap in that code or wahtever and get that item of your dream, but i wouldn't i'd think of all you truly legits out there that even though they''ve seen teh worst they stand firm eventhough everyoen says they are "weak" or "old vets" hell i've heard "no legits exist anymore they've all given in"
you stand strong to what you believe and i plan on to also. though i'm not going to push what i think on everyone i see. anyways to be frank

"i'm not paying 8.95 out of my own money to pay just for my +600 hours of work and time just for it to be deleted just for some other gamers enjoyment, i'm sorry but i just can't do that."
have i gone insane by saying
"if PK CK MK DK come back i'm getting a Cheat Device just to protect myself thats all"
i know this makes sense to someone
am i Cheap, well no it's just that my money flow is getting horrile short, so if i can't enjoy my 8.95 a month why pay it.
alturnative
offline yes i know, but i mean i can't expect myself to cut off my communtication with all i know. and well if i can adviod going offline for the rest of my PSO time i will.

I certainly hope that Noling and Vking doesn't hit the GC & Xbox versions. I'll say goodbye to online play for good, or maybe only play online with my trustworthy mates. The game should be played legitimately, only Sega doesn't have the best track record with being able to keep it that way. I don't like cheating in online games, even if it is the kind that so-called "benefits" some people because even the simpliest of codes can lead to cheats that cause widespread and massive damage. For the DC version, if you were a keen hacker you'd probably have noticed that one particular little code gave you clues on how to code very bad cheats for the game. Oh, cheating does indeed suck, and Sega needs to do a better job.
