What are badges for?

I recieved an item yesterday whilst playing through one of the protector event missions. It is called "Bronze W. Badge" What is this?

u can trade them in at the 5th for mission(gifts from beyond+) to make Silver/Gold badges and do a lottery where you can win Chevaliers edge or u can them for PA frags
