View Full Version : Game combining all characters

hey i'm coding a game for Windows putting all the characters from the different games against enemies from the series together. Actually, it's more like a Boss Rush mode, kinda like the Shining Force Premium Disc battles if anyone knows it.
It's not RPG Maker, I'm coding this from scratch myself (C#) and am using enhanced sprites ripped from the original games.

I've pretty much gotten most of the framework for the game coded, now I'm just ripping sprites and putting them in the game, as well as coding techniques. Right now, I'm only gonna code the best techniques in and I'll add the rest later if there's interest.

As for the enemies, I'm only going to include maybe 10 from each game because ripping sprites sucks, and really the only reason they will be in is to earn money/exp so you can go on the awesome BOSS RUSH MODE.

Once most things are finished up (maybe in a month or two, unless I work on this more seriously) I may include a "Load Game" option so you can load any existing parties from an emulator save file. If that proves too much work I'll just include a quick character editor to create whatever party you want at whatever levels, including whatever items.

What I would like though is input as to which enemies from which games you would like to see, and if possible, a gens or fusion savegame/state that would let me get to the area that the enemy is at quickly, so I can rip the sprites. Oh, I should mention that I WILL have PS Generation 2 sprites included in the near future. At this point I'm not too concerned about whether or not the characters will mesh...i mean PS III doesn't even let you see the characters attack!

A bit about myself: I'm an amateur coder that's been coding on and off for 10 years now (still a novice though). I've released one game ever but unfortunately I lost the source code and geocities purged the only uploaded copy. I usually finish things that I start, especially with support!

Oh, I'm researching including 3d effects for certain attacks (I'm coding a basic 3d battle system using sprites for real "depth" during combat)

Right now I have a preview of the system out, however it's not designed to showcase much except for the bare-bones battle system. Note you will have to install the Microsoft XNA 3.1 redistributable file first! (NOTE: if you don't install it then the installer will download it for you automatically supposedly)

I think the game will only crash if your PC does not have Shader Model 1.1
