View Full Version : Would SEGA ever go the 3D route w/PSO2?

I've scoured the threads here to make sure this hasn't been posted yet, and I HOPE TO GOD I don't get flamed, but I really enjoy playing games in stereoscopic 3D. Titles like Motorstorm, Killzone3, GT5 & Mortal Kombat all add to the experience when played in 3D. DW7 in particular made me think how cool PSO2 would be in this format. I know PC's can HDMI-out to a 3D tv and I'm just wondering if SoJ has even considered it. Epic win or epic FAIL??????

I'm not so sure how it would well it would work with a party combat system...

So many blinded arkz...

It's not impossible I guess but not sure how 3D works in videogames, or at least if they can just add it on a whim...

Let's hope they add motion controls too!

jokes aside, i really dont see the point. It'd add to the game....but only if it was done right. And on top of that, it's a PC game. I wouldn't really care anyway.

And only a troll/internet bully would flame someone for something so trivial. And "internet bully" is never a good look.

I thought internet bullies aim for worse, more personal things. Like posting naked dancing videos of someone from their hacked myspace. :0

Making fun of a guy cause he said something silly or stupid sounds normal to me...

Even if it's only silly from the point of view from a hyped fanboy.

I must have missed something. Where is the "internet bullying" in this thread?

I didn't seeing any teasing at all either. Back on topic, I have played a ton of 3D games lately and it must be seen to be believed. I've found 3D games to be better than 3D movies so far (except for maybe Coraline...amazing) and again, after playing Dyansty Warriors in stereoscope, I hope SEGA is onboard. There are 100's of 3D enabled PC games & most are very good. If your PC has HDMI out & you own a 3D tv, you could really be immersed in PSO's world/s.

I still think more time would really be needed before more companies see it as a worthwhile venture.

3D is a nice addition, but definitely not an advantage given this kind of gaming. It's hack and slash based, not precision based. It can look neat, but at the same time the hardware is still a bit inaccessible.

The biggest hurdle getting around is the whole need for 3D glasses. Heck, we can do that with our PCs now; and yet you see very little people making use of said technology for games that support it.

The 3DS probably gets it the easiest because there is no additional hardware to get. You have the system, you can choose to see it in 3D. I'm not even worried about investing in a 3D tv until the prices come down because the addition of 3D isn't going to convince me to pay that much more over the cost of an HDTV now.

You don't get much more "hack n' slash" than Dynasty Warriors! And it looked great, which is why I'm hoping SEGA considers it. People who have 3D tv's already own glasses so it wouldn't be a fuss to them & if you just want 2D, all my games come that way defaulted anyways. 3D is usually in the menu options.

Tv's are reasonably priced right now too.

Ehh, I'm not really into the whole 3D craze (wearing 3D glasses over my own regular glasses is awkward anyway), and I HATE waggle controls, unless they're extremely interactive and intuitive. Such features usually seem kinda tacked on just for the sake of novelty in a lot of games, and I don't see a game like PSO2 building itself around it.

A lot of things you can do with a motion controller, such as aiming and shaking, can be done with a mouse anyway, albeit only on a 2D surface. And from my experiences with the Wii, the outputs you get are often inaccurate or delayed - not something I'd want in an action-heavy game with the possibility of online lag. Also, what kind of motion controller would you hook up to a PC?? I'd heard of people hacking Kinects for Minecraft, but there's no way they'd encourage something like that; they'd have to market some sort of ridiculous peripheral to go with the game that would increase the overall cost and discourage a lot of people from buying it, possibly leading to pirating. The only way I'd see it happening is if it were on consoles, and we've discussed the pros and cons of that numerous times before.

As for 3D itself... it just doesn't really enhance the experience for me. Oh look, that monster jumped out into the foreground and it looks like it's going to attack ME PERSONALLY! That's NEVER been done before... That, and I hear some people tend to get sick from the images produced from 3D effects. Also, would you need to buy glasses, or even a 3D-capable TV? Again, it's just not very marketable, and I don't see it as crucial to the gameplay experience either.

So yeah, I'd say EPIC FAIL.

Akaimizu
Apr 27, 2011, 01:50 PM
Not really Epic fail. I think the *best* possible use of immersive 3D is in perfect 1st person. that is, when you personally are the character. Then things in 3D space affect you personally if they can tell you are actually touching the object. However, that would require something beyond Kinect and TVs can do at this time. They can do it sort-of, but you'd be only dealing with stuff in a frontal arc from you.

Now if we get to the days where we have 360 degree theatre in 3D, that'll be the game changer, and only for those 3D immersion games. Obviously a good number of genres will be left out.

I do agree that Samurai Warriors did look pretty nice in 3D, for the 3DS. But while it looked kind of cool, it also was a periphial use. It technically didn't immerse me any more into the combat even though there was definitely depth perception and some particles coming out of the screen. I think the idea that 3D could actually be a real selling-point factor for SEGA, vs. costs of doing it, would be something to consider before SEGA does. They'd have to know it'll be a market benefit.

Its a function almost every PC game released today has, I don't see it that difficult. But wait, PSO2 looks like a 6 years old console game... so no, I doubt it.

3D has already penetrated homes. I'm not the only one that has one. I believe it went from 2% of U.S. households in 2010 to 11% this year alone. Again, people that don't have the equipment stll get a great game...people w/3D tv sets get an awesome game + 3D experience. It is just a feature that can be turned on or off.

I never brought up the motion controls btw......dumb idea IMO

It may look like a 6 years old console game to you, but I'm willing to bet it'll require today's latest PC specifications to run it. Sure, Aion might look prettier, but it'll likely need twice the Aion specs to run as smooth.

Believe me, I love Phantasy Star games, but one thing I do know about them (except for the PSP and DC) is that they often use way more machine spec than anybody else, who would create a game with the same graphics, would. But maybe this being primarily a PC game, they will actually optimize specifically for them like they did the PSP. Possibly wishful thinking, but I have my hopes.

But don't see it necessary.

Blah, took me a second to get it. Umm, no idea really if there gona add in support for 3D monitors/tvs and such, but I'm gonna lean to probably not because we just haven't heard a word about it having a possibility being included. Plus we only have just seen photage from the Alpha so there's a long way to go till the finished product.

With the way the Japanese are going nuts over the 3DS, I'm sure when this game rolls around sometime next year, it'll have a 3D feature too. Wouldn't be that hard to patch in either. For example, Killzone3 was built with 3D in mind and it has some sick sequences made for 3D. CoD:blackops however, was not designed for it. It was later patched in & it looks great but there are no blatant in-your-face 3D moments like K3. Either way I'm pumped...........-peace for today-

Let's get serious. This game isn't even going to have average graphics, there is no way it will have 3D.

With the way the Japanese are going nuts over the 3DS
There must be two Japans in the world.

Anyway, 3D is a fad and an expensive one at that. If you take what was said on the blog about being able to play PSO2 without having to upgrade too much at face value, I don't see 3D being used in PSO2.

r00tabaga
Apr 27, 2011, 07:48 PM
Actually, they said that all people, both low end PC users AND those who want jack the graphics up. So why wouldn't they go 3D? If some of you don't want it then fine, but a lot of the 3D people I know are excited that many game developers are going this route. Disney alone is rolling out 15 new 3D blurays this year. Not a fad I'm afraid.

Having a 3D OPTION in settings won't effect the dinosaur PC users.

-cough- ///.HACK -cough-

Considering that people look at computer screens within 1 foot away from the monitor screen, uh... maybe a 3D option is a bad idea. Then again, it's like people saying, "There shouldn't be speakers attached to an iPod because it can blow out your ears when held close!" (a variation of a certain case against Apple)

So, why not have a 3D option? I'm sure the people would like to fap to that HUnewearl. (( Ah, the benefit of the doubt <3 )) But seriously, 3D as it is now... uh... I have my doubts.

Huh. A TV. Well, I'd like to play on a TV. It beats staring at a monitor. Psh! XD (( In other words, I'm indifferent ))

EDIT:
But while we're at it, why not do it at theater? There's the whole IMAX thing going on ((Hint, hint))

That's right, I'll sacrifice porn for PSO2.

Well... most people when playing on their computer... tend to look at their computer screen.

Most probably do, yes. You'd be surprised how many play on big screen TV's also. I just hope that there is an option for 3D, that's all. It is impossible for a game to have too many options, especially one that is on PC.

I'm not getting where this hardcore anti-ecchi mentality comes from...

I mostly see it from people that are new to anime.

PSU could of been WAY worse. @_@

No 3D thank you. In my opinion 3D is overrated. I want a 3DS simply for it's hardware capabilities. And I already fry my eyes enough with normal gaming.
