Can someone please explain to me about the Beat system in PSO?

It's basically the games version of a clock. The idea was that instead of doing time conversions for different countries, Players would meet at certain beat points. It also has some effects on weapons and finding rares.

A day is divided into 1000 beats, 1 beat= 1 minute and 26.4 seconds. It's called internet time by Swatch (the company that came up with it) and exists so that businesses don't have to think about time zones. Sonic Team decided to use it for PSO because they wanted to allow players to have the freedom of meeting up with other players around the globe.

It supposedly has some effect on rare items, but nothing has been proved yet, and it is very possibly coincidence.
