al-Sayed al-Essawy in a extreme attempt to boost tourism in Egypt announces a battle between him and a 500lbs 10 year old lion in front of the Pyramids at Giza. He is, self proclaimed, the world's strongest man and below you can read an interview which pretty much involves a bunch of contradictory craziness about the probable life or death situation he's putting himself in. Apparently he wishes to tie up the lion while avoiding harming the creature, however, if the lion doesn't "lay down and accept it" al-Sayed will be forced to harm or kill the lion.

All in all I'm not sure it'll do anything for Tourism, I'm sure Youtube will be happy to oblige people's fantasy of watching a lion fight without traveling to Egypt. At the end of the day, I'm hoping the lion gives him a scar big enough to remind him that fighting lions is morally wrong and dumb.

Thoughts? The general ethics of lion fighting. ^.^

Actually, since there's a Fight the Lion thing, I keep thinking of the Monty Python skit. "Scott of the Sahara."

Still, it's odd that to promote tourism, they want to "go back in time" and engage the age old Colliseum fights to bring in tourism. What's next? Gladiators? Are we going to re-enact the Sparticus show in modern times, for real? Is Lucy Lawless going to be involved? :)

Though for reference sake, I think somebody should suggest that he fights a giant electrical mutant penguin instead just so he can shout, "No! I get to fight the Lion!!!"

XDDD I JUST watched that episode of Monty Python last night. Then we can have a drunk directer shouting, "Great!", with a Scottish accent at every suggestion made or every time someone talks to him.

I can imagine that maybe some people would want to go to Egypt just to see this in person, but the existence of Youtube kinda impairs that effort. XP

"If you build it, they will come."

Pretty sure that claws and teeth are going to beat flesh, but whatever, I'll watch.

"Al-Masry: So, you’re not going to kill the lion?

Essawy: No. Unless it’s a matter of life or death, in which case I will be forced to kill it.

Al-Masry: When is fighting a lion not a matter of life or death?"

^ I lol'd.

He wouldn't happen, by any chance, to be a chartered accountant would he? He may be missing some vital information about lions...

This is a stupid idea on many various levels. That said, if it ever gets released on video, I'm definitely going to watch it anyways.
