This article says it all.

$60 for a MONOCLE?! A VIRTUAL MONOCLE?! $15 for PANTS?! WHO THOUGHT UP THESE PRICES!? WHO DO I HAVE TO BURN!?

CCP, I AM DISAPPOINT. :-x

I am not. Those are some great and awsome prices. Microtransactions done right.

Now that I think about it, "microtransactions" is a misnomer for items with prices like these. There's gotta be a better name...

"Rip-off transactions" is more accurate, but of course, marketing doesn't care about accuracy. Har, har.

Macrotransactions.

See, when I read "macrotransactions" I think of buying things in large quantities at once.

So I think "regular transactions" will probably have to suffice for this. CCP kinda missed the point of the word "micro", hmm?

That $13 could have bought you 10 games during the summer sale!

It's worth noting that TF2 doesn't have a monthly fee.

So it's kinda a leap from that to EVE, methinks.

Posting from phone: apologies.

If you haven't raged on the official forums yet, you might as well enter the fray. Mods there are taking the day off as their alts have already been wardecced in-game, though officially their policy is to 'read the feedback'.

Honestly, the NeX / Aurum currency are the least troubling aspects of Incarna. CCP are just hedging bets on PLEX market collapse and giving trolls a new weapon.

Far more worrisome things to come, may be time to find another hobby.

There are few things as fascinating as the EVE Online economy (both virtual and real).

It's a great thing to watch but I'd hate to be a part of it.

What, for us casual observers, is wardeccing?

I'm guessing its something that would be considered griefing in most games.

I see. Sounds like a good reason to keep your alts a secret.

Yeah, you guys got it. Once you are involved in a corp war, you, your ships, player-owned stations, and all your holdings are fair game in all of EVE, and no NPC corp [i.e. CONCORD] will intervene on either sides' behalf.

Keeping alt IDs secret is never a bad idea. In EVE, everyone is someone's alt.

The more I hear about EVE, the more it sounds like a Earth simulator.

I've always kinda viewed it as an Objectivist training platform, but with lasers. ;3

If I was teaching sociology, I think observing EVE Online would be part of my curriculum.

I love that it exists, but like Mike said, I never want to get involved.

...Seriously, great job. It'll take years to really recover from this amazing PR snafu!

My hope is that they never do. Got a ten dollar bet that Hilmar will be driving a garbage truck about 2 weeks after the 2011 financials come out and SONY goes ahead with a complete buyout.

As stupid as that is, you know there are people out there that are going to do it. I'm sure there are a good select portion of gamers out there sitting on enough wealth to blow some real cash on this kind of stuff. there always is.

And why not, when you think about it?

Hell, most of the times I joined a MMO, I was late for the party. I was a level 1 teenager while my friends, who had joined some months ago, were maxed-out pwnmobiles. I spent my time grinding like a maniac but could never catch up since those guys found better and better gear, and did increasingly harder dungeons.

Imagine if I could've payed, say, 6 months of sub right there and then to get a kickstart and at least be closer to the level of the people I'm joining. EVE is already, with a few acrobatics, doing the same already except that your only blocker is the skill training queue. But it's never really been the sort of thing to stop a player and his teammates.

One thing I would have to say about EVE though, is getting a kick start right off the bat might be kind of useless. It is a type of game in which somebody would certainly be better off not buying said kick starts until they are positive they can tackle the learning curve, though that does not really rule out that argument. I can not say that would apply to you though, I would think you of all people could handle the curve just fine if you played.

I could probably hear the argument from their community coming forth though that dedicated players would be accelerating through their multiple accounts/characters with the kick starts. Regardless, I suppose it is a moot point now considering they held a meeting about it and stated there will be no game affecting microtransactions. Link:
