We see this every time we log on to our accounts here on pso-world, and I gotta say it feels good to be thanked. Even though this website is a free service for us, to be able to have a forum to talk to other Phantasy Star gamers. To share our opinions and thoughts, and to get connected to play. To stay in touch with old PSO/PSU friends, wow what a great website this is. And they thank us! I so rarely read those five little words but today I just had to stop and say: "aww thoughtful".

Now that we are all chewing on rainbows, I feel I must address a serious threat that we are facing here and in the Phantasy Star Community. There has been a plague spreading and multiplying like a deadly virus without a cure. It consumes good gamers and turns them into complete simple minded assholes. It causes them to focus all their efforts on puffing themselves up, and they make racist clams of superiority. They think themselves to be a supreme race and they encourage others of the same race to share their warped views.

They call this spread of artificial-ignorance: "Cast Supremacy", a belief or philosophy that the Casts are superior to other races, dominate, in control or rule those who are not Casts. We are not sure at this time what spawned this virus, although my theories keep circling around PSU. Reports and symptoms began to spawn around the time of Mother Brain, and I'm sure there must be a correlation between the two.

As I mentioned earlier at this time there is no known cure, the affectionately named "retardacon syndrome" is rooted deep within the AI cortex. We are not exactly sure how the virus spreads from one Cast to the next. My theory is that it may transmit through wireless means. -Instead of following "Resident Evil, T-Virus" rules where; the virus is spread by contact. It follows "I Am Legend, K.V." rules where; the virus is airborne and some Casts may have an immunity.- In this dark hour all we can do is hope, and guard our non-infected Casts friends from being exposed to the retardacons.

Join me in the fight against the retardacons, I have an experimental treatment. Tell a Cast you love them today, let them know how important they are to the Phantasy Star world legacy. Show them that we can all live together as equals, dependent on one another for survival. And together we can stop this artificial stupidity from spreading to our friends and guilds.

...oh but screw Beasts. They can go lick themselves, pee on a their owners rug, and eat their meals on the floor like the dogs that they are. -_-

I've been the victim of this "retardacon" epidemic many times. I can't count the amount of times I've tried reasoning with these poor afflicted souls. using the best logic and even showing them that as a Newman, I can keep up with the best of them in my own right, but to no avail.

I will try your method, and hopefully, if we all band together and work hand in hand, maybe someday we will overcome this horrible condition.

P.S. you forgot to mention that beasts are also only fit to act as shields for Newmans.

I agreed with the OP's rant until the last sentence. Poor soul obviously doesn't know what he's talking about (it's a joke, relax).

The following statements pertain to characters of the female persuasion only:

Anyway, CASTs suck. They're generally very plain looking, and have no good clothing options. That puts them in the number 3 seed for me. They're above Humans, since most Humans have monkey-faces. Newmans are right above CASTs, since they can be quite cute if made correctly. And, as most people know, Beasts are my number one. Their cute little noses and adorable hair-lip can't be beaten. Most people that hate on Beasts just don't know how to configure their features correctly.

However, if we're talking from a gameplay standpoint, then CASTs are the best. I still think they're boring, though.

*Shakes head and the poor misguided soul* I can only agree with you on one point concerning beasts, Females are the best, since they tend to shed less than the males, plus with their higher DFP they can generally take more hits overall, therefor making better meat shields. Other than that though, I have no real use for them.

As for CASTs being the best at combat, well I only have two words that overide any argument in favor of them, Limit Break. Now maybe if the CAST were to get a lucky shot in with Espada or something then they just might beat a Newman, but they'd have to get through the beast a smart newman would inevitably be standing behind, so yeah, point stands. Newmans beat out anything. CASts are terrible, beasts a close second. (Not even gonna count Humans since the only good thing they've ever done was create Newmans, I'll forgive them for the snafu of beasts and CASTs)

Sure we do seem superior and all, But its not the skills. Nor the Numbers of Casts that make us Superior. Its a Combination of both. Besides, All these newer shooter models mostly fit an Army. Not a Group. Rangers =/= Group. Besides, Shouldn't there be peace among the races? Hell we fought for how many years now? It still continues to pester us through some childish manner? That's why when things happen like that, You know a fellow Cast Supremacist is the one to blame.

Oddly enough, I don't remember any stupid race wars when PSO was the big thing.

Then there's the fact that the entire concept of CAST Supremacy originally came up in PSUep1's story.

It sounds to me like it has everything to do with PSYOU's weirdness.

Well, I was referring to the future, not the past. I never said anything about "race wars" in PSO. I said that "race wars" will most likely continue in PSO2. In any event, people can think how they want. If other people want to say it's "weird" just because they don't think the same way as someone else, then that's their problem. Most of this thread is, as I stated earlier, tongue-in-cheek.

Casts lost their designating characteristics between RAcaseal/HUcaseal Racast/HUcast throughout this generation too, making them the most generic versions.

Kinda already know who's on the Beast side/(Newman side) but not admitting it here and hoping for no BEAST WARS come PSO2; FOcast still doesn't exist either

Unlike those flea bitten Beasts that contribute nothing to the Phantasy Star community, other than free labor and sex slaves. They wouldn't even be around if it wasn't for the sick scientists that wanted to take the "mans best friend" theory to a whole other level. It's a good thing they are to stupid to realize it. Oh and they can't even see colors, which means they can't see the colors on the American flag, damn commies. If I had it my way I'd let Michael Vic drown um and electrocute them all to his hearts contend. And before you start feeling bad about this rant just remember Beasts don't have souls which means there is no god that cares about them gaining an afterlife. So at least their hell is only temporary.

The problem is that when CASTs are put under the conditions of being given their best gear (as a fighter for example) and comparing them to any other race that has their best gear of the same class, CASTs will beat them in a TA. Which as far as being superior goes, that's the only time it would matter. I hate the whole "Cast Supremacy" thing as much as the next guy, but it's even more salt and lemon juice in the wounds when they actually have factual evidence to back up such ridiculous claims.

PSP2? There was a half-beast/half-newman kid named Faroi Koid in Dagora City way back in PSU vanilla. He mentions it in Ep I, Chapter 9: Hot SOS. God, pay attention to the story a bit people. :p

The only game that Newmans couldn't reproduce naturally in was Phantasy Star II and the Memorial Drama CD (Pre-SEED; GENE/BioSystems Lab-built Numans). They weren't designed to breed because they were only meant to be rapid-growth biosoldiers for the genocide of all Palman humans - and then terminate quickly so that the last few remaining Earthlings could colonize Algol with a minimal invasion force. But that changed shortly before PSIV when the NM-2000 series was modified by SEED specifically to breed with humans and pass on beneficial genetic mutations that would allow them to survive the degrading environment.

I assume PSO's Newman could breed as well. I don't remember any hybrids off the top of my head, but Phantasy Star Zero states that some time after wiping out all the Newmans on Coral, Mother Trinity recreated the first generation of them artificially - but second and third generation Newmans like Reve and Sarisa were born naturally.

Also, when you think about it, there's no reason why Casts and Humans can't interbreed. Especially when you consider that genetics is just codes, and in the measure that we can write genetic programs which create organic outputs - we can create a genetic profile for an AI - especially if that AI is built from the knowledge gained by reverse engineering/emulating our own brains. It might not even be possible to build a strong AI from the ground up using original logic processes. At least, not any kind of consciousness we are likely to recognize and relate to. And it's not even clear at this point whether or not our flavor of consciousness can even handle a fully integrated interface with digital components, so Strong AI built using the human brain as a template might not be able to either. And this might be the case for PS casts since they obviously show emotion, motivations, and conscious recognition comparable to humans... even though they seem to have an enhanced awareness and control of their sub-processes/sub-conscious.

So you could take an AI and map/generate it's functions with specific neurological structure correlates and then convert that down into basal structures in a genetic code so that even personality/behavioral quirks are preserved at least as well as they are in biological heredity. The building blocks of this stuff already starting to be done, right now - in the real world, so it's not that far fetched. Unless you believe in magic and pixies and Cartesian dualism.

They had a chance to really get into some philosophical mind-fuckery with Ethan x Mikaris Geid... but no... Sega decided to play it all "Herp derp, I can't go out with a robot! Yer metal chassis will pinch my ding-dong".

Also, when you think about it, there's no reason why Casts and Humans can't interbreed.The fact that Casts are born fully grown might be a bit of a barrier.

The offspring wouldn't be cast, they'd be human. Inverting the process and creating a new CAST with a biological parent would be more difficult, and require more steps since you still have to build a genetic profile for the AI anyhow - then scan/upload the genetic sequence of the other parent's gamete so as to simulate a fertilization process and from there strip out the code necessary for determining brain development and translate that over to the AI development software scaffolding.

But it's still the same basic principal.

Oh but this horse is still fresh sir, until I say "/rant" I feel I have a certain unwritten right to rage on hopefully reaching a point were I am no longer upset.

Please understand I get no pleasure in being the barer of bad news. For many of the Casts in PSU, PSZ, and PSP2, there is no hope of a cure. All we can do now is band together and stand tall. We must be strong and not give in. We cannot afford to have more Casts become infected, or dare I say it... The virus may spread to PSO2.

This is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, the artificial-idiots cannot be allowed to corrupt our Cast brothers. It is my belief that this is just the begging, soon the Retardacons will rise up and form an army -much like in the movie i-Robot-, and they will try and wipe out the race of man, -but much like in The Matrix they will discover that they need man to survive- and they will keep us as slaves! -but not in the fun Matrix way, more like in they terrible Terminator way-. You must believe me when I say a fight will soon be upon us, and you must choose a side!

But I have another theory of how we can suppress the Retardacons. We throw wave after wave of Beasts into the front lines and hopefully the dead mounds of Beasts will form a wall protecting us. And I know what your thinking; "won't this wall smell really bad?" well I am working on odor reducing formulas for that. It will probably be the same odor reducing sprays that we use on Beasts when they are alive.

Q: Is this a permanent solution? A: Of course not. We still must find a way to completely stop the spread of the Retardacons, but at least with my temporary plan we can get rid of a few Beasts in the process.

There is no way a Retardacon could have the capabilities of forming such a complex message. This may not even be the handy work of Mother Brain directly, no no, this must be coming from a far darker authority. -Much like in The Da Vinci Code, the "Freemasons" were controlled from within by the "Illuminati", the "hidden hand" working the Freemasons like puppets on a string.- The Illuminati often used anagrams to communicate with one another.

It is my belief that the dark hand inside the Cast Supremacist is none other than the dark one himself; Dark Falz. And the Retardacon Virus itself is a hybrid of the SEED virus. Casts must have brought it back unintentionally from the planet Rykros. This explains why we didn't see the signs earlier, the virus must lay dormant inside their circuitry. The only symptoms that are noticeable is their unquenchable desire to annoy us with all this supremacy nonsense. [(A red flag that otherwise would have gone unnoticed I hadn't been rigorously testing the SEED virus on Beasts at that time, and unfortunately the virus had little effect on the Beasts... (I still had to put them down like Old Yeller, so they wouldn't bark a word to anyone)]. So the virus can only survive and be spread among Casts, which explains what happened to Vol Opt and Olga Flow...

This is whats known as a Global Killer the "Pale Horse". If this is true then we don't have much time, most of us will be moving to the Planet Oracle soon, by then the virus could mutate into something far worse... we cannot afford to let there be another incident like the MINES all those poor security droids, mindless and infected.

I'm headed back to the lab to [s]put down research more Beasts and hopefully I'll come up with a cure.

The dark side of this rant has finally rose to the surface. I was hopping to keep this a secret for awhile longer but Nitro and his persistent melding has forced me to reveal the final plot a bit early.

After ten years of fighting DF controlled indigenous life on Ragol, then later time warping to the Gurhal system for more eradication of SEED infected creatures. My natural body has taken an unforeseen amount of stress causing certain parts of me to break down and cease functioning. Interesting choice of words Nitro; "two faced", as my right eye and parts of the right side of my face and head have been (for lack of a better word) dying off.

The effects time travel takes on the human body are still unknown and are different for many races. Newmans have a strong constitution for time travel and it doesn't seem to effect them much at all. Their mind power is far superior to the other races and it seems their brains can control blood flow in high quantities therefore reducing their risk of time travel disease by 97% (in PSUs ratio system that roughly equates to; 50-50 odds).

The primitive lifeforms will call Beasts have a very low tolerance for time travel and die instantly.
But enough about sending our pets forward in time...

This whole time I've been telling all of you that I have been searching for a cure that could save us all, I regret to inform you all that I lied. The cure is not for the betterment of mankind (human/newman), the cure is for myself...

You see there is one race that is unscathed completely by the effects of time travel or time it's self. I am speaking of course about the Casts, their parts were the perfect building blocks to my recovery. I had infused my face with a cast mold and had it surgically replace my dying tissue over a year ago. The procedure went as planed without a snag, until the worse part of last year when I made a shocking and despairing discovery... The Casts parts I had used must have housed bits of the SEED virus.

Darkness came over me as SEED virus spread through my body like I have never seen it do to humans before. At first I felt over whelming strength and renewed vigor, -Much like in Spider-man when Peter Parker comes in contacted with the Venom organism- but soon I began to see the darker purpose behind it all. Some how the virus could seep into my thoughts and show me things to come. -Much like in Lord of the Rings when The Eye talks to Frodo each time he puts on the ring- The plan of attack; the global then universal system of controlling each Retardacon to stage the biggest war this galaxy has never seen coming.

At this time I am unsure of my own thoughts, my simple plan was to keep my body at a high physically level, of combat readiness. So that this form of me would be able to make one last time travel journey into PSO2 and planet Oracle. But it seems that which you obsess over and despise most will find away of controlling you in the end... I feel a strange peace now, I feel at one with my Cast parts, this body was weak and now it has gained a certain... Superiority.

I read the first two pages, then the last one to save some time, because I have to say this...

Since Humans created Newmans and Beasts, as well as built CASTs, doesn't that make Humans superior? They started EVERYTHING. Without them, Newmans, Beasts and CASTs wouldn't exist.

Also, the notion of peace among the races of phantasy star is a long shot; Again, Humans created Newmans and Beasts by altering their DNA. The need to be #1 probably still remains. They built the first CASTs, yes, but eventually the CASTs noticed that the Humans weren't as tough as they were. They were knocked out in less hits. Plus, CASTs have superior social skills - They can tune out that annoying kid just by not wanting to deal with him, whereas a Human can't.

All in all, though, I'll stick with Humans and Newmans as my mains. I didn't like the addition of a fourth race - Why bother? The three we had were fine.

But the fact remains that I never heard a word of "Oh I wish there was another race to play as" until PSU came along and dumped Beasts in our laps. My first character (other than Ethan) was a beast, and I didn't enjoy it by the time I hit online mode. I played a Beast Wartecher pre-expansion. I still could if I felt like it, but since my newman has WT 20...I don't. It used to be, want an overpowered character? Make a HUcast or RAcast. Want insane DFP? Make a RAcaseal. Want to be challenged? Make a HUnewearl. And I liked it that way..

Now, don't get me wrong, I also liked the ability to switch my playstyle on a whim in PSU. I had days where I had to ask my friends what missions they were doing just to decide on 3 classes to choose from. It just became tiresome to see people who criticized my love of newmans because "Oh I'm a Beast, I get nanoblast, what do you get? Diga? Ew, I can hit more than that with a b rank saber!" "Oh, I get to call down Missile Barrages and Lasers because I'm a cast. What about you? What? Newmans don't get a special? *boot*." I've been there. It's not fun. It doesn't really happen anymore, but I have a tendency to (unintentionally) choose the class that sucks the most for my character. Newman Guntecher, for instance...

Well, PSU was my first Phantasy Star game, so all I ever knew for the longest time was four races, which is why I'm sad that there are only three present in PSO2. I figure SEGA would add more on, not take away.

Oh well. Sakai did say that races could very well be added in PSO2 expansions. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Also, the people that said Newmans are useless are idiots. Newman Masterforces are insanely powerful.

I feel like pointing this out.....

1st off; gratz on reviving a - what, 3 month old? - thread.

2nd; I see no reason where there's that tendency, I mean, each race has their forte, and the humans are the balanced race. I personally prefer CASTs, mainly because I think that robots are awesome, plus I like guns. So it fits perfectly for me. Beasts are great, too, because they're strong, and the women have a definite charm to them. The neumans are adorable, and excel at magic. And the humans are the melting pot / diverse race.

Oh, btw; Dear cast Supremecists. STFU. fight the SEED, not the other races. from, Enforcer MKV, a fellow cast who doesn't have his head jammed in the oil drum.

What most folks don't know is that PSU has more throwbacks and references to the classic PS series than PSO or any other. In the case of Beasts, they are a homage to the feral Numans of yore, contrasting the tech-heavy PSO/PSU Newman.

So instead of being thought of as being dumped on our laps, they're more of a blast from the past.

So much effort taken in pointing out the difference that even a human child would notice at first glance... all superficial.

Supremacy? Where and when? None of the races are supreme at all.

What do you expect a people to react when they finally realize that they are expendable to the extreme? To bow down and thank their creators? Even the biological races question their gods in times of hardship.

Forget not that we all want to exist. We all want to be free. And we will all fight for that freedom... this is what truly unites all the races.

And as life delivers a blow to your body due to war or some other mishap, as you lay in your hospital bed with an artifical leg, lung, heart, or whatever else was replaced... at what percent do you stop being human and begin to be a Cast?

We are not that different you and I.

But if you stand in my way of my freedom I will end you.
