Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and the reason I am here is to share my Phantasy Star parody comic titled "Phantasy Star *Replay*"

I will definitely make another comic when I'm done with this one, but what it will be, whether another Phantasy Star comic, some other game parody, or an original story, I haven't decided yet. Well. Building a robot that can pilot the thing is a whole different kind of complexity. :) The robot part, itself, is probably easy. Given they can't fly it, it must be a ship with way too complex a control system. Only a doctor as mad as he would do such a thing.

...or if it were the Macross example where the ship was specifically designed to maneuver beyond the capability of human survival. But then, given that people will be riding on this ship, that throws that theory out.

I like this one. If only because it breaks up the content with something different. It sticks out mainly since the primary focus, in that scene, is about the affairs of the monsters while the lead characters are background fodder saying only just as much as to push their story along. Not something you can do all the time, but it really works here because it is rare.

Yeah. The game did pretty much write that joke. Darn old-school RPGs that don't understand context outside of how far in the game you are. 'Bout the only time they say something different is after some major event. (Save Ultima, since that had a conversation system where you can type subjects. Still, the idea was you had to figure out what to say to them and they had exactly one thing to say for each subject they knew.)

In a wierd way, seeing it in comic form, he reminds me of the Paladin from Dragon Quest 2. He also never really got a break, for quite the same reasons.

In the original translation, the fast food joint was supposed to be a medicine or general purpose store, and those burgers and sodas were healing medication. Just like in later PSs. Somehow, they thought changing it for food would make more sense for western audiences.

And because of that, we have wacky misunderstandings like fast food joints selling acids that melt everything. Frankly though, I prefer your explanation.

No problem :) He is actually saying wink, as in he thinks just the physical winking isn't enough so he has to say it as over-kill to get the point across ;)

with all the flashes they sold they could afford it, I guess... didn't really think about that, I always save up for laser shields for everyone, plus spending all the money is important for a later page ;)

I like the selling of flashes 1 at a time, thing. I remember that stuff well. Also, usually when you do the (everybody left real quick) thing, you usually don't have to even draw that much. You can make the outer shapes of them dotted outlines. That's a classic "Wait, they were just there" move.

Wow. That's pretty heavy stuff right there.

Though not exactly a spoiler at this time, I'll do it since the response was especially towards the writer and that some people might come here brand new, and who still have to read this comic from the beginning.

In fact, that scene could work for so many games. Phantasy Star had a lot of those *scratch head* moments, about death and such throughout the series. However, most games (including Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy) never really came up with explanation as to why certain deaths just didn't have them revived as the game world had such simple provisions to resurrect. They just simply displayed them as cinematic and tragic, and for some reason, that meant that the death was permanent.

Phantasy Star did, however, start to try to address the death aspect by coming up with cloning, soon after. That is, death was permanent, but the character could be brought back as a clone though it really isn't the same person. It just has their same body, memories, and such until the time of death. (A game on Xbox called "Brute Force" was all about that where some characters, even by the time the game began, were already 6+ clones in after their original died) By the time Phantasy Star went online, they changed it again. Cloning wasn't practical or exercised. Death was Permanent. For safety reasons, all players could be incapacitated at worst, but they were picked up and resuscitated by whatever Hunters association was in charge of that stuff.

Yes. When I meant later, I meant starting with Phantasy Star 2.

Phantasy Star 1 was both clearly as you said, and what I tried to say. The magic of true resurrection was lost since the days of Phantasy Star 1. To tell the truth, Magic itself sort of was lost after Phantasy Star 1. Civilization only brought some of its effects back as Technics, a sort of magic-like technological science.

Still, this is great stuff. I'd give it the Ali's seal of approval. :)

I actually never played Knights of the Old Republic and never heard of HK-47 until now, I was thinking more of Bender from Futurama when writing this, I may have also stole the meat bag line from another parody comic Persona 3 FTW, but I can't remember since it was about two years ago when I wrote this...

I always wondered about that Doctor. The odd thing is that this comic really isn't far off the mark with him, when you look back at the game. Then again, a good number of people, when you revisit the game, will seem downright out-there.
