Does anyone know when it will be closed?

just wondering if leveling up and paying 10$ a month is still worth it

So you really think people would be playing a game if they new exactly when it was going to be closing?

What?

As long as it's profitable, it will stay open for a while.

If anyone had to guess, probably when PSO2 is released is when it'll start nearing it's end.

I agree with keg here.. once pso2 comes out I personally think half the population will be leaving.

I think that all depends on how it's released. If it's PC JP only then there will probably be a very small dent. Whereas if it was Global 360 there would be a huge drop.

This game isn't gonna be exclusive to japan. Why would sega waste all this time to advertise the shit out of the game if they aren't gonna make a U.S. release? Doesn't make sense.

I honestly think it will be Global. With 360/ps3 out of the way and if SOJ does the updates and not SOA this game may be great. I really don't see SOA doing the updates this time around. They had their chance and dropped the ball big time. With PSO2 I see SOJ doing all the updates not SOA

Huh, you know things are really going down the shitter when people make topics asking when the servers are closing.

PC ONLY...

Not to be rude or anything just really curious. Where do you get all this info on it from? Speculation or is there somewhere I can read up on it some?

It's PC only until we are told otherwise.

The last few press releases that Sakai and the rest of SoJ has done for PSO2 have specifically said "for Windows PC", and nothing else. So, it's pretty much a certainty at this point.

It should work just fine.. I used to use my wired 360 controller for PSU JP.I upgraded to the wireless one. Works a lot better in my eyes anyway.

Just look at the website for PSO2 it clearly says SEGA PC at the bottom of the page.

Nowhere lists 360, ps, etc...

For now, the 360 servers are still very profitable.

They currently have far over double (probably over triple at this point? I don't remember the exact statistics) the population of what the regional PC/PS2 servers had before they shut down.

Yea I agree with Dragwind here.. I say one year tops till they close the server..

Certainly higher than triple, there's 6/7 * on every evening, iirc wasn't the PC stumbling along on 1* by the end? I saw a 143k ID yesterday. I don't think PSO2 will have the effect people seem to think it will, there's nothing else similar on the 360, and at the end of the day a great many console gamers don't play games on PC, and that's all there is to it.

Whether it's worth starting on now is another question though, the lack of new content is a problem.

It's like people have forgotten that they can manipulate the how many players a star is worth.

It's like people have forgotten that they can manipulate the how many players a star is worth.

It's like people have forgotten the PC was so dead sometimes people struggled to find a party.

I suspect 1* is currently 50 people based on counting over a hundred during the last event just in the mission counter and 5th floor lobby, but also considering that fashion shows with 30 people seem to tip it into 1*. I did not check the 4th, casino, other lobbies etc.

If we run with that number, the 360 sees at least (since we can't tell how many are on the half star universes) 350 users at peak time daily.

Still could be 100 given the number of people who hit uni 1 and then idle in their rooms, but it's definitely not the 200 it originally was rumoured to be.

Powder Keg
Jul 29, 2011, 05:16 PM
They probably wouldn't even know how to edit the number it takes to make a star.

It's probably still around 100.

What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't work to compare PC/PS2 stars near shutdown to current 360 when their values can vary.

I agree that 360 will probably live on for a wile still, there isn't really anything else like it on 360 so likely it'll live on from scarce competition.

I think no matter how it's released ppl will leave psu american version. But, ppl will always play the xbox 360 version just because it is on xbox and some ppl just dont like pc games.

This is True but most of the high end players will be leaving.. most of them already went to JP this past month.. :D

Actually, most "High-end" players who play JP version also still have the 360 version. If you cancel your account, they don't delete it so they are mostly enjoying the JP version until 360 gets a new event or better stuff. Don't be fooled, 360 isn't as good but I suspect it might outlast the JP one a great deal once PSO2 comes out over there.

This is very true.. but Knowing Sega track record. After the release of PSO2 they will most likely shut off the 360 servers soon after. Let's face it the 360 servers in SOJ eyes has been a pain since release date. I actually think they want us to quit at this point. With lack of support, update constant F ups after updates/Maint must I go on?

Now Edward is pulling this "Hey let me see if we can get a DLC package. People with the game ending soon and PSO2 on the horizon do you honestly think that SOJ is going to say yes let's go this for the USA/EU players.. even Edward said it himself there all working on PSO2 and with the little bit of staff they have, they wont have anyone to do this so called DLC Package for us.

I am going to go ahead and bump this topic instead of making a new one since it is pretty similar to my question.

I used to play PSU on the PC long ago, before it shut-down. Now with PSO2 getting closer I've gotten an urge to play a Phantasy Star game again, a friend and I started playing PSOBB, but since we're both old PSU players we kind of miss the game now.

So my question is, are the 360 servers active? Are there many players? Is it easy to find groups, are people friendly etc?

And while on that line, how much does a subscription to the 360 version cost? Also, am I correct in saying that you don't need a xbox live gold membership, but merely a hunters license to play? I have the game for 360 already, but I don't have a subscription and I don't really have a clue how it works.

$10 a month and you do not need a gold membership. As far as I know the population is still pretty good :)

Yep, the Ambition of the Illuminus expansion is free now too (and mandatory). As for people... you can usually find a group at the current hot spot. Right now it's at Falz Memoria off the Guardians Colony, afterwards it'll likely move back to White Beast, even though Distant Memory is a faster mission. And as for friendly... I'm friendly, at least! I've had problems getting booted from parties recently, but as long as you don't take it personally it's no big deal; start your own team at a hotspot and people will usually join up.

Japan PC version is also an option; if you remember what most of the icons represent there's not a lot more to learn. I can make out three or four moon runes, and it's enough to tell which item is what most of the time. And damage is still done in numbers! The Japanese client can be downloaded for free from the official site, and the default membership is Free Course, where you can do just about anything except go to your room (including synthing and player shops) and trade with other players, all for the bargain price of... nothing!
