View Full Version : Quick question about classes...

Can anyone confirm that once you've left the character creation phase, your stuck as that class?

I've no problem with that, and quite liked having both a Hunter and Ranger in PSO, but it does seem a little dated when you look at other MMOs.

I think you'll be able to change your class type whenever you want. like in PSU.

at least I heard that could be in PSO2.

It was basically fully implied that class changing (or having sub classes) will be available, although you will have to level that class separately of the other two.

The screenshots we have seen list 'main class' and 'sub class', so we may be able to only change the sub class. We have too little information on this.

That's cool. Would be great if it stacks up the available weapons / stats. So a RAcast with a sub job of Hunter could use the same weapons as a hunter, but not a Force. With the sub job being swappable, you could mix a match, but never have everything at once, and never fully move away from your original class.

Well, I don't know whow will that be but I'd rather not have that exactly.

I mean the part about the RAcast sub Hunter having access to the same weapons as if it was a hunter, because then, a HUcast with sub RA and a RAcast with sub HU would have access to the same weapons.

I would say that it'd be better if the sub class allowed for some of the weapons and stuff, that way a HU subRA would be a mainly hunter with better RA weapons than a simple Hunter, and a RA subHU would be a ranger with better melee weapons than a simple Ranger, but they would be still mainly Hunter and Ranger.

A good point there dude. And I guess we'll have 4 character slots at least, so there is always an option available should you absolutely need to use a weapon.

Well, 4 has always been the number of slots as far as I remember. I would actually prefer if they were more, because I have only one computer that seems able to run the game and this time we will be two people playing it in one account, but that's personal issue. xD

I could have sworn they announced that you level each main class separately, thus suggesting that you can switch classes.

So, more like FF XIV? I'd go for that. It allows for people that play more than others to level sideways rather that just further up than those with a full time job and other commitments.

In FFXI you are able to level any and all jobs and have any other jobs as a subjob to whatever you've got as your main job. Whatever the level of the support job is as if it were a main job, it was still limited to half the level of what your current main job was, unless that subjob's main level was less than half of your current main job's level of course.

You were limited to the stats and offerings of your subjib to the level it existed as a sub. For example, if you level black mage to 65, then switch your main job to red mage at 58 with a black mage subjob, you're only going to get the benefits of black mage up to level 29.

I think we're going to have similar limitations with our sub classes in PSO2, which I think would work wonderfully.

They made a statement that skills learned as one class won't be available as other classes. This implicitly confirms class changing.

I would say it looks more like a standard level up system, with the option to start all over again as another class without creating a new character. It will look more like a horizontal growth if they stretch the game out with level caps, as they did in PSU, but otherwise I would expect to see more single class commitments and switching when playing with a lower level group of friends.

Of course, they have not explained how the subclass options will work so far, but they did explicitly say that skills from one class do not work on another, so it will be quite different from the FF11 style.

^This. And actually, I'm pretty sure it was that when you learn a skill as a class, it can't be equipped when playing as another class.

Why Would You Bother Switching Classes When You Can Have 8 Different Character Slots???

It's Pretty Much Completely Unnecessary If You Ask Me.

Because I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a Square Enix, and only gave you 1 character slot and charged an additional fee for each new character slot.

Callin' it right now.

Depending on the extent to which character race is factored into stats, the statistical discrepancy can actually go a long way toward defining the way in which a race/class group plays.

That is, an Android Hunter may have a very different playstyle to a Human or Newman one. In PSO, this was primarily due to the absence of techniques and (post-Dreamcast) the addition of traps. Considering that Androids in PSO2 can apparently cast techniques, this will probably still be relevant to some extent, because it makes much more sense for Humans and Newmen to have a distinct advantage in that field over them.

At the same time, people may be attached to a given character, so they decide to change classes and play that same character as multiple classes.

Also, could you please stop the unnecessary capitalization of every word?

There are three classes and three races. That is nine characters, even without the gender aspect. So, unless there are eighteen character slots, class switching might be useful to the most hardcore PSO player.

But they didn't put up any info about how sub-class mechanics go.

Maybe, the skills you level are bound to your class, but you can actually transfer some of the skills of a different class via sub-class.

I usually make AT LEAST 4 characters. You can switch class but you can't switch gender or race! I don't know how many slots there are gonna be in PSO2, but there's no way they only give us one, as Colaya has called. I'd say Last Baron is closest with 8, ala PSPo2.

How can you be so sure?

Also, 8 slots is kinda wishful thinking.

¿Did You Guys Ever Hear About The Male CAST Who Had Played Every Class In PSU And Tried To Go To The Casino?

If there are certain factors to monsters like needing the chain whip or whatever it's called to take off its armor for massive damage, then there has got to be similar "weakness triggers" for each class, and that would make leveling them all pretty beneficial.
