For anyone that wants to use the JP PSU translator, it is now working(chat and drops)

This is meant for Windows 32bit but I am using 64bit (windows 7) and it still works.

The programs I downloaded are:
1)Python 2.6.2 Link: http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.2/
Click on the Windows X86 MSI Installer

2)Download this
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gladewin32/files/gtk%2B-win32-runtime/2.12.9/gtk-2.12.9-win32-2.exe/download

3) http://keyoftwilight.com/psujp/GTK64bit.zip (install the registry file, I believe this is for 64bit only, not sure)

4) http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/binaries/win32/pycairo/1.4/pycairo-1.4.12-2.win32-py2.6.exe

5) http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/binaries/win32/pygobject/2.14/pygobject-2.14.2-2.win32-py2.6.exe

6) http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/binaries/win32/pygtk/2.12/pygtk-2.12.1-3.win32-py2.6.exe

Then download this zip file
http://soukosa.amesani.org/psu/file/psujpt-0.1.1.zip
Open the file psujptcfg and modify the log path to where your PSU logs are

You also need to put a \\ after the word Log in the Logs Path location

So line 9 will look like this

Logspath = "C:\Users\Admin\Document\Sega\Phantasy Star Universe Illuminus\Logs\\" or something close to that, depending what your folder names are.

Credit goes to Essen for developing the program
AIDA for hosting the files
Soukosa for the modified version of the program.

Can anyone confirm if it works well?

Are the drops translated manually, or simply ran through a translator in-game?

It translates by looking at the Log files that PSU create. Chat, Drops and Casino.

Drops it refers to Amesani. Chat it runs them trough Google translate. (Casino I never tried.)

Also it's a Separate Window from PSU so you'll have to be running PSU windowed.

I'm confused as how it's supposed to be run and what not, explain it to me like I'm five years old.

Did you remember to put the path of your logs in line 9 of the file psujptcfg file?

line 9 should read:
logspath = "Path of your logs"

also you need to put \\ after the word "Log"

so it will look like this

logspath = c:\Documents\admin\Sega\Phantasy Star Illuminus\Logs\\"

That's why I don't use the translator, it will stop working when Amesani shuts down, and will gradually drift out of date. Plus of course it's a useful way of forcing yourself to learn kana.

I mainly use it for when I'm in random parties to see what they're saying.

Thank the Gods I don't need a translator to understand what people are telling me in parties.......

"Hi, we are PSU players....we try to convince others we are mighty and elite, yet in playing for so long we refuse to learn the language even though we play in Japan, but we have no problem telling people in our nations to go learn our national language."

I give credit to anyone who learned Kana and basic to simple Japanese for some communication and I look down upon anyone who depends on a translation program for everything.

It's not much good for conversations but have you tried learning kana? It's not very difficult and I'm finding it quite enjoyable. I can recognise about 50% of the basic kana now, and some of the extended, plus isolated japanese words in kanji (seal / 封 (fuu) is one you'll pick up very quickly) - it's taken 4 weeks of general gameplay rather than actual studying. It's a great feeling when you manage to translate your first few items without having to look at a chart or website, and even better when you start succeeding on a few english -> kana translations to look things up.

Reading katakana is easy but I know what ya mean when you can get an item and automatically know what it is.

It does alright for convos but usually gives ya an idea on what they are saying.

I know Hiragana ok. And I know what an item is when it drops. I just wanted 2 get it working so that I can see what the JP players are saying in random parties. Its no big deal.
