The Latest PSO3 TCBG Project

"Yet another one..." you are saying to yourself? Well I've always wanted to do this for some time but ever had the drive. Well with summer almost over I can reveal what I've been up to for the past 3 months. I realise that ZkDash is also running a project thread and I don't want to step on any toes but he hasn't posted in his thread for over a month now.

I've been working hard on not only the cards but also the game mechanics and have been through several revisions of how the game is going to work before coming up with the current rule set. For fans of the game much of the workings are going to be very much identical to the GC version but little bits here and there had to be altered to suit a non-copmputer environment.

So far all the work I've done has been uploaded to a message board I created to upload everything to. Its not the most flashy place but it does the job.

Here's a few samples, the rest of the cards are available on the board. The cards and rules are all Alpha versions at the moment and I'm still making edits as I notice problems. I would really appreciate any opinions you guys have and also if you spot any problems do let me know.

Well I got a new card style to show you guys. I've been fine editting the layout so it looks a little more insync with itself, before it was a bit mismatched. I also noticed a fair few errors on the cards I'd already done. Most were just spelling mistakes but one or two were pretty major. I'm hoping to have the full card list done by next weekend.

I haven't really had the chance to post in this thread, nor the other one, but what do you suppose the odds are of including some of the cards that never made it into the final version of Episode 3? The illustrations for many cards (such as Delsaber, Hildetorr, Guom Trap, and Egg Blaster) still exist in the data. Their effects are also intact, but the cards themselves were never actually implemented, and can only be accessed via hacking devices.

Most of the cards that were never put into the final version were either deemed overpowered, underpowered, or frequently came with the abilities Time Bomb or Drain. Nonetheless, I think it would be interesting to see at least some of them restored.

Its funny you should mention them, I was made aware of them not so long ago and I am investigating the possibility of including them. I'd like to include them to be honest as there are some good cards in that group and it would be great to expand this project beyond the original bounds of the game.

Once I've finished all the regular cards I intend to check through the other ones and see what I can do. If a card is over/under powered or whatever I will look into changing it so it will be more fair. So yeah, watch this space.

I've also taken the liberty of correcting various things I've noticed with the cards that seemed off. On big thing is the top bar colours. ((% of the weapon and creature cards had just red even if they caused status effects, had rampage/pierce, or had death abilities. So I've corrected those issues to bring things in line with the guard cards (which I'm currently working on in addition to all the other action cards).

More double posting action. Yes sorry for that but I got more news. I've been hard at work running through the cards and I'm pleased to announce that I have successfully completed all the remaining cards, thats action, assist and character. Having a template certainly helped but its taken me a fair few late nights to get them all done all the same. I don't have time to post them up now but I'll do that later today at some point.

I'm also well into writing the rules up, theres just a few more things I need to add in and then they will more or less be completed baring any major oversights on my part. I have also finished a selection of counters that can be used to denote where creatures and characters are on the field.

And speaking of field, here's a little look at one of the battle maps I've been working on. I only have a few completed but I'll be working more heavily on them now that the cards are done.

Can you possibly make two pdf files (one for heroside, one for darkside) with cards arranged for printing 12 cards per page on standard letter sized cardstock?
3 copies of every card in each pdf (except for event cards for which there should only be one of each.) Enough for one player to have complete Hunter or Arkz deck construction.
Also include a page of card backs and a page of the character/monster counters and their backs with character/monster names and 3 copies of each monster counter except for event monsters so they can be printed aswell please.

I'm still working on a printing set of my completed cards, not found an easy way to create a pdf file yet but I'll keep working on it. Well I've finally finished the first version of my card print sets. Sorry it's taken me so long but I kept going back and forth through the cards picking up on little details I wanted to change or weren't happy with. But yeah, I have to release them all eventually so I guess I'll let you guys tell me how they shape up.

In the file below you'll find 5 different PDF files, one for story characters, one for weapons, one for creatures, one for action cards, and finally one for assist cards. They are arranged in a 3x3 grid on each page with 3 copies of each card included. I should point out that this pack contains only the original cards as the unreleased cards are still being worked on. I will also be relaeasing updated versions of this pack as I add new things. The next likely addition will be a page of card backs, counters and a selection of battle maps.

Finally I want to mention the rules. I know a lot of people here will have played the original game but some won't have, and even if you have I have had to change a few things in the rules to fit a non-computer based environment. I've created a message board that displays all the cards and rules I've so far finished. If you'd like to check it out please do so. Ok guys, college and work have been sitting on me heavily for a while but I have been fiddling with things as and when I can.

I got a question for you all. I'm pondering on the card size. At the standard size (63x88mm) the text on some cards gets a little difficult to read. I'm concidering using an enlarged size comparable to the arch enemy cards used in magic, so about 88x126mm. This way the text is clearer. The question is, do you think this would be too big to manage properly? You will only ever be holding 6 cards maximum and it would give more space for keeping track of hp stats and so forth. What you you think?

Ok, new info time. I've been working on my template again tonight and have completely overhauled the entire structure. I'm thinking of possibly doing a folding type card so I don't have to cram everything on the same page. I've formatted all the cards so that they will print at the correct size. I guess I don't understand how that will fold... is it meant to be two cards? If just one card then why have such a weird back, why not a dual panel front and a mono back design?

I got it now. I would say a quad folded card is too much, even for casual play. I'd rather barely be able to read it than have a bunch of folded paper. It you redesign the card into something like you have in the upper portion of the pic there, a side by side with all the text in the right half/pic on the left... maybe it'll afford you more space to type out the rules? It would be sort of like the 2 in 1 MTG cards, 2 cards side by side style-ish.

If not that then I'd say make a squarish card... 6 cards per 8x10 sheet. 2 wide by 3 tall. Why limit yourself to typical dimensions of cards?

The problem with having the cards side by side is that they will be near impossible to shuffle properly, that's why I went for the folded model. I figured I'd use the magic size for the cards as then it would be possible to get card sleaves for them. I've taken a picture of a version of this card that I printed out.

But yes, the folding could get quite drastic on some cards, especially those with lots of skills. *ponders* I'm wondering if I should use an idea I was working on back when I first started this project. I was using a word file to keep track of all the skills as I went through, perhaps I could make a little skill book that contains all the skills.

I think you should just make the cards look like the first panel of the folding style cards. remove the skill descriptions and just include a seperate skill reference book. Some of the skills have little differences that can be noted by the skill on the card. Because it uses ALOT more paper to print a bunch of folding cards.

For example the Freeze skill:
On Zol Gibbon it would be "> Freeze 6+" indicating that you need to roll a 6 or higher.
On Del Depth it would be "> Freeze 3+" indicating that you need to roll a 3 or higher.

And the Ally Bonus skill:
On Del Rappy it would be "> Full Ally Bonus +2" indicating that you get an additional 2 AP on top of the AP Bonus that is equal to all of the items on your team.
On Ul Gibbon it would be "> 1/2 Ally Bonus" indicating that the AP bonus is equal to half of the items on your team.

And the Leader skill:
On Barbarous Wolf it would be "> Savage Wolf Leader" indicating that the Leader buff applies to the Savage Wolves.

Flatlands allows an Arkz player to place their monsters anywhere on the field. So yes you can summon a Delbiter right next to your opponent at the other side of the field. It only affects the player who used it and has an infinite time span unless someone overrides it. ^^

It would be interesting to see how that would turn out. Set a maximum HP/AP/TP/MV and Max Stat Total for the Hunter and Arkz factions, and then include Abilities (and for the Arkz, attack range), as well as how much they should subtract from the point total. I'm sure that with a bit of work, a set of character creation regulations could be created. It'd be interesting to see what kinds of characters could be created with this.

The Nei's claw pic is the only one that exists so unfortunetely I can't do anything about it. As for Kamui, you must be thinking of Two Kamui which was a dagger. Kamui was a normal katana.

Kamui had a katana animation, but looked like a tanto (dagger) :

If you look at Kamui compared to other katanas like Sange, Yasha, Yamigarasu it's much smaller.

The only reason Kamui had a katana animation is because single daggers didn't exist in PSO.

Thanks, glad you like it. Well here's something new for people to have a lookie at, the alpha version of the character creation rules! When I dug them out I found that I'd actually done a lot of work on them previously, more than I thought I had. I had to change a few things here and there to fit it in with the current version but overall the rules weren't too bad.

Very not bad, but definitely needs some tweeks. the special ability haste, especially on a hunter side character is absolutely broken. especially if you make 1 with 3-4 move. Also the MV scale is a bit high. 4 mv in general should not be handed out so easily. Hunewearl Hunters having 4 move is absurd as is. Maybe implement some kind of stat swap system so u can trade a point of AP for a point of MV or something instead of it being increased by what character u pick. but ya, mv shuldnt be taken so lightly. Silfer had 3ap 2mv. Saligun had only 2 ap but 3 mv. Stella had 1 ap and 4 move. maybe this should apply to tp for forces as well? Having 3 atp and 4mv is setting the bar waaay too high especially if created with the special ability haste lol. maybe if u keep haste in there maximum move should be set to 2 and maybe even have a ap/tp deficit as well, no exceptions. Limited Action on a SC is also incredibly broken, especially on a hunter side character wielding multiple weapons/guns, i dont think i shuld need to explain this lol, but it might be ok for arkz though. the ability elude shuld also have a hp defecit maybe? another suggestion is +2 hp more for base on arkz is a bit low. i was thinking arkz shuld have maybe around +3 base hp? 1 last thought i was thinking maybe allow a point of ap or a point of tp to be purchaesed for those who want to take no abilities. these are just thoughts and suggestions. a fun and great idea you have going on here! keep it up!

Ok small preview time. I've been working on a few ideas for my Episode 4 expansion and I've come up with the following....EVOLUTION!

A new rule that I'm playing with to mimic some of the things that actually happen in PSO. Basically a card with the Evolution rule will evolve into a new card on the battlefield when certain criteria are met. Here's an example.

Lame D'Argent, pretty poor stat line right? Well when the criteria are met it will evolve. In this case you need to perform 10 kills with the weapon and it will evolve into Excalibur.

And gain a much more powerful weapon. Excalibur is marked as an evolution only weapon so you can only play it if you fulfill the evolution critera. And this card also links with another...

This is all just rough and draft right now so it may be a little unbalanced but do tell me what you think of the ideas.

definitely an interesting idea but keeping any 1 weapon thats not so good alive for a certain amount of kills is not an easy feat especially when playing pvp. this is especially going to be difficult for a low class wep that is going to be a big kill target. not a bad idea though but id say a maximum of maybe 3-5 kills to get that evolve. im assuming ur allowing any weapon, tech, or action card to count as kills for this as long as the lame'd is equipped like how it works in psobb? im definitely a big fan of the tellusis and excal link though. i personally recommend just making them 2 seperate cards and keeping them in sync with their psobb counterparts since ep3 in general does a pretty dam good job of doing this. i like how u did the stats and abilities on the excal, but to kinda keep it in sync i was thinking u culd just make it a good weapon and give it steady damage or something to match its hp rape in bb. if u were to do the evolve thing tho id say theres no reason to have to gimp the lamed all that much really and just make it reasonable for its cost. your opponent/s knowing what the card does r going to make it a huge must kill target before it evolves as is. since excal is a steady damage weapon technically u can buff it up a bit more than the lame and keep it the same cost on evolve due to it being a hp draining weapon since most if not all steady damage weapons are buffed up quite a bit more than other items of the same cost. 5 cost is definitely good cost. keeps it from being paired with things like god shield genbu til u get the evolve. make tellusis 2 cost tho so can still equip a 2nd weapon!!! :o

well thats the whole idea! dont take me the wrong way im just throwing in my 2 cents! not trying to tell you how to do this just throwing out some suggestions! i love u for doing all this work in the first place! <3 so do what you want to do. just trying to help n put some extra thoughts in ur head! not trying to discourage you in the least! id absolutely love to see you implement the psobb items and im always up for having new abilities, etc.
