I looked up the nexus website for Fallout mods. I checked not long after New Vegas was released and there wasn't a great deal of activity. I'm happy to say they've now added a lot. NMC has got to work on textures again, and again it's absolutely breathtaking the changed he has made. Why oh why do Betheasda not employ him, compared to vanilla textures this is leaps and bounds ahead, a very patient and talented mod. It's incredible how much time people dedicate to making the game content even more amazing.

I took some screens and I'll add them here, I tried on FB but it downsizes resolutions and just looks vile. Mods include NMC texture pack, (huge texture resolutions). Re-textured guns, new hi res blood decals, new energy weapon sounds and effects, new weather effects and darker night skies, new radio stations, new costumes and weaponry, more foliage and new plants and trees. I've only spent a couple of hours modding and taking screens so there'll be more to come in terms of content and screens no doubt, I just got all excited and thought i'd show you all.

I hope, like Oblivion, that Skyrim will be released with software allowing people to create more game content because the modding community for recent Bethesda releases has been amazing. ^^

Use Spoiler Boxes, dude. Come on.

Spoiler-box. Seriously.

Also, not particularly impressive.

Hmm don't see why not using a spoiler box is such an issue just ctrl and wheel on the mouse, not the biggest inconvenience in the world. Anyway, regarding what's impressive, well I think 1 person re-texturing 70+% of textures in the game (7GB and the game itself on PC is less than 7GB) with near photo realistic equivalents for no money just a love of the game is very very impressive. I certainly couldn't do it, and if I did have the skills I wonder if I'd have the dedication to see it through to the end. The modded Oblivion, F3 and New Vegas put every game I can think of to shame graphically. I suppose it depends, if you didn't enjoy the game then it wouldn't seem impressive. But if you've played it a lot and really taken it in then, as with F3 and Oblivion it is truely astonishing to see what people have done with the game and what a PC and a committed fan-base is truly capable of.

But anyone who has played it would see the massive difference in textures, and for those who haven't see below.. I played 350+ hours and it's got a bit dull now, i'm thankful for the modding community adding new content and a breath of fresh air to the game....I do need to tweak the outdoors brightness because daytime is very...vivid. Luckily the weather mod comes with all kinds of adjustable settings so it suits the need of individual players ^^

Here's some comparisons, no doubt people will state the old "graphics aren't everything" it's true but when you can have awesome looking textures why not go for it. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do to Skyrim after release. Friends of mine say it won't need modding but I think that's just silly, any game no matter how hyped up gets boring after a lot of play time and the addition of new content and better gfx outside of the DLC is always enjoyable to see and play.

Maybe because it's fucking obnoxious to post a truckload of giant pictures in a thread without any kind of warning? It wreaks havoc on people's browsers and computer trying to load these massive goddamned image files all at once. It's common courtesy to use spoiler boxes.

While they loaded fine for me (my monitor is bigger than his I guess), you really ought to spoiler box those for the sake of my scroll wheel.

And because the default screens look like shit.

is the main reason i want the PC ver. beside the obvious high-end graphic.
Oblivion has a lot of great mods. :cat:

i like the original Fallout 3 and it's modding community. i got a little bore
with the game, so i didnt bother with New Vegas either. maybe the mods
are spoiling me too many. oh well.

I agree Xefi, well it's the same with any game if it's on PC why would you downgrade and buy it for a console, it makes no sense at all, spending more money on the game itself, having it look worse, and worst of all buying any form of shooting game. Although admittedly the shooting physics and feel on F3 and NV aren't the best at all, luckily the Fallout Wiki helpes with finding weapons with little spread although admittedly F3 was worse with aiming, even with the ironsights mod and a fully repaired weapon you'd be lucky if it shot straight at a distance, now it could be consdiered they took distance, wind and other advanced phsyics into account like the Sniper games...but no I think it's just shoddy worksmanship.

Storywise F3 was dull, side quests were much more interesting, I can see why you got a bit bored, but for me Bethesda releases has enthralled me since the Morrowind days. Sure all their single player RPG games are nauseatingly formulac but the attention to detail and sheer volume of things to do never ceases to amaze. The setting felt more oppressive in F3 which I really did enjoy, the BGM is good, the radio stations too short, thus the mods helped no end. Especially Existence 2.0. Seriously I cannot recommend that radio station enough it is amazing and dark and that with the darker nights mod makes exploring the wasteland a genuinely scary experience and I play and watch no end of horrors and they're all meh and unimpressive imo (in terms of scaryness, things that make you jump are beyond predictable) but those 2 simple mods got me going.. But what really helped F3 was the DLC in terms of narrative and the setting of Point Lookout was awesome.

But the story for NV is much more interesting plus it's more faction driven too so you can make impressions whether they're good or bad on a multitude of different groups of people. Multiple endings too, but it's rather slow starting in all honesty, then as soon as you get to NV it felt rather rushed with everyone wanting your help as soon as you set foot in the door it seemed to me to be a rather sharp narrative curve, with an overhang.

However I must admit I struggled to enjoy NV at first, I'd played F3 fully modded for so long when I got to NV it just hurt my eyes how shoddy the graphics looked and it took a long time to stomach it (yes i'm that gfx orientated (shallow) thus people stating NV modded looks "ok & unimpressive" is ill informed and blind imo). But NV is a totally different game, they actually paid attention to the modding community and added a lot of what F3 modders did to NV, it's a shame they didn't pay attention to radios, it's beyond diabolical. Within 30 mins the songs are repeating themselves, however the BGM is a lot more atmopsheric (reminiscent of Existence 2.0 from F3 which has been added to NV now in a mod too ^^ )

I haven't got on so well with DLC for NV, I mean i've completed them but it didn't feel as enjoyable, I hope the final one, like Point Lookout in F3, is the largest. But Bethesda have really rushed the DLC for NV, all 4 within a year is a bit excessive it's just rushed money making tripe. I guess everything concentrated towards Skyrim on the whole, but a little more care and attention does pay off, oblivion was a masterpiece, it's just a shame in our entertainment generation that so much gets hyped nowadays. Usually there's no point paying attention to is because it means nothing but Skyrim is going to be amazing without a doubt Unlike mass produced garbage like COD or Assassin's Creed.

I just hope DLC for Skyrim isn't as rushed as NV because that could ruin things. Oh well I have got 2 weeks off work for the release of Skyrim to fully enjoy it and play it to death :D But I'd recommend checking out NV, plus being a single player game it's easier to download without issue :P
