Most of these were posted as youtube links in the other thread once upon a time. I thought it would be nice to have a centralized resource without having to dig through 120 pages and download just to view.

What about the "Ranger + Hunter" video Mizunos posted?

That was one of my favorite forest videos so far. It's not the most beautiful encode, but it has a 480p feed, no glaringly horribad compression, decent framerate. But I mainly liked it for the playstyle, and showing off critters I hadn't seen before
Of course, it's on Youtube. An alternate site would be great, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Edit: Thanks for posting this topic, too. I think the most common justification for not doing this earlier was that you'd be putting a big "Take down all these videos HERE" sign up, which made sense to me. Since the Alpha is over, it doesn't seem quite as necessary.

Damn, rangers with assault rifles look so much better in this game than any other Phantasy Star game I've seen to date. I might actually be tempted to level one this time around.
Yes, this is the first time I see this, which is exactly why this topic is awesome.

I STILL don't feel comfortable with any of these weapons yet...

Hopefully this game gets a lot deeper, because right now our weapon palettes don't look like they need more than 2 weapon types...

Maybe more types will pop up by the beta... I'll be scratching my head if this game is going to open up with less than 6 weapon types...

The more I played PSU and its spinoffs, the more I realized as a hunter that I can have any melee weapon equipped, and it wouldn't really matter. It's a shame, I went into some pains to plan stuff out. I had my heavy weapon for high defense mobs, light weapons for low defense mobs, ranged weapons for fast moving enemies and fliers, an AoE weapon, a single target weapon... And in the end, I just spammed majarra like everyone else.
Contrast to PSO, where I was flowing from one weapon to another every other second without thinking, having up to 5 which I used constantly. Single target DpS, single target defense, AoE, ranged AoE, ranged single target, I think were my choices.

That's kinda what I'm hoping for. Each weapon has a style and a strength, and you'd have to chose one for a particular situation. Switch to spear to take out a big enemy, switch to daggers to dance around a slow enemy, switch to rifle to get a flier, switch to partisan for a group...

Wow, I think I just repeated myself three times. Well, erm, I'm sure the game will gain depth. Alpha just means that they're testing out the core of the game, making sure the basics work. They flesh out other things after that. And besides, aren't there only 2 weapons out anyway? I'm sure there'll be a reason to fill the four other slots.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Just added to the list as "Forest Cast Ranger" I haven't seen that bird enemy yet.
and you're absolutely right, I didn't want to post the links during the actual test when all attention was on it, I did however post a link to a page with them all embedded in the same place but it was removed for whatever reason.

Also, if anyone has a link to the video of the force that was using "telepipe looking things" send it my way and I'll add it to the main post. I found one with edited music but would prefer to have the original up.

Personally, I thought it was very pertinent to the thread, but a lot of forums enforce such rules strictly without regard to circumstance (for reasons that are solid, but not always obvious looking at it from the outside). In this case it's not a big deal since they let you put it in your sig. :-)

I've linked your site to a couple of friends to show them some Alpha videos, although for whatever reason I do prefer linking to a thread like this instead. Maybe it's the default background colors, the layout, or the fact that it's PSO World. So anyway, it would be great if you just kept this one up to date. I'm still waiting for the Beta Videos 1.0 thread to pop up... :D In the meantime, back to lurk.

Where's are you "hearing" this o_o

Anyhow I actually liked that there were 2342353 different weapon types, and you can just grab whatever you want and build up a battle plan. I dunno where this uncomfortable talk is coming from.

The only thing that bugged me was the whole "everyone can do everything" system PSP2 had, in which people just used it to put blade destruction on every class anyway. But there was nothing wrong with it if your play style was actually original. I just didn't like the way the way all of that freedom under one of 4 name tags felt.

I agree. Gunslash seems versatile enough to probably handle most situations in the game. And it should, i guess; it's the saber and handgun of the game afterall. (Im surprised they gave it an ability to launch enemies though....) Sword looks like it's fast enough and powerful enough to plow through most situations as well, having a blowaway, a ground > air launcher and a air > ground launcher.

But Rangers though? Rifle looks far too OP right now. I really don't see much room for any other weapons to be honest -- you can fire that thing all day (probably without combo), you can air launch with the explosion i think, it has multiple ammo types....I think Rifle just gives way too much mobility. You should move much slower while shooting, there seems to be no sacrifice to just strafing and destroying whatever you're fighting. Either that, or it needs to have crappy damage or the accuracy needs to decay much better for such a low-level rifle. I understand TPS, but for the sake of the "RPG" part of the game, you shouldn't have perfect accuracy just because of TPS at the start of the game IMO. I can see Rangers quickly becoming the pro class of the game. They dish out damage but literally never have to be in danger. Makes sense for a real rifle user, but you have to make some practical sacrifices for the weapon type. Accuracy or Damage is
a good start.

I WILL admit though, I saw one video where a ranger was Soloing a pack of Savage Wolves (like 3 of them), and the way they spread out and tried to flank her looked very, very nice and difficult to deal with. If they were actually attacking with any real frequency, she might have been in trouble. I guess the Rifle's one real weakness is being able to only focus on a singular target. So yeah, there are plenty of ways to balance it out. I'd say, they should limit how well you can control the rifle (how quick the screen scrolls in TPS, or how accurate the gun fires, or BOTH) for lower level rifles. So as you go from Green -> Gold rifle (nearing rare), your rifle becomes perfectly accurate, but at lower levels you're forced to use more situational weapons.

tl;dr, yeah I agree. Weapons have started looking much, much less situational since PSP2 came along. In Phantasy Star Universe, weapons were still a bit situational, until the few broken ones came along (chikki, jarbroken, majarra). But i do remember constantly switching to stay alive at mid levels in PSU.

Where the "situational weapons" part was taken away is when all weapons started gaining the ability to launch and knockdown entire crowds of enemies, or completely outdamage other weapons regardless of their original purpose. Like Blade Destruction or Dus Skad. Or Charge shot 1&2. This is why eventually, in PSP2 i just completely lost the need to constantly switch weapons unless i was chaining or something. I think the absolute biggest thing that forced me to switch in PSP2 was actually Accuracy, since getting all your shit blocked was quite annoying.

Definitely, especially on the ranger parts... I understand they wanted them to be more fun and fast paced. But I'm hoping they're not sacrificing versatility for it...

I remember in PSU days a lot of people went on about how it'd be cool to get assault rifles. But the first then that popped into my head was machine gun + rifle + glue = all other guns useless.

I definitely agree with Mich and Remius, I'm definitely thinking that rifles need to be toned down a good deal to allow other weapons to shine. I mean, part of the reason I love PSU (Yes, I love it, I still play it. Haters can sod off.) is because of the fact that you have different weapons for different situations. Large single target with one hard point? Boom, rifle. Need to deal with mobile enemies? Boom, Twin pistols. Large group of small targets? Go for the ever lovin' Laser Cannon. Large enemy with multiple hard points? GRENAAAAAAAAAAADE Launcher!

And that was just ranger, don't even get me started on my HUcaseal. (Wait, did I just....? Oh, screw it! PSO NAMING CONVENTIONS!!!)

Oh, and I demand Spears with an AOE option. And Knuckles. And De Ragon Slayer 2.0.

....oh, and a Laser Pannon, can't forget that!

I personally don't really care for the idea of switching out weapons for different situations, but seeing as how the palette as returned that's probably the direction they're going for.

I see weapon-choice in game almost as an extension of your class and unique personalization. I suppose it makes more sense to constantly be swapping guns as a RA, since it kind of goes with the concept of being a 'space marine' type, but I've always felt that HUs are identified by their weapon-type choice. Maybe it's because I grew up on JRPGs, but I'd find it weird to see Nei wielding an Axe, or Odin/Tyrone flipping around with daggers.

PSP2 had weapon specialization through the Type Abilities system and I thought that was perfect! I'm hoping there will be something similar in PSO2.

that sounds alright, specializing if you want to. But It's kinda nice to be using a Spear, then you decide that knuckles might be handy, so you go to them, but then a big monster appears and you have to bring down the hurt, so you switch a claymore and drop it on his face. I'm a spear/knuckle guy myself, but variety is the spice of life, right?

Targe Shield or Studded buckler > any type of 'knuckles' weapon.

Plus a large heater or SWAT-type shield.

Ultimate Defense + Heavy Close-range melee.

With armor you'd be like a damn armadillo when defending and a charging wall when offensive.

If photon whips can be a viable weapon-type, then a combat shield isn't too far fetched.

Twin Shields? It'd likely end up being something like Gundam F91's Beam Shield Sabers, maybe? It's a mix of twin sabers and twin energy shields. It's PSO, so energy shields aren't out of the question, right? At least, I always thought that they were energy shields, I could be wrong.

Essentially, it's a plane of visible energy jutting out from your forearm that can either be used defensively by holding your arm as though you were mounting a shield on it, or slicing an enemy with its narrow edge like swinging a katarl.

Oh, and there was some Energy Blade-type weapon in one of the older Armored Core games that looked like a shield, but had the blades jutting out from the front. That could be a nice design as well.

I'd be for it.

The Gundam fan in me is pleased by it. I'll only admit to being a berserk fan of only a few franchises, such as Gundam, Phantasy Star Online/Universe, Castlevania, and so on. Anyhow, I tend to hate Dynasty Warriors games with extreme prejudice, including the first two DWG games. This one I still have some gripes with (such as being yet another game where Quin Mantha is not to scale), but overall, I think it's worth playing if you like Gundam or if you like Dynasty Warriors.

There were some shields in PSO that did something similar to F91's shields, I think. Off the top of my head, Safety Heart (http://www.pso-world.com/images/items/BB-SAFETY_HEART-ACTION-1.jpg) comes to mind. In basic form, it's relatively similar. Twin shields would end up being energy shields when in standby and in defensive mode, and the energy sharpens into blades when used as weapons, only to revert back to their original form after a moment. It could even be a substitute for the "twin sabers" class of weaponry if done properly, what with the ability to dual-hand guard and attack like twin sabers have.

It's a spectacularly silly idea, and I by no means expect this to ever be implemented in any game ever, but then again, they have arm-mounted blades that are attached by wires now, so you never really know what to expect.

I dont see how a photon whip could be plasuable in absolutely any kind of situation, ever in life ever in existance. I can see you killing yourself eons before you killed your enemy.

2 Shields, you're on complete defense while fighting some guy who will ridiculously outrange you. He'll probably never hit you, but you'll definitely never hit him. A sword goes in the other hand for a reason.

I think with 2 shields you could overwhelm the enemy, but I could only see that working well in a duel and not any sort of battlefield.

As for Photon Whips, I also thought they were ridiculous, but that didn't keep them from being in PSU. Though to be fair they, and their Photon Arts were based on the Indian Urumi.

I don't know why you're trying to bring any realism into this at all. The series has had Slicers since before PSO and that shit is just unbelievably ridiculous.

By your logic the game would just be dominated by RAs because in real life you'd have to be an idiot to use a sword instead of a gun, and magic isn't real.

Waiting for the day when guns become borderline useless and swords become the new thing again. Like haveing to go in for armor weak points unless you were a sniper I guess. Then we have air strikes and tanks and C4 and claymores and sooner or later spaceships unless we don't find a new way to power our stuff and go into dark ages 2.0....

It's gonna be really hard to create a melee weapon that can dish out more damage than a gun, and more efficiently. (search youtube for videos of what a .50 Calibur round can do to things....let alone people. *shudder*)

For instance, Star Wars. The only reason im sure Jedi use lightsabers instead of guns is because nothing in the path of the blade is still there after the attack. (that and rule of cool) But of course, the smarter thing to do with Lightsaber technology would be to create a long-range version of it.

Whatever, with a sword you have your own fate in your own hands, but the death is going to be far, far more painful. I'd honestly rather get shot than get sliced up and bleed out.

Does anyone know if these videos have been subbed by anyone? I remember watching subbed versions of the original videos with Sakai giving a presentation. (Media presentation?)

This thread needs to be stickied or the videos added to the PSO2 info thread so they don't get burred under all the other threads.

I didn't add them because I figured that they were going to be taken down pretty quickly.

I'll put them in anyway, I guess.

Ahh ok.

Other than that the 3rd person shooter view and controls for Rangers in the videos are like a dream come true.

I'd be flabbergasted if Sega removed videos from a public vidcast just because we aren't japanese.

Dude you were the one saying I was slow on posting the videos but I wasn't. You opened your mouth w/o knowing the deal because the videos I posted weren't posted by anybody else yet (at least not w/ just gameplay footage only.

It's the lava hardening on its body.

Reminds me of Agnaktor from Monster Hunter Tri.

yeah that dragon was 100% monster hunter.

Not that it's a bad thing. But i'd be very, very angry if every enemy in the game fights like a MH enemy and runs from you after a while.

I just want at least one shadow of the colossus/zelda type of boss, and maybe a humanoid boss...only giant monsters gets annoying after a while. Of course the few in PSU and PSP2 were annoying...

thats because they all sucked. There's a difference between a boss and a large enemy.

Well yeah, but I meant in general, I liked fighting humanoid things too.

Malfunctioning robots, douchebag villains with ninja powers, powerful mages-whatever.

Of course almost all of the bosses sucked in PSU..................

in general...

But to be fair, in my experience PSO's bosses are only fun till you beat them the first time if you ask me, first you're all "D8" cause you know you're gonna die. Then you're all "D<" cause you want revenge. Then you're all ">D" because you killed em then it's like "whatever hurry up and die" the other times.

Still better than PSU's "I came, I saw, I spammed my favorite PA, I didn't care that I won because no rares dropped" though.

Yeah. Nobody mentioned it, so I thought I'd just throw it out there. Also in the Video with the HUmar wearing black(the video is not here) doing the resta animation, a yellow light is coming from him and something is landing on the floor nearby. He never goes to the item though.

It is MH-ish. I think its a combo of Agnaktor(like Colaya said) and the dimension shifting dragon in PSP2

I think the worst(meaning best) were the Seed Infected Cast(carrying any weapon) & the Magashis. The bosses I liked the most were the Twins, both the psychic ones & the feral horn twins.

They reused animations for the alpha. I think what you're talking about is the video where a HUmar lays a telepipe.

Yeah that's true. It was a telepipe, but I have no idea what he was trying to do before he got killed.

Technically, we could see something Dec. 24th.
(25 or 26 depending how xmasey anyone gets) They're going to show it at some new Akihabara show or something, which means playable booths for the attendees. The thing they said that 'would be done' is the whole/most of the intro CG movie.

I'm imagining that (like they did before when the show was on home turf/not the more recent Korea show) they will likely post up the completed CG intro, and have some footage of the show people playing the alpha2 fixed up game/demo version.

There's no info that says it will be the second alpha client people will be trying out. Unless you mean video of people at Sega trying it out.

True, but it's always possible that a new video gets leaked, or someone finds something that hasn't been posted yet. Just thought I'd check. I want to keep the thread as up to date as possible, I've just been very busy lately.

Good news and bad news everyone! According to the most recent PSO2 newsletter, the playable demo on the 24th will be the second alpha client! Only the character creator will be playable though. So cast boobs.

It would be sweet if they had a benchmark program so you can test your PC that let you create a character, then use that character in sequence with the benchmark test.

And even sweeter if you could link that to your Sega account, and load it into the character creator when you actually start the game.

Dreams are nice.
