This is Phantasy Star related, just forewarning ahead of time to make my life easier.
I'll try to make this as understandable as I can. I started playing Phantasy Star Portable 2 about 3-4 weeks ago by now, and I got into it again because of an online friend. To give a little history about myself, I started playing Phantasy Star Online version 2 on the DreamCast when I was 15 - 16 years old. I am 22 now, and I stopped playing once my HUnewearl got to 12x (somewhere in the 120's), etc. Anyways, fast-forward 6 years or so, I'm playing PSP2 now.
I realize that my knowledge retained from having previously playing PSO doesn't help MUCH in PSP2, but that doesn't mean I don't know a single thing about the game. My one friend always disses at everything I do.
"LOLhunter"
I get it. You hate hunters. You don't have to keep typing that every time I'm doing an online mission or referring to something, even potentially asking for advice. No, I don't care that you have a Vanguard, which could be way better than my Hunter. It probably is for all I care. People play their characters and classes differently, get over it.
You play more defensively than I do, I get that. I don't need to see a rude "LOLhunter" comment every time I'm telling you I'm doing a mission and I could be having trouble with said mission.
Also, when me and him are arguing, or even when another of his friends are debating, he always tries to make it as if he's always in the "right". No, you're not always right, get it through your head, and stop being so stubborn. It's immature and annoying.

Personally I try to avoid making friends that act like they're in an online forum in normal/online conversation. (Speaking of which so close to 2k posts D: )
I don't know what advice to give you because it sounds like talking to him about it wouldn't get far if he's stubborn he'll just continue acting like you're the problem and then there will just be this continuous tension or awkward and bitter atmosphere about it.
Try telling him something along the lines of... CARE LESS.
I actually almost never get into debates with my friends.

In all honesty, I don't mind arguing or debating as long as it produces intelligent conversations between individuals. It just gets annoying when a person bashes on another person's class or play-style. I don't really rage about it for him to see, but I've been bottling this up so much that I figured I'd rant about it here.
If he wants to "LOLhunter" me, I'll just "LOLvanguard. Cool story, bro" next time.

Is it wrong that I expected politics to be the topic of this thread?
On topic, unless you rolled force, you're fine. Forces are painfully UP in PSP2. Everyone else is fine. VA's EX traps are just instant-kill-wave buttons (Sometimes using multiple). Beyond those, they're inferior to HUs in melee, and to RAs in ranged...

It sounds to me like this person is an internet douche bag and you need to let him know so. If he insists on being so, perhaps you need to drop this person as a friend. Whether he's from real life or otherwise. If he is a douche on the internet and yet you see him face to face often, its quite likely he doesn't think anything of you in real life either, he just doesn't have the balls to say it to you.

He might be joking. Ever thought of that?

Actually, yes. But you do realize that the more you use a joke, the less effect it has, right? In this case, the less funny it became, and the more annoying it is to me.
I guess if you consider the following as a joke if he repeats it on a weekly basis about how much he hates hunters:
-Hunters online are terrible.
-All Hunters ever do is spam Blade Destruction
-They don't know how to play defensively
-LOLhunter
Personally, I don't mind jokes or some dicking around every once in a while. I might drop a couple "Silly Vanguards" every once in a while, but I wouldn't do it so consistently that my other friends would get to the point of irritation. If you consider all of the above as a joke, then your definition of 'joke' is extremely off.

I'm usually a Vanguard and frankly, I think your friends an idiot. :<
I mean, yes, we have those fancy EX traps, and a yes, we play defensively but...
VANGUARDS ARE THE MOST AVERAGE CLASS TO PLAY.
We have lower ATK than HU, Lower ACC than RA, lower TECH than FO.
What we really have going for us is our high EVA.
Yeah, sure he can say that all HU ever do is spam blade destruction.
Well then, all VAs ever do is spam EX traps.
And I LOVE spamming EX traps...
and using traps in general...
Really, I know several players that call me the bomber lady, or Ms. Bombshell... :<

Sounds like a few people I'm familiar with.
If this is on a forum of some sort, why don't you just report him for trolling? It'll more than likely get him a warning, and he'll probably stop doing it.

It isn't on a forum. Even if it was on a forum, I wouldn't feel the need to do that. I get annoyed, but I don't get irritated enough to report people, truth be told.

Yeah, that's the thing. None of the races or classes are perfect in every single way. I realize that in terms of defense and EVA, Vanguards have my Hunter beat easily. I would like to think that my damage output should be a bit higher based of stats from what I've seen though. I don't even gloat about my damage or anything, so I don't see why my one friend is being an incompetent ego-maniac.
I actually have a Vanguard as an alt, myself, and I love using her on low-leveled missions. <3
PS Though off-topic, if any of you guys happens to play PS:P2, I'd love to play with you guys or something. Preferably with some way to communicate like Skype chat or even IRC. =P

Reminds me of my Halo 2/Farcry/battlefront II days where we would call each other out such as the" noob combo" my friend would use. We either came up with a comeback or dealt with it. He would always say "If it works" and our argument was done.
You can stoop to your friend's level and call the dood out for the traps or tell the person to get over it or something along the line. If the person takes joy in your agony, the best way to counter(IMO) is to take away their joy.

No. I was expecting a rant about people not accepting some flavor of pseudoscience bullshit or religion without evidence myself.
OP, next time your friend opens his mouth, just fucking smack him in it for being a twat.

Your friend seems like quite the charming butterfly.
Vanguards "playing defensively" in PSP2 typically equates to EVP stacking and being "invincible", that isn't defensive, that's just laziness/convenience.
Hunters are more "defensive" than Vanguards in that they actually have to...I don't know, use the block button against more things than just Techs and undodgeable attacks.

I know someone just like your friend. I absolutely hate it when someone talks crap about another's playstyle. I mean you may not agree with how they choose to play and you can make that known ONCE if you feel it needs to be but you don't have to say it everytime you play the person you know?
I used to play fighters regularly with this person and I eventually quit because of how much I got bashed for how I choose to play, characters I choose to play with, etc. Whenever I won it was "cheap" or "lucky" but whenever they won it was "because I just didn't know what to do"

When I'm a RA. some scrubs call me cheap and overpowered.
... seriously?
RA's DEF is the second lowest that I can think of, and their ATK is low as well.
I'm pretty sure it's because I'm capping those beaasts off from afar with a rifle, and NOT get hurt, but that's pretty much the point of being a Ranger, well in my opinion anyway.
Apparently people think that rushing in and just hitting them while dodging is the best way to play, since I see a LOT of HU with Twin Sabers that spam Blade Destruction.
The point of having DIFFERENT class types is to change up your play style.
There is no such thing as one class being better than the other.
Playing a FO is really difficult since they got nerfed, so in my opinion, if you're a FO and play it well enough to keep up with everyone else, I consider you advanced.
But that's just me. I'm just happy playing a VA with my really fancy EX traps. 83
Edit: Then again, my RA play style is different with Loli, since she actually has only 3 main weapons which is an axe, laser cannons, and grenade launchers. I'm just trying to change it up with her.

Tell your friend to stop being an ass.
Vice versa,
Tell that ass he's not your friend.
Not even a video game friend.
