Well it's been a while since i had to deal with anything like that, but I'd say, know when to put the controller down for starters. Most parents, actually most people like to blame games when in actuallity it's not the games fault. Mabey you can suck it up and do some booty kissin and try to work something out with them so that you can still play even if it's not alot, and so that they get something out of the deal. Just remember dont get upset when you talk to them or they'll not take you seriously. Maby offer to do something around the house or help them out in some way. Or you could do what I just said above but instead of asking to play, just start offering help and work hard with them then they may not mind you playing.
Parents are a tricky thing! I was the king of screw ups when I was a kid so I know all the tricks of the trade. The only real solution might be to take care of business before you pick up the controller. If you work now, you'll have more time to play later.
