Could anyone please tell me how I can join the lottery for a chance to play the game?

Make a japanese SEGA ID account and sign up for the PSO2 newsletter.

Even though nothing has been announced, that's how you were able to get into the alpha test as well as getting a head start on having an account.

I think they may as well have said it'd be the same way as signing up for the Alpha.

Where was that thread where everyone was trying to sign up for it again? And I think a bunch of people posted some guides or something?

I'm N-aaaahahahaaa-ot missing this beta...

I've never heard of a beta that you had to pay for.

They haven't even said if there will be a monthly fee for the real game yet.

Coatl
Mar 16, 2012, 08:02 PM
PSO online had a monthly fee.
And look how outlandishly fantastic PSO 2 looks.
No way there won't be.

Hell, PSU has a monthly fee last I checked - and you have to have a subscription to XBox Live Gold, too.

You didn't the last time I played on 360 and that was just a few months after launch.

You don't need it either today.

I want some friends to try the beta, so thanks for the blog link!

um, your gonna need to use this Japan text keyboard and copy&paste when the SEGA ID log-in page requires a katakana (jp text) captcha..

I'm trying to find it currently but kind of having some trouble but can anyone post that one thread that had the guide to making a Japanese email as well? i'm still having trouble with that since my first language wasn't even English. I would appreciate it very much!

PSO on the Dreamcast didn't have a monthly fee until V2, and the Japanese version of PSU has a free option that was added on as an afterthought.

Mag-X,

利用登録には「SEGA ID」が必要です。
「PSU ID」(PSU)および「ゲームID」(PSOBB)はご使用になれません。

^according to the website a PSU ID is not sufficient. You have to make a separate SEGA ID to sign up for the newsletter.

It sounds like most of us want in, would someone be so kind as to list a step by step, comprehensive guide to getting a new Sega ID (I've had trouble), joining the infamous newsletter, and ultimately joining the beta please?

1) Put your email address in here: https://iway.isao.net/sega/mail_in.cgi?siteno=P1
2) follow the confirmation link in your inbox
3) on the next page you put in your age, a username and password
4) Once your account is confirmed go to this URL: https://cha.isao.net/profile_oem/OEMLogin.php?product_name=pso
5) Log in there with your new account
6) On the next page find: ファンタシースターオンライン2 メールマガジン and click the box beneath it.
7) It will lead you to a TOS page, click the first box: 利用規約に同意して登録
8) fill in the name and address information as described on: http://psomitz.wordpress.com/2011/12/27/pso2-alpha-registration-guide/

And then you'll be signed up for the newsletter. You'll have to wait for the closed beta announcement before you can enter it.

But that is the problem.
I can't get past step 5) because the captcha I am required to fill with my login/password is set in japanese.

Anyone know how I could get around this?

You can copy and paste the letters from wikipedia if you don't have a JP language pack installed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katakana or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiragana

(though the recaptcha has always been in Katakana when I've logged in)

Thanks Kazzi, you're awesome.

I'm having a lot of trouble on the final registration page where it asks for name, address, etc. I'm using different translators, and digital Japanese keyboards, but it refuses to let me register. --It keeps popping up with a window with Japanese writing as if something is incorrect with what I've typed in.

I've attached an image showing the message

Any help would be appreciated

I had a tiny bit of trouble with this as well. Since they are sending a newsletter to an actual location you need to have an actual address so make sure you grab a business address or something. You can use the zip code and phone number from the business if you want as well. The names are a little more tricky. I just googled basic Japanese names and got a first name and surname. Then with the names you got you have to translate them to katakana with a translator. The full katakana names are the 2nd set of boxes. To make the whole process easier I had google translator open and was copying and pasting stuff into the translator if I wasn't sure what something said.

Here's the katakana character generator posted earlier on this thread : http://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/katakana.htm

No, I used gmail and I know people who used hotmail with no issues either. You do need to have your browser with JP support though (I use chrome and have JP installed) or it'll IP block you.

Oh and you can skip logging in by clicking the box after you register, I didn't notice that at first only when I was making my friend an account ^^; (since I signed up through the alpha link) it forwards you straight to the newsletter page without the katakana recaptcha.

I got that error at one point as well, it was fixed by switching browsers and signing up again. Check your email to make sure it didn't go through anyway. Otherwise I don't know how to help if that doesn't work. Ask a friend to register the account for you? I just made another account with no issues, so the server is up.

Made a small guide to registering a Sega ID and subscribing to the PSO2 Newsletter in the stickied PSO2 Info thread: http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2725351&postcount=1678

Hopefully that'll help some of you. :)

There was supposed to be some sort of announcement near the end of the month on the details of the Beta test, right? If it's not "JP-only" again, I wonder if there'd be an easier way to sign up according to region, so we don't have to go through all these moonrunes and regional IP stuff...

I signed up to the newsletter with mozilla about two hours ago, only problem I had was it wouldn't accept my name in two separate categories so I combined the first and last name and printed it in four spaces (worked like a charm).

I actually have a legit address in JPN but it wouldn't accept it until I wrote it out in katakana.

Cayenne
Mar 18, 2012, 09:10 PM
You gotta try different addresses and katakana methods.

Some have an easy time making one when Alpha 2 sign-ups were here and other's (like me) had to try so many things to get it to submit and have it accept.

Keep trying.
