Mar 23, 2012, 01:09 AM
The date and time for the second "media briefing" have been announced on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/sega_pso2/status/183063810704281601).

Official services planned for summer 2012

If you press the yellow button with a clock on it in the grey box next to the doors, you can watch the stream later. You need to press the yellow button once, then press the yellow button in the confirmation box that pops up afterward.

I laughed when I saw the comments about PSO2 on mobile devices. XD

Kion
Mar 25, 2012, 11:40 PM
PC + Vita + SmartPhone

*linked servers, you can access your character from any one of them.

So you can play at home, play on the train with your vita or smartphone on the go. Or as Sakai says, "anyone can play anywhere at anytime with anyone".

Mike

Smart phone version you say?

Sega certainly has guts to try it out on smart phones...though with the size of that general smart phone, I'd think it'd go on iPads only.

But it would be crazy to play this game on my iPhone 3GS, still. XD

Kion
Mar 25, 2012, 11:43 PM
I wonder how they're going to pull off the smartphone interface. As of android 4.0 usb controllers will be supported. Asus slider might be work.

But he says, "social game" for the smart phone. So it's probably going to be pretty slimmed down.

iOS and Android only? Double lame.

Mike
Mar 25, 2012, 11:47 PM
So the smarth phone version isn't the same as the PC version. It will share the data with the PC/Vita versions but be solo only (I think, sound off so I can't tell).

Kion
Mar 25, 2012, 11:47 PM
As for the vita:
- It's for the players who dont have an up to date pc
- or for pc players who want to play on the go
- Updates can be downloaded to the vita
- The graphics will be toned down a little but according to Sakai, the game runs fine

For the smartphone
- you can check your mail
- or check the status of your shop
it's not the main game, but the social aspect of your game.

Spellbinder
Mar 25, 2012, 11:48 PM
It's loud where I'm watching so I can't hear everything, but it aside from a simplified character creator and controls, the smart phone version is separate game (although it can use PC game data?) for more social functionality. Anybody who can hear more clearly please correct me if I'm wrong.

Kion
Mar 25, 2012, 11:48 PM
Also it looks like they're putting most of their effort into the pc version.

I think it was saying there is a Pre-Testing Character Creation that starts on the 5th. It said something about characters, 4/5, and it showed character creation.

I could be wrong though, I have limited knowledge of Japanese.

So what got confirmed?
I saw Claws or maybe Fists, was hard to tell which it was. Also, was that a Longsword type weapon they showed for a few seconds, or just a fancy looking Sword?
I think I saw an Assault Rifle type weapon too. Near the end of the later video I saw a Hunter with a gun that burst fired.
Saw a new Technic too, I think, but nothing major for Forces.

PSP2i seems to be doing fine with their cash shop. The items they offer are really cool and unique as well as not costing a fortune. On top of that, they are constantly adding new items, some of which are absolutely free!

People had to pay to get the game in the first place though. >_>

Freemium left a bad taste in my mouth that whole broadcast. Yuck.

Vita was a surprise. Smartphone support an even bigger one. F2P+Cash Shop is a sad realization that this game also is a victim of current gaming economy. All of these are surprises...but now alot of things are starting to make sense, specifically the visuals. Sort of.

RPG aspects...look like PSU's RPG aspects (aka mediocre.) But only in the cutscenes -- i saw some interesting looking interaction with some storymode object. Hopefully the enemy AI will be representative of the NPC AI. But overall im not very worried. If the Interrupt events are any indication, i think they'll have the quests done pretty well in this one.

Just the Beta gameplay part. It's one of the only times i didn't get kicked.

F2P usually means crap for gameplay, but it is 100% the best option for localization.

....well, if the servers are still shared. In which case they just need to translate and provide the option for the free client. Either way, it's a foot past the hardest door to get in for the western audience -- convincing people to spend money to play the game.

You guys are all acting like PSO2 is already confirmed to be Pay2Win. This is not necessarily true. It all depends on how they do it. They could simply make the items you purchase in the cash shop quick ways to get rare items, vanity items, and My Room items. There's nothing in the world of F2P Cash Shops that say the Cash Shops have to be P2W. Just because other companies have done it wrong does not mean it's impossible to do it right.

Akiyama
Mar 26, 2012, 12:27 AM
I don't see how people are feeling down on the free to play model with cash shop. If you love what you're playing and want to give them your money, you can. If you feel you can't afford that, you don't have to. If you feel PSO2 isn't for you, you can stop playing without thinking "but all the monies I sunk into it..."

It's a win-win. Plus, unlike bigger MMO companies (sup FFXIV/Squeenix) who rushed their product out, PSO2's been delayed so they can fix things. People who've done alpha tests.. they've liked it for the most part, right?

I think a F2P PSO2 will be just fine with a cash shop. Especially for cash shopped individuals such as myself.. it'll definitely be a good thing.

I seriously doubt there will be a stamina model. Most games that even have a stamina model in Korea that get moved here (Dragon nest for instance) have their stamina models changed as it is.

I truthfully think we'll get a good MMO that's worth paying for, that'll actually be free and run by a stable company (of sorts).. unlike people (like me) who play DN and have to deal with Nexon's ineptitude.

Polantaris
Mar 26, 2012, 12:32 AM
If there was going to be a Stamina system, it would have already been implemented. It's a core feature, and one they would have wanted input on a long time ago.

How does Free 2 Play equate to Stamina system anyway? There's no correlation. All games that had Stamina systems did not have a way to "buy back" your Stamina. It reset at 00:00 server time, and that's it. If you ran out, too bad. There was nothing you could do.

Plus, Korea has long since proved that Stamina systems simply do not work. Everyone knows this at this point.

There is no indication that it'll be a huge problem, but the possibilities for cash shop abuse are endless. Especially in Phantasy Star.

Mag feeding/cells, Grinding rates, Character customization, blah blah blah. I have no issue with a mission here and there, but if they design the game to force you to pay everytime you want a chance to do something (upgrade/whatever) then the game becomes Pay-To-Win.

F2P Cash Shop games can easily ruin things like Phantasy Star because they can take things that were previously cosmetic or extra (like PSO's multiple Mag Evolutions and cells, PSU's trade outfits, hairstyles and visual unit drops) and make you pay for them instead. As long as they keep the pool of in-game acquirable things high, it wont be an issue. I have faith that they won't try and choke us like the Koreans though. And i highly doubt we'll get a stamina bar.

If there was going to be a Stamina system, it would have already been implemented. It's a core feature, and one they would have wanted input on a long time ago.
I think the data miners would have found a menu graphic or something for it but it wouldn't have to be in from the start. You'd just have to visualize the counter and it's max/min positions.

How does Free 2 Play equate to Stamina system anyway? There's no correlation. All games that had Stamina systems did not have a way to "buy back" your Stamina. It reset at 00:00 server time, and that's it. If you ran out, too bad. There was nothing you could do.
Sure there was. I don't usually play f2p mos but the last one I did used a stamina system system with the ability to purchase your way back in to missions. I think the name of the game in the US is Vindictus. You payed for a ship for with biweekly alloted coins. If you used up all your coins, you could purchase more from the cash shop.

Plus, Korea has long since proved that Stamina systems simply do not work. Everyone knows this at this point.
They seem to be profitable enough to keep showing up.

Right. If they force you to pay for a "Premium Account" of sorts, much like another game I play (World of Tanks) where Premium gives you 50% Money/Exp more.. then yeah, Pay 2 Win is fail fail fail, but I dunno if they'd go that route. PSO just seems like a game that'd make you want to make your character super pretty or something.

Yeah. As long as they keep stuff accessible much like it was in PSO.. and then just make some extra costumes here and there, hair, maybe even weapon skins or whatever.. then I'm fine with that. As long as they don't touch things that actually affect the progress of your character and the rate at which you gain things.

99.9% chance I say that we don't get a stamina bar.

Considering how much they care about the input from players, it would have been. They would have included it to make sure that people were okay with it. They're changing things left and right to adapt to what the players want, Stamina is a serious system that could make or break the game for A LOT of players. It would have been in the Alpha.

Funny. I played Vindictus two months ago and it lacked any such system.

Every game that had Stamna systems have also had them removed in the last year or so, if not earlier. Dragon Nest, Vindictus, Dungeon Fighter, Atlantica Online, and many more games. Every game that had Stamina when that was the "in" thing for F2P kMMOs also removed them after they realized it only annoyed players. Stamina is a dead concept.

You should also take into account that every game with a Stamina system is also a KOREAN MMO. This isn't a Korean MMO.

I would never have an issue with F2P+Cash Shop if the games that used them wern't designed around them. Like Stamina Bars, Upgrade Shops, exp rates and other things that choke you into continously paying for the same item to enjoy the game.

As long as everything in PSO2's cash shop stays cosmetic, i wont have an issue. Maybe pay for a new pack of quests (ONCE) every now and then, and new areas when they make them. I think that's fair, seeing as the game is free. But anything else is a no-no.

A small mistake that does not shake my argument what so ever. Vindictus used to have a Stamina system. It does not anymore. What does that say? It was an utter failure. This is backed up by the other comments about how Vindictus became popular after they removed it. No one wanted to deal with it. Who can blame them?

Stamina is a concept introduced by Korea to stop massive MMO playing that was killing lives. When it failed, they switched to the midnight ban and similar laws. The systems should have never reached the US/Japan in the first place. At this point, after they have been proven to do more harm than good, SEGA would have to be absolutely moronic to even contemplate introducing the system to PSO2. Add that to my other points, and I can guarantee you there will not be a Stamina system.

Then perhaps you could explain why platinum tokens still show up here (http://heroes.nexon.co.jp/pointitem/itemshop.aspx)?

Knowing personally how Nexon works, that screenshot is probably Ancient. Show me an actual in-game screenshot, and I'll be less against you on this matter. Besides, being in the Cash Shop does NOT mean that it is actually purchased. There's tons of items in the Japanese MapleStory Cash Shop that's simply never purchased, because it's useless or too expensive. I know this for a fact. Just because it's still present does not mean people buy it. They leave it in the Cash Shop because, well why not? There's a very slim chance someone might buy Nexon Points for them. It costs them nothing to keep them in there.

They've used player opinion to change basic gameplay things but never mentioned anything about money until now. Also given that the first two alphas were very limited, not only in time but in player-base, having a stamina system would defeat the purpose of the tests.

Let's say that you're right. Then just change Alpha to Beta. If it's not in Beta, it's most certainly not going to be in the final product.

Not in Japan.
Maybe not EVERY game in Japan, but still a vast majority of them.

FF14 originally had a stamina system of a sorts, yeah? I don't think SE is Korean. They did ditch it though but that doesn't mean that Sega won't try something similar. One of the main complaints about FF14 was that the development team was indeed Korean based. Was one of the many excuses I've heard as to why it started off so crappy.

FFXIV NEVER had a stamina system in the way you're thinking. I think for using abilities and what not it existed, much like if you played a FPS and you'd run out of stamina after sprinting for so long, but there were never limitations on play with FFXIV.

Well, there was. The limitation of how much garbage you could take from that terribad (and still terribad) game.. but never any *real* restrictions.

As for Vindictus, from what I remember, there are no restrictions to how long you can play. If it's like Dragon Nest, your exp gain goes down after you use all of your bar.. (or coins I guess in this case), but it never STOPS you from playing.

Korea is just completely unrestricted in their methods of conning players with cash shop mechanics because apparently in Korea, everyone actually loves grinding and the stratification you get from spending money in a cash shop.

Sega might get bold and try something stupid. Then their players will just complain until it's removed.

If Monster Hunter gets tons of players without any kind of stamina bar, there's no reason Sega should piss off their players with one.

Spiral Knights' Energy System has no reliance on actual purchase from the every day player. You can choose to buy CE, yes, however you never have to. Ever. Play smart, and you will never run out of CE. It's a lazy man's way out, sure, and sure, someone has to buy CE, but you never have to. You never have to spend a cent on the game if you do not want to.

The entire game is built around Crystal Energy being completely trade-able.

No, because SEGA has no impact on Spiral Knights at all. The entire CE system was introduced long before SEGA was involved with the game at all. SEGA only Publishes Spiral Knights. It has no involvement in the development. The entire Crystal Energy system was developed, tested, and implemented LONG before SEGA even had it's mitts NEAR Spiral Knights. I was in the game's "Preview Event" for a year and a half before SEGA was involved, and the entire time had CE in the game's core mechanics.

I'm gonna fist so many things that you'll find my gameplay videos on adult websites...

So pretty much this game is gonna be perfect for me so far. :0

Still iffy on the cashshop... I don't wanna buy that ONE outfit I like, then 8 out of 10 other people are wearing the same outfit, because it's the best looking one, but they also paid for it so they're gonna use it and FFAUDFHADFADFADF STOP DRESSING YOUR CHARACTERS LIKE MINE GET YOUR OWN SWAG!

Hopefully there's a good balance on ingame outfits/items/hairstyles and arcs cash ones, even though I'll be buying both regardless...Maybe they will make a ingame pso daily where they well you what everyone else is wearing...so you can be original.

I dunno about this f2p stuff
Maybe this will curb the Chinese gold farms. Also the consumer should have much more say in the actual content of future releases. I was planning on paying $15/month. I want my henshin, and this might get me there...Maybe we can get wind, and earth techs too.

Been watching the whole conference again, noticed some Interesting PAs. (Or I guess possible Skills from the Skill tree)

Swords too get a PA with the ability to Skewer. @ 6:37
A Rifle PA that makes you slide across the floor to the enemy while shooting. @ 6:40 (Totally Reminds me of Vanquish! Haha.)
You can go prone and crawl around with a rifle. The RAmarl does this and breaks off the enemy's breakable weakpoint in one shot. @ 29:22 (I'm guessing it may give a boost to attacks if previously unnoticed by the enemy.)

So, here's my concern: Got a Windows Phone with 1.5 years left on my contract.

Can someone translate "Please port the smartphone app to Windows Phone" to Japanese for me and show me where I can send it to the dev crew? :3
I don't have a Windows Phone, but I'm planning on jumping ship to one later this year (when WP8 comes out along with phones with better specs and high res screens). So, I concur: must submit requests to have the smartphone app on Windows Phone. Is there currently any way to submit such to the devs? If not, there'll likely be something when the closed beta starts.

As for the f2p model... ehhh. I would still prefer a subscription model ($10/mo) and all in-game content was acquired via in-game means like the old days. But, I can deal... long as they don't screw it up. There are plenty of examples of f2p gone wrong for them to learn from, so, hopefully they get it right.

I don't think that windows phones have a enough of a user base (yet) to warrant attention. And I think there's literally only one phone windows made by toshiba in the pipeline for release in Japan lined up right now, so their probably not thinking about it. If you want tho, here's the translation.
"ウィンドウズの携帯のためにもファンタジースターオンライン2のアプリを開発してください。"

I'd have to see what kind of programming language their using to program. It's pretty easy to use an engine like unity or program in javascript and use the same code to port to multiple devices. I haven't looked at what languages windows mobile supports. If they are using javascript though, they might have a website you can access and log into and provide the same functionality on a browser (which could also be say accessed from a windows phone).

I dont have those yellow buttons on my screen. (pso2.jp right?)

Ok. I managed to do it I think, but instead of the confirmation screen when I click the fourth link it brings me to a page where I fill in a ton of personal information -_- Not going to happen.

Would have edited the post above me, but it wouldn't let me for some reason :/

The Sega ID services have expanded since Kion wrote that guide. Look for characters similar to the screen shot. It also helps to use the quote button since it's hard to know what the heck you were talking about.

As one of the links, the top part was the link.

So, does this mean I'm already registered?

As you suspected, you are already registered. Time to sit back and enjoy the wait (´・ω・`) .
