The page for application in to the beta test and general overview of the beta test in general is up. You can access it here:

http://pso2.jp/entry/

The two main areas of testing for the beta test are:

1. Game system testing.
This is checking for bugs in the new game systems (Client Orders, the Matter Board, Emergency Quests, etc) and general balancing.

2. Arks Cash testing
The cash shop will be made available during the beta test and to make sure everything works correctly testers will be given a total of 10,000 AC (Arks Cash) to be freely used to make sure the system works correctly. Some of the items in the cash shop during the beta are only available for testing purposes though.

Characters created in the closed beta will not be carried over to the open beta test. But by raising a character in the closed beta to level 10 or above, your account will be gifted with 1 "Weapon Hologram" when the open beta starts. A weapon hologram is a decorative item that will allow you to create a hologram of a weapon to be displayed in your room.

For those who reached level 10 or above in α2: There is no need for you to register again. (yay!)

For those who registered for either of the alpha tests: You will automatically be considered for the closed beta so there is no need for you to register again.

Participants in the closed beta test will be announced in several waves of emails starting while applications are still being accept to prevent congestion of the client download. Alpha testers who raised a character to level 10 or above will be the first to recieve their emails with new participants being staggered as time goes on.

To apply, head to this site (https://iway.isao.net/sega/mail_in.cgi?siteno=P3). You can use the guide found in the info thread (http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2725351&postcount=1678) to register if you need to.

On the fifth of April, you will be able to download the character creater demo/benchmark program from this site as well. More on that as it becomes available.

That makes it sound like that Weapon Rack Deco will be a Cash shop item.

Of course just could be a small gift and the thing is purchasable easily by Meseta... Maybe.

When you get to the profile area, its not the top blue button (that's logout), it's the blue texted one not that far underneath it. Then you register on the service select page (which that blue text sends you too) you go to on the fourth option down (it'll have a little beta symbol in the name anyway), just click the button under that and your done (then logout).

Finally got a "server busy" page to load up, which kicked me back to the log in page. Thank god I still have the same captcha though.

You have to log into your SegaID account and officially sign up for the beta.

Wait to do it later, as it seems they've yanked the icon for the sign up to PSO2 because of heavy traffic.

If you already have a Sega ID you don't need to make another one. I don't know if you need to apply for the beta though but head to this site:

https://cha.isao.net/profile_oem/OEMLogin.php?product_name=pso

EDIT: Click the link that says サービス選択へ just above your name information.
If there's no button on the fourth entry of that page (ファンタシースターオンライン2 クローズドβテスト参加申し込み), then you're set.

Woo! I got all 4 character slots past the level req in A2. Any info on the beta test dates yet, Mike? My Japanese is pretty darn rusty, and all I saw was something referencing the date the email was sent. Was wondering if anything hit the official blog or otherwise.:)

I'm pumped for beta, though- regardless of when it is.:D

Cutting and pasting my guide from the other thread. Pretty straight forward. But maybe it'll help.

PSO2 Closed Beta Sign up Guide
If you already have a Sega ID for use on the JP server
[spoiler-box]
1) Go to https://cha.isao.net/profile_oem/OEMLogin.php?product_name=pso
Enter your username, password and the katakana captcha below.

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z88/kion_01/pso2_beta.png

If you do not currently have a sega id account.
[spoiler-box]
1) Go to pso2.jp and click on the yellow button that says "Beta Application"
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z88/kion_01/part1.png
You have until April 16 6pm JST.

2)From there you will be taken to a long page which a bunch writing which pretty much explains exactly what I am about to write about: how to sign up for the beta. Towards the button will be a large blue button:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z88/kion_01/part2.png

3) It will then present you with a user sign up. Enter your email and hit the blue button.
[spoiler-box]This is kind of wonky. Because it a) it gives me an error when i try to use google chrome, so use internet explorer or something. and b) it doesn't give the option to log it, it goes straight to a new user application. Which is why i provided the guide above for existing users[/spoiler-box]

4) An email will be sent to the address you provided. Go to your email and follow the link to continue. This screen is pretty self explanatory enter your birthday, desired Sega ID, password, re-enter password and the check box is whether or not you want (junk) mail from sega jp.

Note that passwords must include 1 numeric character.

5) After that you will be taken to a confirmation screen. If you're okay with what you entered, hit 登録する, if you need to fix something hit 修正する.

Do not close your browser!
If you do, go up to guide 1 :p
6) http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z88/kion_01/part4.png
You will then see this confirmation screen confirming you have successfully made a Sega ID. Under it is a button that says, サービス登録. Click it and it will take you to

7) this screen
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z88/kion_01/part5.png
where you can click register under the PSO2 beta application.

8) After clicking it... there will be standard accept the terms and agreements screen. And then http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z88/kion_01/pso2_beta.png
"Ka-boom baby!" Confirmation screen. "Thanks for applying to the beta"

If this is what you see instead of a button. That means you've already been registered. I think something messed up when I tried the first time. I tried it with a second account and after signing in it immediately took me to the "thanks for applying to the beta" page. So I updated my "guide". Assuming you already have an id, just go to the link Mike provides in the first post and signing in should be all it takes.

If you manage to log in and click the "view services" link in the upper right corner of your account info, there should be a list including DIVA.Net, etc. (Google Translate recommended)

The second to last service is the Close Beta. Mine isn't clickable and says, "Registered" underneath and all I've done is sign up for the newsletter. So I hope that helps

So... I just want some clarification on this. ^

This is the email I got from the PSO2 newsletter:

If you signed up for the mailing list or entered to participate in the alpha test at any time, you were automatically added to the list of possible beta participants.

Just to be sure, i made Sega ID and signed up for the PSO2 newsletter like a week ago, thios is enough to be added to the list right?

Well, it'll clear up eventually, yes? Heh...

I don't think I siged up for any news letter, nor did I have to type in kana.

All I did was make a SegaID, then I clicked the 4th option and confirmed for the beta.

I'm set right?

From PSUBlog:
"Those who played Alpha Test 2, and got their class level up to 10. Except those who violated the agreements laid out in Alpha Test 1 or Alpha Test 2."

Does this include non Japanese residents that played in A1/A2, or the people who posted videos/pics without tags/ect.

If you already signed up for the PSO2 newsletter (either to just make an account or take part in the alpha drawing) then yes you're already entered into the closed beta drawing. You would have to have put an address etc in to create a PSO2 account, if you did that step then it means you've already in the newsletter (since you have to fill that information in when you select the newsletter though I don't think you need to do that anymore? It asked me to confirm it when I logged in again).

You should also have received an email entitled earlier today:
"【SEGA ID】『PSO2』クローズドβテスト参加者募集開始のお知らせ"

If you just signed up for the newsletter now look for this:
"完了しました。"
It means you've completed the process. It should be at the end of it's own line. Usually the 2nd or third line down the email.

If you were in the Alpha 2 and you reached level 10 you're given a priority in the drawing, which pretty much guarantees you a place. So you don't need to do anything.

If you didn't do any of these then you haven't signed up for the beta yet.

Like someone else mentioned, you either put in the wrong ID or password.

If you're sure you have the ID/password right, you may want to try entering it all in lowercase. For anyone also running into this problem... I got this error a bunch earlier, then realized that when I first registered, it forced my ID to all lower case. So yeah, the ID is case sensitive, apparently.

As for all the people with the network congestion error... Just means that the network is busy, and you'll have to try again later.

In FireFox go to Options, Content, Under Languages hit choose, Select a language to add, then make sure that Japanese is on the bottom of the list so compatibility with normal sites works. Your done.

In IE (yuck). Tools, Internet Options, on General look under Appearance and hit languages, add Japanese and make sure its at the bottom.

In Chrome, Opera, (what ever) use Google.

Did you get everything working? Also be sure to use Google Translate for messages you don't understand (which I'm guessing is going to be all of them).. just go to google, type "Google Translate" and you can paste the Japanese in and it'll give you a loose, garbled translation.

As for the capcha you'll get when you want to log in again, use this:

Yes. It'll be in Japanese, of course. See if you can make sense of it with Google translate. If not, check here and see if there is a thread about the email (as soon as anyone gets one I can guarantee there will be a thread about it). If there's no thread, make one, post the contents of the email (preferably in spoiler tags), and some kindly soul will help you out.

One question though: I checked my SEGA ID account info, and pretty much every entry is blank (address, name, gender, etc.). I read somewhere that you have to verify that you're a Japanese resident to get into the closed beta. Is this true? Should I put in an address? I couldn't figure out how to add that so I decided I'd register here and ask. Any help would be much appreciated!

How much will the lack of Japanese fluency affect your ability to play?
Maybe we should all stick together in the Beta

Playing phantasy star in japanese should be easy if you play the past games.

Just get used to the menu.

And don't ask me what it was you just now picked up, because I don't know either-Oh it was just Mag chewing gum.

Only about 10%. Not knowing Japanese does not deter your ability to blow shit up.

The only things I can think about are story mode and weapon ability names(which can usually be roughly translated; FU RI ZU = freeze). Everything else is remembering buttons and icons.

Aside from speaking with the Japanese players. Everything else is pretty simple I found.

For those less obvious things such as what does this SKILL do, we have a helpful translator community. :)

Did you install JP language support and turn on the regional settings to Japan in your unicode? that things made my Firefox work.

Just use explorer...

Go to the options.

Language settings and add Japanese.

You should be just fine, and it's easier than doing it to your whole computer. But if you want the ability to type in Japanese, go ahead and change your PC's language setting. (Though installing things, all the text will turn into question marks.)

I mean the whole question mark thing.

There would be no point in turning your PC regional settings to Japanese anyway, to be able to type Japanese you can just use IME.

That's what always happens to me when I'd try to install programs in languages that your computer isn't set in. The installer would just show a bunch of questionmarks or jibberish then again I haven't tried this one windows 7.

Sorry I was out and forgot to write the whole thing, not only says you signed up for the CBT, but also that you will receive another e-mail when the drawing closes to confirm you got chosen. So like Mike Confirmed, having this e-mail in your inbox means that you just registered and you got to wait for the drawings after April 16th.

After clicking on the button, I'm brought here. No form to fill or anything.

Clicking on the left button brings me back to the page with 4 options and the second just refreshes the page. Does it mean they're full or something?

Good GOD, the character creation client didn't even come out yet...

And this is excluding the people that got to level 10 in the alpha right... e_e

At this rate... there will be like 300,000 entrants D8

I don't think it does.

The tweet itself only mentions that the number or applicatants for the beta will surpass those that applied for the second alpha today. That would be around 70,000 or so. Add in the 30,000 that didn't participate or manage to get to level 10 during the alpha and you've got 100,000 applicants. Sooo, around 40,000 users have got a spot and there are currently about 100,000 people in the running for the remaining 60,000.

it's safe to say anyone who played the Alpha more than 2 hours broke level 10.
