View Full Version : Sakai and "new classes"

This has me intrigued. Sakai claims to bring new classes, but in the PSO universe, how differential can the class system get? We have Melee, Ranged, and Magic. You think hybrid classes such as Vanguard in Phantasy Star Portable will make an appearance? Of course, they would have to be more narrowed down than just Vanguard, since he stated "classes".

People may assume things like "Rogue" or "Paladin", but can't these classes be pretty much improvised with what we have?

Well, Vanguard/Protranser as a item-based class is certainly an option.

Beyond that though, not a clue. Maybe a light weapons speciallist? (Restrict to single-handed weapons, focused on movement).

If acro classes comeback, I'll be sold.

well... more sold.

Maybe just similiar to hybrid classes from psu but in a more "support" point of view...

I mostly just liked focusing on the smaller quicker weapons.

I was never part of the heavy weapons guy, sword axe and double saber specialist crowd. And it was fun thinking of clever weapon combinations with the dual weilding system. (Even though it looked stupid having a gun and saber at the same time, I mostly used mags)

Slicers/Cards + R-Mags that had DoT attacks + small melee weapons + boosted attack speed = obvious ninja class, even though no one wanted to admit it.

But with the weapon set we'll have by full release, at least what we've seen from dataming I'm not sure how acro classes would work out weapon choice wise... cards, fists, daggers and wiredlance?- but wait, cards are a mage weapon... Hopefully slicers come back sooner.

Twin Sabers for the win!

I was a bit confused when Sakai said 'new classes.' Pretty curious about what he means, since HU, RA, and FO already have everything more or less covered.

My thought exactly. But has there been any footage or article revealing the use of guns and swords simultaneously? Of course, there is Gunslash, but like in PSU where you can wield a pistol on your off-hand.

You know it's likely he meant the Sub Classes, those actually haven't been talked about Officially yet.

I saw it mentioned. I'm assuming it is similar to Guild War's dual profession structure. However, you didn't hold any of the main benefits of the primary profession, yet you could use various skills, although they weren't as efficient.

Well you can pretty much make whatever "hybrid" class with the sub-classes. With skill trees we'll probably end up seeing a tree related to being an Acro-whatever.

You guys keep mentioning "Acro". What exactly is that? I feel like I should know.

I know I saw a post somewhere that had stats listed for the classes. I am pretty sure Dumans are going to make a comeback in PSO2. They are a high-damage class that can be a pretty adept hunter, force, or ranger, but their hp, defense, evasion, etc. are all terrible so they require some skill to use with dash and guard.

You didn't play PSU, did you?

Just hope the classes don't take a PSU direction where hybrid classes pretty much get the shaft. I like HU/RA/FO with the ability to select one as a subclass as well.

Could they just be talking about FOcasts in PSO2 vs PSO?

Acrofighter and Acrotecher

They both focused on one handed weapons (specifically designed for PSU's dual weilding system) and lesser ranked "twin" weapons (twin daggers, twin sabers, knuckles.) As well, they had boosted attack speed.

But acrotecher, obviously from the name focused more on teching weapons. (1 handed rods and tech mags) and had the best support techs.

Acrofighter focused more on bullets and ranged mags that easily caused side effects/damage over time attacks.

Acrotecher had the best support, and they were both fast... but acrofighter wasn't exactly one of the best classes. At least not after slicer go nerfed.

I did. Something inside me is telling me I should know what an Acro is.

Nope. Doesn't ring a bell. Thanks for the info.

-a character that is a master of ALL status effects?

-a character that uses 100% mags for battle like a pokemon trainer. Would be great for voice recognition for kinetic for the pc.

-a summoner who can bring back the dead and can control the beast from within

-A character thats a magical school boy and/or girl that can henshin. Can increase and decreased all its bonus stats on the fly.

-a character that can do wicked counters but horrible at everything else. the character can also knock out, and paralyze enemies. Its kinda like a pacifist character.

The Acro-types were added after most of the people who played PSU at or soon after launch went ahead and left to find better games to play. They were introduced in that expansion that was released, I believe (and then included in the Phantasy Star Portable games).

They were, like many of the types in PSU, implemented to try and add something new, but ended up just making the game have a bunch of unbalanced crap in it.

I would say that if they did add new classes to PSO2, that they would have to necessarily be ones that specialize in different styles of combat or hybrid styles of combat. Things like the Vanguard (what was the Japanese name, Braver?) are an example of this, as an all-rounder class would conceivably actually fit within the game's balance scheme.

I'm not sure what to say about Protranser though, because that was just a silly idea for this sort of game. Consumable-oriented classes in multiplayer games never balance out properly.

Protranser worked out fine in PSU though - they were basically two-handed specialists who got bonus trap damage (and EX traps - which were amazing when used on the right waves, but nothing you couldn't do with SUVs already)

I think classes will be more to play between main and sub, some of them will be oriented to multiple weapon holding, others into specializing in one weapon and have specifical passive skills for that weapon. If it's like FFXI, it will be about Main chooses your main stats and weapon choice and your sub the extra skills you can have.
