The Great Error Thread!

I thought it would be a good idea to compile all of the information we know about various errors into one place since, most likely, these will continue to cause problems for people.
I’ve done a search for all of the errors people have had trouble with so far and linked some of the the discussion threads about them. I'll be working on updating it, formatting it nicely, and making some general advice but for now here's the list and solutions for those that have been figured out!

READ THIS PLEASE:
If your error involves a typical Windows Error Screen, graphics problems, or game freezing, try some of the things below first! If your error involves a number of some kind (ex Error 649, then feel free to skip down to the listing below this section)

General Advice
Here are some things to try if you haven't already:

1) Update DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35)
Every new version of DirectX contains bug fixes so if you are having trouble, this should be your first step. You can get the latest version from Microsoft's Website directly here (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35)

2) Run a File Check
The 3rd option on the launcher 「ファイルチェック」 is used to check that all game files are present on your system. If anything is missing, it should download it automatically. It will also replace any files that may have been modified, intentionally or otherwise.

3) Update your drivers
Especially your video card driver! If you are running Windows 7, Windows Update can automatically download driver updates for you. They are usually listed in the "optional updates" section. Otherwise, check with the manufacturer of your video card. Many manufacturers have programs which can automatically identify and install the most recent driver for your card.

4) Make an exception in your Antivirus/firewall for PSO2
PSO2 is an online game after all so make sure it can connect properly to the Internet! Some programs have an designated "Game Mode" while others may be a bit more complicated. If you have Avast, look at the threads on Error 434 above. Otherwise, if you can't figure it out, ask in here and someone may be able to help out.

5) Reduce your graphics settings
Some graphics cards and PSO2 don't play nice together. Try going into the options menu 「環境設定」　(2nd option in the launcher) and lowering the slider.

-Switching to Simple Shaders
Several of my friends and I were receiving application errors until we did this. In the options, click

Then click the bottom left option to save and the bottom right option to return to the launcher.


-Manually editing the configuration file
For those who want more control over the settings, the configuration file can be editing manually (With the added bonus that it's completely in English!). Head to My Documents/SEGA/PHANTASYSTARONLINE2 and look for the user_beta.pso file (Or the user_benchmark.pso file if you want to adjust settings for the character creator). Right Click the file, choose "Open With" and choose "Notepad". You'll see a whole range of options from resolutions to textures and so on. You can change all sorts of things- For example, under the 'Draw' heading, changing ShaderQuality to false enables simple shaders or you can use the VirtualFullScreen option etc.

Error 434- Interactions with another Application: (Picture under spoiler):

7/8 NOTE: For patcher issues, some people have experienced success with using a proxy to patch the game and then running it normally so there may be some issue with connecting from certain ISPs. NOTE:
It seems that errors 601-630 are all related to general connection issues. If you are trying to login, make sure your ID and password are correct and try again. If it's something else, It is probably a temporary server issue- Try again later and see if the problem resolves.

Error 602- Wrong Password

Error 651 Trying to play on a different computer

Error 678- Need to Accept User Terms
[SOLUTION: Head to the ISAO user site (https://cha.isao.net/profile_oem/OEMLogin.php?product_name=pso2) and accept the user terms. Once you login to the ISAO site and get past the Japanese Captcha (Go HERE (http://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/katakana.htm) for a clickable katakana list if you cant input/dont know japanese), there should be a bit of scrollable text. Below that text should be TWO buttons. Click on the top button to say "I agree". Wait for it to process, then click the only button there (Logout).

Return back to PSO2 - you should be able to get in now. Thanks BahnKnakyu!

Error 230 Network Connection Error (No Response from DNS Server)

Error 242- Network Connection Error (Wrong Credentials?)
SOLUTION: 242 will happen after 602 if you put in the wrong password again. Try logging in on the SEGA site to make sure your info is right and reset your password if necessary Thanks BahnKnakyu!

Error 249- Generic Network Connection Error (?)
SOLUTION: The server sometimes spits out this error instead of 649 during maintenance but I also received it once when my connection dropped from being too far from my router. Make sure you are connected to the Internet, the servers are up, and try again in a bit.


Character Creation Locked Error Message:

Because of congestion on this ship, new character creation has currently been stopped. Please use a different ship.

Error 2107- Tekker Identification Failed

I'm having a problem where i was initially having the 434 error, but after adding exceptions it promptly patched itself. Now however when i click the PLAY GAME button, nothings booting. Not even gameguard. The launcher just closes itself and that's that.

Clicking on Game Start and instead of starting your game, your pc shuts down as if you pressed the shut down button (happened to me once after modifying screen resolution in nvidia control panel).

If it only happened to you once it sounds like the computer was waiting for you to restart after installing some updates and the countdown happened to just coincide with you clicking the Game Start button.

Don't mean to bump my own thread but does anyone know if there is a picture of the launcher options with translations? I think it could be helpful here. I could do it myself but it would not be very fancy and if there's one already floating around, I'd prefer to keep it consistent.

Every time I try to load the benchmark character creator I get the "pso2.exe has stopped working" error. I have Windows Vista, I think this is my Graphics Card Info: Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz

I've tried updating it but it didn't seem to work. I also tried reinstalling but that doesn't work either. I've tried changing to settings too, but to no avail.


EDIT: I can't get it to work on the Desktop, but It works just fine on my Laptop...

Try editing the user.benchmark file and switching the ShaderQuality to false (I just put instructions for doing so in my first post). I had the same problem and adjusting settings through the client didn't work but manually doing it did the trick.

Hello guys, new to the forum, but a PSO veteran.

I have looked through all the errors and none seem to really define mine.
I have tried editting and reseting hte user_benchmark.file (as well as the regular user.file) so that the shading graphics are minimal (meaning I set the scroller to 1, and the graphics to compressed and simple). But I still keep getting this error, right after the intro ends.

pso2.exe has encoutered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

(Btw nProtectGameguard seems to work fine)

I have also let PSO2 be an exception to firewall, and also updated my graphics driver (even though there was no new update to it)


There is probably something I am just forgetting and missing it -__-
Hopefully I can get pso2 at least runni ng before thursday.

Hey everyone, I merged some of the info from the other error thread into this one and did some more messing around. I'd like to get the exact japanese for each error so we can translate them directly and people can have an easier time searching so I'm holding off on updating a lot of the 600 errors for now. Keep em coming- If you have solutions, those are very appreciated as well! Feel free to PM me screen shots that I can either add directly or transcribe the japanese.

242 happens after 602 when you log in incorrectly and then try to log in again with the same incorrect credentials.

Go to the Sega ISAO site and try to log in there to verify your username and password is correct. Else hit the reset link near the bottom over there and get your password reset. The page after the start password reset page is asking you for personal info to verify before sending the password reset link.

Sadly yes, unless I happen to be updating to a wrong version of DirectX (currently have 9 and 9.0c installed). As for reinstalling, I did that on my laptop at least 3 times to no avail.

I think I have SOMEWHAT of an understanding on the issue. I am not computer-savy by any means, but I believe it is due to either the porcessing speed, the amount of RAM, or the quality of the video graphics card/drivers we have in out computers/laptops.

After doing much research (seriously, abotu 24 hours of it) I have come to the conclusion that THIS particular error is due to the fact that certain old types of WIndows XP and Vista laptops are just not able to run the game sadly. Also, in laptops, it seems yo uare unable to really UPDATE your graphics card or drivers (unless you want to do it manually, as in by-hand).

I was able to play the game a little bit on my school's PC (thank goodness) but it seems that the only REAL solution is that I will have to wait and buy a pc or get a custom-make gaming computer/laptop.

Well regarding that issue, I think you clikced on the wrong application. Make sure that in your program files (or wherever the pso2.exe file is) you open up phantasy star online 2 game launcher = the application/program you want to run. Hopefully it helped. A friend of mine had that issue too, cause he doesn't know any japanese :3

Sorry for the double post everyone, but I believe I have found the anwser to my issue, and sadly, its not a happy one.

For people who happen to have the same issue as me (which is the game crashes after the intro, meaning a problem with your computer specs)

Since, I run a laptop with nearly the identical specs as the one from the person located in the thread link above, the only real solution is for me (and/or you) to get a new computer able to play pso2 OR go to another computer within your vicinity that is able to play it (I am doing the latter until I buy a PC)

Hopefully this will clear up this issue.

I'm more than certain now that some sort of faulty coding with the open beta is preventing anyone with the correct version of XP from playing the game.

EDIT: Now I'm unsure since I've finally met people playing on an XP system. This is irritating as fuck.

I'd like to add that the 434 error can also be caused by screensaver. I had my screensaver set to 1 minute (to lockup when I wasn't around) and noticed the two times I had PSO2 open while the screensaver was up I was getting the "other application" error. Disabled screensaver and never saw it again.

My game doesnt even have a version number in te corner... and when i first install and load up i get a meesage and then a white box that says" Psolauncher.exe[japanese characters follow]"

Did you try running the patcher as an admin as suggested in your other thread?

I've tried to run it as admin yes (well at least the shortcut that starts it up on my desktop.) Unless you want me to go to the program folder and run that as admin. I'm gonna try that now

Edit: So I've tried to run as admin both ways, both through desktop shortcut and the program folder and neither fixes the dreaded error 105....

My friend is having a weird problem.

He cannot move his character, all the keyboard buttons ( exept ESC ) opens the chatbox in the right cornor.

I've been getting the issue with "The instruction at <insert memory address> referenced memory at 0x00000078. The memory could not be read."

I have changed my graphics settings to the lowest settings and set my shaders to simple shaders to no avail. I've noticed that some memory address is trying to reference 0x00000078, as the second memory address has always been 0x00000078 whenever I get the error, so I'm guessing it's at a specific point in the code which is trying to reference 0x00000078, or something like that. If anybody could help me with this issue, that'd be great.

If you don't understand what I'm talking about, just disregard it. :P

249 is a network error- it says that it could not connect with the server. In this case, it would be because the game is down for maintenance til 1am EST tomorrow

If anyone can assist, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been playing absolutely fine until this afternoon. Now when I try to boot the game I get error [105] which I only ever got if launching the game in non-administrator mode.

However, now I get the error regardless. Also, if I hit the third box to verify game files I get error [103] which appears to be a connection error. My firewall is disabled, and even then I have added the game to the list of exceptions.

Any ideas? I'm going to attempt to port forward the game or add it to my routers DMZ, but I am not sure what ports PSO2 is attempting to use.

Once the actual game launches, i can turn it off. Probably something to do with gameguard.

Once you login to the ISAO site and get past the Japanese Captcha (Go HERE (http://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/katakana.htm) for a clickable katakana list if you cant input/dont know japanese), there should be a bit of scrollable text. Below that text should be TWO buttons. Click on the top button to say "I agree". Wait for it to process, then click the only button there (Logout).

That Error 249 doesn't really say much- it just says that it cant connect to the server and to wait a bit and try again. It could have to do with your firewall or Antivirus settings.

If there is someone who has used a proxy successfully, can you please post/PM me how you did it so I can add it to the main post? It seems like it could really benefit a lot of people having trouble with patching/launcher issues.

I have changed my graphics settings to the lowest settings and set my shaders to simple shaders to no avail. I've noticed that some memory address is trying to reference 0x00000078, as the second memory address has always been 0x00000078 whenever I get the error, so I'm guessing it's at a specific point in the code which is trying to reference 0x00000078, or something like that. If anybody could help me with this issue, that'd be great.

This just means Sega has lovingly blocked you from making a new character on that ship because it is "too congested". So glad I decided to spend money on this game. :wacko:

Glad to hear some people's errors are getting solved. It seems like the reasons for "referenced memory..." error and "想定外のエラーが発生しました" are more varied than I thought. I highly recommend that everyone who gets those try to update their drivers and make sure that pso can connect to the internet problem (that firewalls antivirus etc are fine) I'm going to move the general advice to the top as I think it's more relevant than I thought!

As an aside, Has anyone else managed to successfully get PSO to work on WinXP?

I get the 249 error when I try to log in using public internet access (hot spots) with my laptop, my friend uses the same public connection and has no problem connecting to the servers. I already tried disabling the firewall (currently using AVG) and still nothing, I does work at home with the setup home connection.

I have downloaded the game and the character creator and also created a character. Hey everyone!
At first I'd like to thank everyone for helping here, this is very nice :3

So, I had the problem everyone had, and managed to fix it here, but now I'm having some other problem. When I click to open the game at the launcher, nothing happens for a while, than after a minute or so the game opens, than I get that SEGA video, then the nVidia one, and then the PSO2 intro, but when it is going to change to the login screen the game closes and I get a "memory cannot be read" error. Looking at the Tasks Manager, I noticed that in that 1 min delay between the click and the game actually opening, the pso2.exe exits, and probably that is why i get the memory error after the intro videos. Now my question is, how do I keep the process running? Thanks!

When my GPU Temp was at 51 degrees, I tabbed into the game and a straight shutdown to restart. My CPU is at a good temperature also, so i am completely clueless on how to fix this. Please help.

Try upgrading (or downgrading if you just upgraded) your video card drivers. The amount of reasons why it happens is really huge, for me, my PC would freeze if I set a fixed speed for the GPU fan so eh, computers. One of the most common reasons is a faulty PSU too.

For those having trouble with the file checker/patcher, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling with a alternative download? There are some links at bumped http://bumped.org/psublog/pso2-guide-list/ (granted, you will have to patch again after tonight's update but it's worth a shot)

Also, it seems that Application Errors (the memory could not be read) are starting to happen randomly to multiple people at once so that may be a server issue as well.

Also, if you need help with an error, kindly provide a screenshot so we can translate it/use it for future reference!

I think that's because of your IP, the patcher cannot download nor check. Try to use Hotspotshield, worked like a charm for me.

Nonstop error 103 when I try to start the game up from the launcher. I had 2 or 3 error 103s interrupting my download as well but all I had to do was click the download button again.

Anyway, it's not making any progress at all. Bitching out around the 10 minute mark every time. I'll try again when all the JP people are in bed but is the service really that unreliable?

This is the error ive been getting. And Ive only tested this for a day, but I may have found a work around to this problem. I heard and downloaded something called Game Booster 3, and when I used PSO2 with it, I have not yet encountered this Memory Error crashing. You probably might have just enough RAM on your PC/Laptop, but since other programs are using the RAM, their might now not be enough for PSO2. What this is is a free program that basically temporally closes all background programs to free up RAM so that games can use it, when you are finished gaming, it restores the background programs. It can also defrag your game files and update your sound/video drivers if need be. It only shines when you are using an old or outdated PC/Laptop to run PSO2 like me, new powerful comps wont notice a thing. Ive noticed a minor 5 FPS increase as well for PSO2 so its a little better but dont expect anything more than that. The real thing here is that it has helped me "fix" or get around this error and so far im able to grind for long periods. More testing will come through the next few days, but for a free program, so far my PSO2 has been stable.

To all who have problems with their *.exe files. If the loader manages to start up all you need to do is set your Windows profile as "administrator with full access rights" to all 4 files. You can do that by right clicking each files individually and go to the security tab. you need YOUR currently logged in profile to be in the upper window with the mark on "full access for writing and bla".

Once you done that, the patcher is able to overwirte the *.exe files again. You actually don't need to download the newest files when you are able to start the loader.

I had the same problem once myself >_< I got every SEGA-mail, but for some reason only the one with the key never got sent to me, no matter how many times I tried.

You're now at the e-mail register page!
At the top it shows your SEGA ID and below is some red text:

It says to either type in your name, birthdate or secret question (in this order from top to bottom).
You can mark one of the three, so pick one and insert the correct info.

Next, you'll see *連絡先メールアドレス at the very bottom and a type box below.
Put your e-mail address in there (the old one!) and then click the 次へ button!

Now look for the window that shows your old e-mail and click the button below!
You get to another page that shows your old e-mail again and then two type boxes you have to fill out.
Type in your new e-mail address and then type it in again as confirmation.
Then click the top button of the two little ones at the bottom of the page.

Now there should be an e-mail sent to you containing a link you have to click to finish the process!

I hope this helps ^^; Don't know about hotmail, but you should use the yahoo one just to be on the safe side!

Switching to Simple Shaders worked great for my overheating issues. Which made me loose my conection and restart my computer. It started being a problem when my CPU hit 90-95C then it went down to 85C being the threshold.

But ones I switched to simple shader it worked beatifully. But the graphics was much worse now. And I found that if you go to the left-most page on the options before launching the game there's a bar going from 1 to 5. If you put it to 5 you increase your graphics greatly.

Spent around 30 minutes trying to figure it out why my password wasn't working and figured out that the capital letter that I always type in was what was causing me to get 602.

My character isnt there either, but all his armor is there bunched up on the ground.
