View Full Version : PSO2 multi-monitor bench-marks

I didn't really see a thread with people talking about multi-monitor setups so I thought I would share. Some games work very well with multi-monitor setups and others don't. PSO2 works really well other then unable to move the hp bar and the map, not end of the world but praying for the final build to fix that. All other windows can be moved to anywhere on the 3 monitors.

My setup:
3x Samsung 305T monitors 7680 X 1600 desktop
Intel 970 6 core / no OC
12GB 1600
Nvidia 690 4GB / no OC

http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/Razzo22/IMG_0237.jpg

For the bench-marking I did a fresh install of the program and changed no settings other then setting the detail to 5.

First off I will post some single monitor scores to show the difference in performance. I was shocked to see that the scores where so close with the 2560 vs 1920 resolutions.

2560 X 1600 14682
1920 X 1200 14503

http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/Razzo22/pso22012-05-1202-30-13-81.jpg

Now on to the multi display scores, again odd scores.

7680 X 1600 3372
5040 X 1050 3406

http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/Razzo22/pso22012-05-1202-52-47-10.jpg
http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/Razzo22/pso22012-05-1202-37-47-50.jpg

As you can tell you need some major horse power to run PSO2 on 3 displays, but sitting back in my chair with my xbox controller in hand will be great !

I'd love to see some 3-monitor screenshots if you have any. Maybe even videos? ^^

Give me a couple of days and I will bump the thread with some screenshots and videos.

lolz, i have 2 monitors, but i never considered spreading the game over both, i tend to use the right one to surf the web or other things while playing PSO2 on the left+^_^+

I'd definitely go tri-monitor for PSO2, especially if it's not a fakie wide screen and actually gives us more FOV.

I get my 3 24 inch 1920x1200 screens in today, I'll try to post some pics.

BTW your 690 is being bottlenecked by your CPU, you should overclock by at least 3.8 to get you monies worth on that $1000 video card. I wouldn't settle for any thing less than 4.2 personally.

You have to be logged into NicoNico to watch any videos. Even though I have an account though, the video won't play. I tried earlier today at work, and I tried just now, and the loading circle thing just spins forever.

Yeah, I just registered with NicoNico not long ago. The loading takes a very long time (still loading the rest of the video as I type), but give it some more patience if your curious. lol

I honestly don't see the point of multi- screening unless you are running music in the background or other things.

I mean unless you are trying to show off lmao. I mean if it makes you feel cooler to be surrounded by monitors go right on.

If the game is set up for it, it gives you a wider field of vision. In shooters you can see more to your left and right, and in racing sims you can see out the sides of the car.

That's still a very nice set-up! Just too bad you couldn't push the graphics up anymore with a single card. :(

I'm currently holding my breath for NVidia's low/mid-end graphics solution. That new 670 kicks ass for a single GPU card, but it's still pretty expensive. @_@ I'm hoping that they'll release something that will compete against AMD's 7800 series (I was hoping the 670 would be that, but I guessed wrong).

Gonna be waiting and watching to see what else NVidia comes up with while AMD's card prices drop.

By the way, your voice is not so bad. XD

Keep in mind if your referring to me that was 3 GTX 480s I hope when I update to 680s things go smoother. But for now, things are pretty awesome. Main thing we have to wary about on Surround/Eyefinity setups is V-RAM, I'm waiting for the 4GB versions of the 680 before I jump over to them.

I am so jealous Neo, that must be such an amazing thing to behold. It is glorious. How I wish I could do that myself. I have a 560ti but I won't risk it.

Just sit back, relax, get a Controller, or use your KB/M setup and well, Enjoy the game and your glorious peripheral vision advantages.

Oops! Sorry, I had mistaken you for the OP. lol

Well, those 480s sure are still giving you the bang for your money. XD Keep us updated when you get those 680s setup! Wouldn't be so bad to hear your voice more. :P

I can understand THAT, but with pso2, I don't really see a big difference :'(

Also Neo, I am gonna rob your PC. But don't worry I will give it back sooner or later. Nice set up dood keep it up.

buy that and a PS3 controller for your PC, and you have yourself Dot Hack ;p

I like 3 monitor setups, but the bezels would bother me way to much, I would have to gut all 3 LCDs and build a new mount for them.

May be a while on that I'm wanting to put a pedestal under my case and put a few radiators in there for cooling the video cards, I would have to buy RADs, Water blocks, the 680s (unless I keep with EVGA and get the hydro copper series factory water cooled cards) fittings and a pump.

I need to loose the 480s like yesterday, they pull as much power at idle as the 680s do at stress....
same with temperatures, my 480s idle temperatures is what the 680s stress at.....

Slightly off-topic, but is it possible to SLI two different model cards? And even if it is, is there any real benefit to it? I just got my 680 and I'm running single card, but I have two more PCI 3 slots (just rebuilt my whole machine for PSO2) and was wondering this, since I've never done SLI due to not having enough PCI slots.

Apparently the answer to that is no, should've googled.

The ONLY exception to that rule is you can SLi a 9800 GTX+ with a GTS 250 as they are the same exact chip and pretty much the same PCB as long as they both have the same amount of V-RAM.

Theoretically, lets say power is $0.10 per KWH, and 240 hours (8hr/day) of full gpu/cpu load gaming drawing around 1500 watts, thats $36/mo. That may or may not be as much as you thought it would be.

I know what you mean. I have two 470s in my PC. They put out so much heat it's insane. You can feel the heat radiating from the case just when you walk by. lol. I don't plan on upgrading for a while though. I can't see the need for more power until we start getting shitty ports of games from the next generation of consoles.

Aye, that's my thing too. The surround setup is cool and all, but the bezels kind of kill it, especially when you have something in the foreground that's positioned so that it spans between two monitors. I'm gonna stick with a single monitor until they have good quality, affordable bezel-less monitors. Or they just make a single, curved monitor with the 5760x1080 or whatever resolution, which is possible with a flexible OLED screen.

Or...you can go even more hardcore and setup multi-projectors. ;P

Imagine playing on a huge curved projection screen the size of a wall. You'd never have to worry about bezels again.

I've never liked spanning games across multiple monitors. The bezels are just too irritating. If Alienware ever decides to sell the panoramic monitor, then we might be on to something.

That... actually would be amazing. Problems with projectors are:

1) Expensive for good, high-resolution ones.
2) Good screens for them are expensive, and I'm pretty sure you'd have to have a custom-made one for this purpose which would be even more so.
3) Gotta have the lights off and a heavy drape over the window.
4) While awesome for gaming, it'd be a bit of a pain for pretty much any other use.
